Sonic Heroes should have been on this list, it was a great game, but it got bad reviews because it was easy to accidentally fall off a platform cause of the sensitive controls.
technically XD wasn't the first release... as adventure was released for the dreamcast initially... same with 2 battle... but they're overlooked by some sonic fans wich is a travesty...

Sonic 06 is just the best Sonic game to date. I really found almost no glitches in it and the story (yes, even the Sonic-and-Elise-part!) was just awesome. The game was also very emotional and with 9 characters playable it has a huge variety of gameplay. GREAT GAME!
I love sonic unleashed on the Xbox 360!!! In my opinion, it was the best 3D sonic game, BUT when my brother was leaving for college he took the Xbox with him -:( I wanted to punch him soooo bad!!! I had to buy it on the PS2, and it's nowhere near as good as the Xbox 360/PS3 version, I miss my Xbox!
The ones about Sonic Rush Adventure, Sonic R and Shadow The Hedgehog were so true. The only thing I dislike about Sonic '06 is that it's a bit cheesy. Involving humans isn't overall bad, look at Shadow The Hedgehog, but it just felt odd...
I have Shadow the Hedgehog for Xbox and I found it pretty good. Lost Impact on Hero mode RAPED MY ASS because I couldn't find the last two fucking chaos blob things after searching for HALF A FUCKING HOUR.
IMO Sonic R was hated because everyone made the mistake of choosing Sonic on their first race, thus leaving a bad impression on the game for the rest of their lives.
I agree with all of them. The ones i agreed most were Sadx>sm64 Sonic R playing over riders and drift. And the one i agreed most was sonic 06. I rarely found any glitches. and soundtrack dont even make me get started. The controls were very easy and fast to get used to. And it even featured and awesome coop mode to play with friends. And Silver.
Sonic 06 was a great game but I want them to make a game called Sonic 06 (Complete) take out glitches, make silver a little faster, and not 2 much scripted, also maybe a couple of new stages
No I still think Sonic Labyrinth is the worst Sonic game, there is no reason at all for it to be marketed as a Sonc game and even if it wasn't it would still be one of the worst things on the Game Gear.

I had so much fun with Sonic Gen. Only bad thing about it was that it was very cheesy and glitchy. Otherwise I have some very fun memories playing it. However, Shadow the Hedgehog is a pile of shit.
Hmm, I'm surprised that you didn't put sonic heroes in this list. A lot of people criticize it (and other than it's sub-par camera and abundance of cheep deaths), I don't get why...
It has an amazing soundtrack, varied gameplay, great graphics, excellent level design, and innovative controls.
I think Sonic Heroes is worthy of being on this list.
@Shadsilvson11 Opinion aside SM64 managed to revolutionize 3D platforming which also gave way to Banjo Kazooie and was able to take everything from the 2D games and translate it to 3D very well.

Don't get me wrong SA is my fav 3D sonic game but saying SA > SM64 that's going overboard.
@DayLaMike No it didn't. I personally prefer Sonic Adventure to Super Mario 64 and I'm more of a Mario fan then I am a Sonic fan. Sonic Adventure is better than the classic Sonic games by far anyway.

@pkstarstorm1up In 1991 when sonic was created he had always been depicted as a fantasy character in a fantasy world. From the games to the Comics to the TV shows and Sonic OVA. In all of these media there were few to no humans not including Dr. Robotnik. Then Sonic Adventure comes out and Sonic is no longer in this setting and he is running around a city with barely any anthropomorphs and all humans as far as the eye could see. You don't think that confused a lot of Sonic fans in 1999?
In the Japanese manual Sonic has always lived in a world that is full of both Humans and Mobians. It doesn't matter if there are Humans in the series. He lives on a world that has both realistic and fantasy settings and it's better that way because that sets him apart from series about other Anthros like Star Fox and Banjo. Blame SOA for making the U.S backstory for Sonic so much different than the original Japanese's backstory. That doesn't matter. Unneeded doesn't mean we can't have it.

