How do you create a surround sound effect as in having one instrument coming out of your last speaker another one coming out your right speaker I been playing with my new toy here and having a difficult time with it. I've been reading the literature and the owners manual. I would appreciate any help you could give me.
@TerryBarkes ....select your track and hold down fader/pan button at same time, it will bring up a new screen use your arrow buttons to select on lcd screen ,jog wheel will controll where you want the sound to go on your monitors . i hope this helps. the manual sucks !
@Archeon666 did you premaster, set the outpoint and record it to master channel? to send it to usb you need to transfer the track file to the FAT partition first
Does anyone know the how the sound quality differs from these units compared to computer based program such as Protools? Is there a noticable difference? I only ask because the sampling rate is a little lower on these machines. But, I still have my cassette machines and am happy to use it, though I want to get into the digital realm. I have used Protool, but don't like mixing with a mouse (it is time consuming) and would rather use faders.
Anyway, the sound quality is good, the sampling rate is at 44.1 but don't forget that you can always change that if you export the tracks into a program like Pro Tools, Cubase, Sonar etc
friend recorded my band, I made a payment on a DVD that tascam 2488 dvd in the talks and put the music on cd longer even the dvd cd ... it does not have any way to over ride this work to put on cd? Forgive my English
When you work with one of these all in one units you sacrifice usability for portability. You do all your editing on that 4 x 4 screen. There are menus to page through just to get the most basic editing done.
IMHO, you'd be better off with a decent interface and a good laptop with an external hard drive. If you are only recording yourself, you only need 1 or 2 inputs. Otherwise there are plenty of multi input interfaces. Editing in a comp is much easier.+tons of free/legal plugins fx and synth
I use one of these for all my demo recording - check out my youtube channel. And yes, it does have a vocal compressor but I usually use a Focusrite optical compressor.
ive got a tascam414mk11 tape type,,4track,,do you if these have phantom power as i cant get condencer mic to work,,if not what do i need to get mic to work,,thanks

Right! I hate mixing in Pro Tools.

is the dynamic button on the stereo. the same as a compressor? does it have a vocal compressor?

Micing "drums" with one track? No, sir.
oipthestampede 3 years ago
that's what some bands did in the late 60's and even now it doesn't sound to bad... Pink FLoyd for example, with one bog mike over the drum kit
mouloudo 3 years ago
I listen to metal mostly and every metal recordist I've ever spoken to agrees you need at least a mic for the kick drum alone.
oipthestampede 3 years ago
if you play metal you're totally right :-)
for a basic demo or pop"ish" songs it's ok
mouloudo 3 years ago
Just run another mixer for your drums and into the 2488 2 tracks for stereo.
