Hi there Ritwika. That was a very good presentation. Can you please tell me the reason why you recorded the karaoke track from the MP3 player into a mono track in the first place. And what is it exactly that you used Audacity for.
I really think if you are a recording novice this video tutorial is absolutely exceptional. It is extremely informative in a wonderfully uncomplicated and jargon free manner. It is also very honest and really does offer good advice on the minimum requirements. Best of all the young lady comunicates very well just how within reach a satisfying little home set up can be. I would gladly use this as a teaching aid and think it would hopfully inspire young people. All your videos are superb.
Great video well presented and very informative. Can you give me a list of your equipment model #'s etc. I'll be sure to mention you referred me. Thanks
@supportren could I use Sennheiser HD 202 II Professional Headphones they have great reviews and its in my price range. if these arent good do you have any others seggestions besides the sony ones? thank you!
@Metal2314 SM58 is a terrific mic. I have a similar one Shure Beta 58A which i use exclusively for stage performance. I am not so sure if you can use your PC as a mixer and recorder as inbuilt sound cards for most PCs are not designed to record sound, so they are not very best quality. Instead of spending few hundred dollars to buy a new better sound card, buy a good quality external recorder like Sony PCM-M10 or Zoom H4n. That will give you great sound recording and portability.
@supportren You mentioned getting the attention of major label like Capitol Records, Epic Records, Columbia Records, CBS Records, or even Universal/Motown Records or Interscope Records, etc! Think YouTube will help or is it the best way to get discovered? You could one day record for those major record labels(or an indie label)
sweet little vid baby. nice vioce too. oh BTW guys she is direct recording to a camcorder. so she is not putting a pro track its jsut s tutorial. just listen to what she says. if you get something outof it good. if not well better luck next vid. she did teach you a few good things if you listened. think before you post. she did an great job. and she is gorgious.
@trigapula And why MXL is so bad? Do you record using Neumann? What is wrong with this shock mount? Just trying to understand what you are trying to say, or you just wanted to type in some words?
@trigapula Well many YouTube viewers will call you a pitiful narcissist snob for your decision as no one will be able to see what shock mount you use at your home recording studio. So you can see it is meaningless to post non value added comments. Comment only if you have something important to tell from which others can learn.
its funny , you are talking about good recording while at the same time your audio on the camera of you speaking is horrible , it was hard for me to listing to you talk !
okay.... so i record my music the same way, through audacity; if you check my channel you will know im not begginer at this either, recently i picked up a Condencer mic and a mixing board. yet i cant get the sounds i want from it, i bought the mic to record vocals to songs.. My Rig: Apex435 to Behringer HENYX 802 straight to Audacity on my computer. my computer is kind of loud so it picks up the ambiant noises in the room, anything i can to do record my songs professionaly with my set up?
@SethMcFarlanemusic Use my setup! Use a high quality portable recorder like PCMD50 which makes no noise. Once the recording is over, edit the audio file in your PC using Audacity. I have a Presonus Firestudio Project, but I am fed up with DAW 1394 driver issue, latency, pops and clicks and what not. Unless you have a dedicated audio workstation (which I don't), you will be better off with my setup.
@supportren Ever used mics like Samson, Audix, Sennheiser, AKG, Behringer, Electro-Voice, Shure, Audio-Technica? When I record, I use Samson Mics(including G-Track)and I'm learning how to Compress my vocals into the Motown(or any)karaoke tracks(original Motown tracks, that is)Interesting video, btw! You've got a great voice! And a nice home recording studio!
@SethMcFarlanemusic Another tip: Behringer blows.... I know its cheap and nice when you start out but in the audio engineering/gear world cheaper usually always means worse....start saving cuz wants you start buyin you wont stop!
@JoeSRH trust me i know berhinger sucks. im a tc helicon guy. i have a harmony Gxt XD i love it... but my mixing board i JUST figured out how to add effects to it simply through the mixer :P now it sounds even better
@SethMcFarlanemusic I also have a TC Helicon vocal chorus machine. It is nice but kind of complex to program. By the way, I do not think Behringer is inferior. Sometime if the price is less, people equate it to poor quality.
What type of software did you use to record this video? I love the visual effects before and during the video. Also what type of video recording equipment did you use?
Would a Boss BR-600 8 track be as good at recording a vocal with the Shure Beta 58a MIC? Also will the Audacity freeware be able to cope with the sounds of 2 synthesizers, a drum machine & a vocal all at once? I will be using the Behringer 1202FX mixer to connect everything before connecting to the Boss BR-600 to record each track. That way I'll also have access to 64 virtual tracks to find the best version before saving.
I'm new to this recording process & use your informative videos.
@funkb0x Boss is a 44 KHz sampling recorder, so it is not as high quality as a PCM-D50. However, it has 8 channels. If you need a portable 8 channel CD quality recorder, then this will be a good choice. Shure Beta should work with this. However if quality if more important than portability then I will suggest you to look at multi channel computer audio interfaces. I do not quite get that 64 channel part. If you use a mixer then you can only record a stereo mix from the mixer in the Boss.
@supportren If I replace the Behringer 1202fx & Boss BR-600 with the Behringer Xenyx 1222FX Premium Mixer with built in audio interface going to my PC. Would I need better software than Audacity?
Thankyou so much for your help.
My objective is to record myself playing 2 synths + vocal. I'm not looking for perfection but farely decent quality on a low budget would be great. I also found some Sony MDR-7506 headphones on Ebay for £40. Would they be useful?
@funkb0x I have not used that mixer so I do not know the details. I use a PreSonus Firestudio Project, it has 8 low noise high quality XLR inputs and connects with computer through Firewire, which is better than USB as USB consumes more CPU power. Firestudio came with Cubase so I do not have to use Audacity. I use it with a Intel duo core Tablet PC. There are several such high quality audio interface available from various vendors, check 100 db SN before buying. Hope this helps.
@farria25 I have provided all the details of my setup in this tutorial, you just have to watch it till it ends :-)
No this is not a USB mixer as I prefer to use a recorder instead of a computer to record my audio to keep the setup simple and portable. I have a Presonus Firestudio Project USB interface with 8 input channels, but I really like the simplicity of this setup for this particular application.
@CastleRecordz I am sorry to hear that, sound booth is good, I wish I also have one. Listen to your voice only track. If it sounds bad, then replace your microphone, cable and preamp. Also check your equalization setting in DAW. Try rolling off low frequency and slightly boost frequencies around 3000 Hz. Hope this helps.
@supportren Thanks so very much for your reply. Again, what is a DAW in order to check equalization? I have a preception 200 (AKG) mic and it's supposed to be great quality. My preamp is an audio box which I hear is also good. My mixer is quite old though, and cables may not be the best.
@CastleRecordz DAW is the software like Audacity, Protools, Cubase, FL Studio etc. which you may be using to mix the recorded sound. Why don't you take that mixer out and directly record your Mic and see if you get good quality?
@supportren Hi. Thanks for that. Yes, I am using FL Studio 9 for beat production and teaching myself to record audio in there now. I usually used adobe for vocals.
Ok, did some research and made some discoveries. Taking the mic from the old beringer mixer made the difference, only thing is, I can only input the mic into one channel on the preamp so when I record it's only in one channel and comes out on the left speaker. I have to copy and paste, is there something I can do about that?
@CastleRecordz If you use audacity, then you can follow my way of splitting the stereo track to extract mono voice track and then mix with rest of the stereo tracks. See the tutorial at 13:50

Your kit is very expensive for folk who make music as a hobby, but you do give great cheaper alternatives.