However in the jump to 3D where did all the Anthros go? Were they all just killed off in a furry genocide? Also I believe Sonic OVA to be an accurate depiction of his world according to the Japanese canon. Sonic Adventure looks nothing like that. It was clear as day that Sonic's earth was vastly different from our own with nothing realistic about it.
Not really. More anthro characters keep getting introduced so that means that there are more anthro characters. And no Sonic did live on a realistic fantasy world hybrid. There are City stages in the Genesis games. And no Sonic is not kin to Mario and Zelda because he's more story driven and is a cooler character. It's better the way it is. And yes they are fun to play as. If Sonic Team brings them into the games that means that they are part of the core gameplay, it's not up to the fans.
@DayLaMike Also Sonic Adventure is not only the greatest 3D Sonic game but also the greatest Sonic game ever made. @pkstarstorm1up By both canons Sonic is a far from realistic franchise. I would also be hard pressed to find any of those stages with their distinct looks and designs to be anywhere on this earth. There is nothing realistic about 2D sonic it should have stayed that way with Sonic Adventure. So I'm sure it still managed to cause some confusion in Japan as well. Sonic is a kin to Mario and Zelda because of his lack of realism which is why I used the reference to prove my point.
@pkstarstorm1up No it's not fun to play with characters that have nothing to do with the mainstyle of game play. Sonic's characters are the biggest reason people complained about the franchise and the biggest reason Sonic has been running solo his past few games. Speed and platforming is why Sonic got popular so they need to stick to their guns. If the characters don't conform to the gameplay they are not necessary. S3&K used the characters well which is how new characters should be handled.
The only reason the newer games have had only Sonic playable is because the retro fags wouldn't stop complaining about nothing. Sonic is better off being realistic but at the same time having a touch of fantasy to his world. Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Shadow, Silver, and Blaze are all very fun to play as and they need to be playable in the main storyline of a game again. The Retro fags just can't accept change in the series even though the change has been for the better. Look it's not fun to only play as Sonic and one of these days we'll be playing as Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Silver, Shadow, and Blaze again because they are awesome and add alot to replay value of the games. @DayLaMike Sure Big's fishing was stupid but Knuckles Treasure hunting was fun in Sonic Adventure (it was in Adventure 2 that it was annoying). Besides it's more fun to play as many different characters then it is to play as just Sonic or as just Sonic and Tails.

The Mario series and Zelda series are different because they have always been set in a fantasy world without hardly any realism. Ever since the first Sonic game according to the Japanese manuals Sonic has always lived on a world with both realistic and fantasy environments, the American manuals just confused people and whatever the American manuals said are non canon. And as for The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, SatAM, and Sonic Underground, those are only canonical to their own universes.
I liked STH. Kickass music, the Shadow mystery is solved, and its fast. The only problems I had was that the graphics were just a recycled Sonic Heroes. Decent game, but I hate it when developers just recycle the exact same thing
i agree shadow the hedgehog,sonic next gen,sonic rush adventure(i prefere the first sonic rush over this one but sonic rush adventure is still good),knuckles chaotix,sonic advance 2(my favorite one out of the sonic advance games is sonic advance 3 but sonic advance 2 is still good),sonic unleashed(i have the wii version and it's not so bad) are not as bad as people think

I'm kinda in the middle with 06. When I first played it, it was great. I loved it and everything about it. However, after unleashed came out and I went back to it., I realised how bad the gameplay was. The game was released too soon and the gameplay was so glitchy it was unbelievable. I like how in Sonic colours the gameplay just flows: Colours is THE best 3d sonic game :D
this is my idea of a perfect sonic game the originality of the genesis the open world maps like sonic next gen, the speed of sonic unleashed,and the ability to play as super sonic in regular level like the new sonic 4 but out of all those things id say it be great game and yes all those are great games i just havent played chaotix
Good video, but there's another game that gets way too much hate for what it is: Sonic and the Black Knight. I honestly don't see the problem. It has a good (great to me) story, fun gameplay and still kept the speed well enough. It also used old-world music in addition to the modern stuff they normally use. I have no idea why it's hated so much. Seriously, IGN, a 3.9?!

I agree with almost everything here except Knuckles chaotics. That game is a over rated pos if there every was one. But sonic 2006 was fucking great yet everone hated it. I mean its just sonic adventure with better graphics.
Also, I think somewhere on the line Sonic Chronicles should've been on there. Barely anyone pays attention to that game. I rated it 10 stars after I played it. It was a really really great game! It was my favorite game of all time! The storyine was great, the graphics were good, and the music wasn't annoying. Also, the choose-what-u-say feature was really handy if your a sonamy lover like me :D

Oh well, at least you didn't put Sonic and the Black Knight in here. (I actually thought that was worse than '06) If you have a Wii, be on the look out for Sonic Colors. It look quite promising, if not a bit on the easy side.

