  • I love you !!!

  • i realy enjoied fom the movie

    and you verry beautiful

  • I got my first bodhran for Christmas yesterday. I've never played drums so I am a total beginner - but in just a few minutes I was getting the hang of this! Of course, I was left in the dust by the end but I will practice, practice, practice. I can learn this! Thank you!

  • I am so glad I found your lessons. I played drums in school but haven't for a long time. I have gotten into Irish music the last couple years and I am planning on ordering my Bodhran this week.

  • Really love the lessons. Can you recommend any good songs or artists to play along to for a beginner ?

    Thanks again!

  • Cheers. Love the lessons!

  • Great lessons, thank you. Your rythms make playing much easier to learn without sounding like you just bought it ! ! Still got to see the following ones, thanks again x

  • do the rim shots eventually wear out the skin on the edge of the drum? It seems like it might cause holes to form there.

  • Thank you, from a New Zealander, who just picked up a bodhran less than a year ago with only one lesson by Albert Alfonzo. I love how you break it down, so I may learn a soild foundation habbit. I use the "top end" style of playing but your teaching works for me...thanks again.

  • Really love and appreciate these videos. My daughter, who moved from San Diego to Ireland, got me a bodhran for christmas. I've gotten to a (shaky) 100 bpm on this one, your ease at 140 leaves me slack-jawed!

  • I am a complete newbie and deeply grateful for your generosity giving me such brilliant, doable lessons on a new instrument.

  • OMG. I so want to get the hang of this. You are an amazing teacher. Thanks ...

  • I've been playing the bodhran now for the grand total of 4 days and finding your videos really helpfull!! :-)

  • I'm an experienced player of ten years plus, and have gigged all over Europe. I have never had any formal lessons but seems to have got by. these brilliant lesson by a sparkling performer have had the effect of dis-assembling the techniques I have used for greater scrutiny. It's made me understand how i get the sounds I do and made me a much better player - heartfelt thanks

  • MIchelle,

Thanks so much! I was always using the top of the drum to do the stick click, and i couldn't understand why it was so hard, and why I was always getting thrown off. I've been playing for about two months. This is sure to help me improve accenting the beat. Just a touch though, yes?

    Once again, thanks.

  • Michelle,

Thanks! Since I learned I have been using the top of the drum for the rim shot, and I was constantly wondering why it was so hard. But now I understand that it actually fits in with the regular hand motions when playing on the skin. Thanks a million! This will definitely help me stay in time better when I want to add a click.

  • Why is your car backwards? ;-)

  • your posts are really helpful.....thanks a million for putting in the work......but does doing rim shots damage the skin over time?

  • thanx for this help i'm not a person who learns well from books but your lessons help greatly thanQ

  • I'm loving this series of vids. It's so much better than learning out of a book. Thank you!

  • I just got a bodhran for my birthday and was looking at various videos. Yours are very easy to follow and understand. Not that I'm good at it yet, but you make it easy to follow. Thanks!

  • Thank You Thank You Thank You! I just got my bodhran and I'm going to the Market at Birka in Manchester New Hampshire on the last weekend of January. Now I will at least know how to look and sound like I know what I'm doing.

    THANK YOU!

  • that's amazing

before seeing this video, I did this exact rythm to help myself learn the down down up down up rythm

  • I didn'r really get the little pattern you demonstrated at the end, so I went to an 'Irish jig' post on Youtube (Morrison's, as it happens) and tried playing along, and suddenly it all fell into place! Thanks, Michelle!

  • hi

thanks for this and all your videos, very clear and usefull... cheers from Chile ;)

  • I've always had a hard time getting my rim-clicks to sound natural...I think this video will help. Thanks Michelle!

  • Excellent.. a neat lil pattern..thank you ..

  • Excellent videos. All of them.

  • Thank you, exellent lesson 5 star.

  • hi

    great vid!

i find myself missing a few beats every few measures--do you have any suggestions?

  • wow your very good.

and im learning ALOT of beats.

im 12 years old by the way

    thanks for the video

  • I especially like how you tell us when the foot taps. I've been playing music for over ten years now but still have problems with time signatures!

  • Phemoni ... click ... in al ... click ...

  • Beautifully explalined as ever ... especially covering up the accidentals! But my, you're working us hard :)

  • A real challenge...the single click was OK but the second needs a bit more attention. I'll let you know how it goes after a couple practices with the mother of all gig rthyms.

  • You are so cool . . .what can people use if they don't have one of these drums??

  • I use a softcover book when I don't have my drum, I do the rim shots on the binding. For a tipper I guess you could use a sharpie marker.

  • The side of your steering wheel in traffic jams always works for me!

  • I used a thick marker on a binder. It worked as far as getting basic rhythms and motions, but the bodhran and tipper will still feel much different once you get one.

  • I've just posted a video on How To Practice Bodhran Without A Bodhran and Make Your Own Tipper to get you started if you don't own a drum. Hope you find it helpful. You can find it in the video response section above or by visiting my channel. Thanks for inspiring me to make this video. Happy Drumming!

  • Great video Michelle. Love to see these other responses. All the best Dean

  • Awesome work,

    Tnx!

  • Thank you for day 2 Michelle, i wonder what you'll prepare for us tmrw. I was thinking about taking a video, where I would try the jig you tought us yeasterday but the 120+beats/min sounds still too bad :D

  • I have been struggling to get the hang of rim shots for quite some time, this is helping out a ton. Thanks so much! Love all your lessons.
