I'm getting this camera as my first DSLR and I'm very excited. I played with it a little at best buy, and I was wondering, is a way to shoot in automatic without the flash popping up?

@Gurflob as much as I know about this camera. no. but If it does pop the flash up then you probably needed it.

@Joelwww7 @ownd1000souls wow i posted that a long time ago, turn out if you go into P (program mode) its mostly automatic but you can change things like White balance and whether you want flash

this is a really dumb question im sure but is the Canon - EOS Digital Rebel XS the same thing as the eos rebel xs 1000d

Yes! they are the same. If I'm not mistaken XS is for US & Canada. 1000D for Asia.

nice photos :) just a tip you might find use full never center the subject, you wont to place it in the sides or corners ( but still in view ) this makes for a much more interesting photos :), gooood work (Y)

Yes, A camera dedicated for pictures only. I use my FLIP to take videos.