Advance 2, Rush Adventure and Sonic Adventure are anything but overrated - if anything, Sonic Adventure is the most overrated 3D Sonic. It had a lot of flaws people just gloss over and act as though every game should be exactly like it. I agree that Unleashed doesn't get the recognition it deserves, though I'm not sure it's completely underrated. A lot of people moan about the Werehog, but I think IGN are the only ones who flatout hated it.
My problem with Unleashed is that a lot of people just saw it as "half good", completely forgetting about the treasure hunting and fishing nonsense in the past games. Looking back, I think the Werehog is great compared to that stuff. And then you have the people who say it's too linear who miss the point entirely of the fact that it's half-racing. You make a good point about Shadow, too. Maybe it wasn't that good, but people act like it's horrible just because of the story and optional weapons.
As far as Shadow goes, apart from the story, I don't really see what was wrong with it. It wasn't amazing, but some of the concepts were pretty cool, and some of the missions were really fun.
I can sort of understand the hate for Sonic 2006 as the game in general was pretty bland in my eyes and the load times really didn't help. It did have its fun moments, but there were also a lot of automated areas during gameplay and it was pretty glitchy due to being unfinished. I just hate how people hold a grudge against the entire series just because of one or two games, and the fact that it spawned that stupid (and completely inaccurate) "cycle" image.
I dont think these games are exactly underrated. I think most of the crap we hear about these games is from crazy nintendo fans who cant admit that sega has made games that can compare to mario
shadow the hedgehog is my favorite sonic game and i agree it extremely underrated g4tv's x-play gave it a 1/5 and their main reason was because they thought the game was too short and Game Informer magazine gave it a low score as well for other reasons
Regarding titles like "underrated" and "overrated," each person is going to feel differently about each game. In other words, your list is only your opinion. I think most of these games deserved the bashing they have gotten (save for Rush Adventure and to a much lesser extent Sonic Unleashed) because the games have fundamental graphical and gameplay flaws that frustrate most non-Sonic fans who try these out. Sega has [generally] been off its game since the Dreamcast died.
to me every sonic game is underrated they never get the respect they deserve also I found riders and the other racing sonic games to be quite enjoyable its another game that takes getting used to to master it.

I don't like it when people treat Sonic ke it's a type of Genre. The game still keeps the speed and platforming elements but it just added Guns and more combat. Doesn't ruin the game.
Yeah Gamespot weren't very nice to it. But then again that review was from the same website that gave Castlevania 64 a better score than Super Castlevania 4.
OK I admit I hate Sonic Labyrinth. The only real reason this game made the list was mere filler. Now though that spot would go to either Sonic Chronicles or Sonic Riders Zero Gravity.

I agree with all of them. The ones i agreed most were Sadx>sm64 Sonic R playing over riders and drift. And the one i agreed most was sonic 06. I rarely found any glitches. and soundtrack dont even make me get started. The controls were very easy and fast to get used to. And it even featured and awesome coop mode to play with friends. And Silver.

I had so much fun with Sonic Gen. Only bad thing about it was that it was very cheesy and glitchy. Otherwise I have some very fun memories playing it. However, Shadow the Hedgehog is a pile of shit.

Hmm, I'm surprised that you didn't put sonic heroes in this list. A lot of people criticize it (and other than it's sub-par camera and abundance of cheep deaths), I don't get why...
It has an amazing soundtrack, varied gameplay, great graphics, excellent level design, and innovative controls.
I think Sonic Heroes is worthy of being on this list.

SA on the other hand manage to throw a curve ball from left field confusing most Sonic fans and bring almost nothing familiar with it from 2D to 3D. It also started the trend of irrelevant gameplay elements.
Don't get me wrong SA is my fav 3D sonic game but saying SA > SM64 that's going overboard.

@DayLaMike No it didn't. I personally prefer Sonic Adventure to Super Mario 64 and I'm more of a Mario fan then I am a Sonic fan. Sonic Adventure is better than the classic Sonic games by far anyway.

@pkstarstorm1up In 1991 when sonic was created he had always been depicted as a fantasy character in a fantasy world. From the games to the Comics to the TV shows and Sonic OVA. In all of these media there were few to no humans not including Dr. Robotnik. Then Sonic Adventure comes out and Sonic is no longer in this setting and he is running around a city with barely any anthropomorphs and all humans as far as the eye could see. You don't think that confused a lot of Sonic fans in 1999?

In the Japanese manual Sonic has always lived in a world that is full of both Humans and Mobians. It doesn't matter if there are Humans in the series. He lives on a world that has both realistic and fantasy settings and it's better that way because that sets him apart from series about other Anthros like Star Fox and Banjo. Blame SOA for making the U.S backstory for Sonic so much different than the original Japanese's backstory. That doesn't matter. Unneeded doesn't mean we can't have it.

However in the jump to 3D where did all the Anthros go? Were they all just killed off in a furry genocide? Also I believe Sonic OVA to be an accurate depiction of his world according to the Japanese canon. Sonic Adventure looks nothing like that. It was clear as day that Sonic's earth was vastly different from our own with nothing realistic about it.

Not really. More anthro characters keep getting introduced so that means that there are more anthro characters. And no Sonic did live on a realistic fantasy world hybrid. There are City stages in the Genesis games. And no Sonic is not kin to Mario and Zelda because he's more story driven and is a cooler character. It's better the way it is. And yes they are fun to play as. If Sonic Team brings them into the games that means that they are part of the core gameplay, it's not up to the fans.

@pkstarstorm1up By both canons Sonic is a far from realistic franchise. I would also be hard pressed to find any of those stages with their distinct looks and designs to be anywhere on this earth. There is nothing realistic about 2D sonic it should have stayed that way with Sonic Adventure. So I'm sure it still managed to cause some confusion in Japan as well. Sonic is a kin to Mario and Zelda because of his lack of realism which is why I used the reference to prove my point.

@pkstarstorm1up No it's not fun to play with characters that have nothing to do with the mainstyle of game play. Sonic's characters are the biggest reason people complained about the franchise and the biggest reason Sonic has been running solo his past few games. Speed and platforming is why Sonic got popular so they need to stick to their guns. If the characters don't conform to the gameplay they are not necessary. S3&K used the characters well which is how new characters should be handled.

The only reason the newer games have had only Sonic playable is because the retro fags wouldn't stop complaining about nothing. Sonic is better off being realistic but at the same time having a touch of fantasy to his world. Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Shadow, Silver, and Blaze are all very fun to play as and they need to be playable in the main storyline of a game again. The Retro fags just can't accept change in the series even though the change has been for the better. Look it's not fun to only play as Sonic and one of these days we'll be playing as Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Silver, Shadow, and Blaze again because they are awesome and add alot to replay value of the games. @DayLaMike Sure Big's fishing was stupid but Knuckles Treasure hunting was fun in Sonic Adventure (it was in Adventure 2 that it was annoying). Besides it's more fun to play as many different characters then it is to play as just Sonic or as just Sonic and Tails.

The Mario series and Zelda series are different because they have always been set in a fantasy world without hardly any realism. Ever since the first Sonic game according to the Japanese manuals Sonic has always lived on a world with both realistic and fantasy environments, the American manuals just confused people and whatever the American manuals said are non canon. And as for The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, SatAM, and Sonic Underground, those are only canonical to their own universes.

I'm kinda in the middle with 06. When I first played it, it was great. I loved it and everything about it. However, after unleashed came out and I went back to it., I realised how bad the gameplay was. The game was released too soon and the gameplay was so glitchy it was unbelievable. I like how in Sonic colours the gameplay just flows: Colours is THE best 3d sonic game :D

Good video, but there's another game that gets way too much hate for what it is: Sonic and the Black Knight. I honestly don't see the problem. It has a good (great to me) story, fun gameplay and still kept the speed well enough. It also used old-world music in addition to the modern stuff they normally use. I have no idea why it's hated so much. Seriously, IGN, a 3.9?!

Also, I think somewhere on the line Sonic Chronicles should've been on there. Barely anyone pays attention to that game. I rated it 10 stars after I played it. It was a really really great game! It was my favorite game of all time! The storyine was great, the graphics were good, and the music wasn't annoying. Also, the choose-what-u-say feature was really handy if your a sonamy lover like me :D

5: O.M.G I loved the Night Stages! I didn't like the day stages cause me and my brother were stuck on a Chun-Nan stage for 3 days!

DX was a GREAT game for me...
It may be the soundtrack that really got me into the game, but... Wow.
And Sonic 2 for the Advance was really fun, as well!
And Sonic 3D isn't bad either... Well, I own one of the Sega collections, so that might help with my opinion, because it's not like I only have the choice to play that game when I put the CD in, but...

To each his own I suppose. Though I simply can't understand how you can like any part of Sonic '06, let alone rank it #1 on this list. That game was simply an abomination. Oh well, at least you didn't put Sonic and the Black Knight in here. (I actually thought that was worse than '06) If you have a Wii, be on the look out for Sonic Colors. It look quite promising, if not a bit on the easy side.

- Less voice acting (Trust me, it's a good thing)
- No stupid, tedious hub world.
There's a reason almost all reviews gave the Wii/PS2 versions higher scores than the 360/PS3 versions.

Actually here are why I think the PS3/360 version is better.
- More levels
- Better balance of Sonic/Werehog Levels (the Wii/PS2 version had too much Werehog)
- More fun Sonic levels
- Werehog was also better
- Hub world is still better than the boring point and click villages

Advance 2, Rush Adventure and Sonic Adventure are anything but overrated - if anything, Sonic Adventure is the most overrated 3D Sonic. It had a lot of flaws people just gloss over and act as though every game should be exactly like it. I agree that Unleashed doesn't get the recognition it deserves, though I'm not sure it's completely underrated. A lot of people moan about the Werehog, but I think IGN are the only ones who flatout hated it.

My problem with Unleashed is that a lot of people just saw it as "half good", completely forgetting about the treasure hunting and fishing nonsense in the past games. Looking back, I think the Werehog is great compared to that stuff. And then you have the people who say it's too linear who miss the point entirely of the fact that it's half-racing. You make a good point about Shadow, too. Maybe it wasn't that good, but people act like it's horrible just because of the story and optional weapons.

As far as Shadow goes, apart from the story, I don't really see what was wrong with it. It wasn't amazing, but some of the concepts were pretty cool, and some of the missions were really fun.

I can sort of understand the hate for Sonic 2006 as the game in general was pretty bland in my eyes and the load times really didn't help. It did have its fun moments, but there were also a lot of automated areas during gameplay and it was pretty glitchy due to being unfinished. I just hate how people hold a grudge against the entire series just because of one or two games, and the fact that it spawned that stupid (and completely inaccurate) "cycle" image.
Also YouTube's character limit sucks.

I dont think these games are exactly underrated. I think most of the crap we hear about these games is from crazy nintendo fans who cant admit that sega has made games that can compare to mario

shadow the hedgehog is my favorite sonic game and i agree it extremely underrated g4tv's x-play gave it a 1/5 and their main reason was because they thought the game was too short and Game Informer magazine gave it a low score as well for other reasons

Regarding titles like "underrated" and "overrated," each person is going to feel differently about each game. In other words, your list is only your opinion. I think most of these games deserved the bashing they have gotten (save for Rush Adventure and to a much lesser extent Sonic Unleashed) because the games have fundamental graphical and gameplay flaws that frustrate most non-Sonic fans who try these out. Sega has [generally] been off its game since the Dreamcast died.

to me every sonic game is underrated they never get the respect they deserve also I found riders and the other racing sonic games to be quite enjoyable its another game that takes getting used to to master it.

I do like the Shadow the Hedgehog game but seriously why make it something to do with sonic? Some emo with guns? Sonic is suppose to be a family game not COD or GTA! Seriously emo people and guns do not fit into family games! GameSpot gave this game a poor rating of 4.7/10

I don't like it when people treat Sonic ke it's a type of Genre. The game still keeps the speed and platforming elements but it just added Guns and more combat. Doesn't ruin the game.
Yeah Gamespot weren't very nice to it. But then again that review was from the same website that gave Castlevania 64 a better score than Super Castlevania 4.

Sorry, but Sonic Labirynth, Sonic R and Sonic 3D Blast aren't underrated. They're truly the worst Sonic Games. =P
I couldn't agree more with the fact that Sonic Unleashed, Sonic '06 and Shadow the Hedgehog are TERRIBLY underrated, especially Sonic '06.

OK I admit I hate Sonic Labyrinth. The only real reason this game made the list was mere filler. Now though that spot would go to either Sonic Chronicles or Sonic Riders Zero Gravity.
