  • after that i wouldnt drive for a long long time.

  • man-up to a 5b/t!

  • sweet video. im going to run my vorza from borego springs to ranchita, down the grape vine and out throuh the wash to salton city and back through to ocotillo wells. any one want to join in?

  • Now with cellphone technology Imagine having a long distance race with R/C cars!?! having a first person view and racing the R/C Car for 100's of miles?! that would be epic! unless you flipped it 70 miles out.....

  • Is that an ss or 2.0. And what mods does it have

  • @dean0681 hahahha - look at the date when the video was posted! You don't have a place to run a 120 miles in the UK! In 2007 you where not even thinking about a Baja, you where playing with your 1/32 scale desk top R/C. You've been on here since 2006 and no video's... "THICK"... hmmmm Swindon in the house - go outside and film something or you affraid to pop up your rainbow umbrella? Put those old Pigtown Flig records back on.

Hey, thanks for watching and posting!

  • 5b FTW. Got my self a 5b ss because of this.

  • Why???

  • Freakin sweet dude :D

  • how many gallons of fuel did you guys use for this? awsome video by the way. you did what a lot have been thinking of doing but never got around to. "me included"

  • That's sweet that goes to show you if it made it through that it's good for life great vid bro you must have been tired but looked like alot of fun good job bro

  • omg just six time new fuel my nitro rc ride 90km/h and just in 10min i can stop for new fuel

  • it's funny to see such a convoy through the desert, and a small rc car leading the way

  • Got to admit this is pretty impressive

  • hèh_åNYÕnÊ_wÁñnã_chÄt_wïth_më_I_fëÈl_sÔ_lonÊlY_toDÀY≡

  • Q. what would happen if the baja stops and the cart doesnt,,,,,,,,,

    A. you will have a new puzzle game,,,,,

  • great video, it shows that if you buy a baja you'd be buying a good and long lasting product.

  • @2strokesmokin I´d shut up if I were you, as you have uploaded no videos and have little to contribute

  • nice :D

  • @2smokestrokin Nothing better to do... how bought when you are getting paid... yep NOTHING BETTER!!!

No, I do not need a new hobby, I currently have too many! The Toyota Land Cruiser, motorcycles, bicycles is enough... R/C is the work.

  • @GCRad1 have u tried rc airplanes

  • @2smokestrokin no one is forcing the hobby onto you, if you dont like it dont watch the video you child

  • @2smokestrokin lol you were obviously searching youtube for hpi baja you moron

  • @2smokestrokin can't spell drive? Moron.

  • @2smokestrokin It ain't a toy man. it burns gas, for one thing, and for another, it can do 40 real mph. Thats 200 mph for its size (1/5 scale)

  • what about the fuel? did it run that far with a single tank? :O

  • @X750Fnor they had 6 fuel/pit stops for fuel, it says that at the end of the video if you watched that far lol. They run about 45 minutes to 1 hour on a tank.

  • Good work

  • longest lasting 2 stroke ever made...

  • wow poor engine full throttle all the time in the deessert heat..

  • 6 times so one tank got 20 miles wtf no way "lies"

  • @dhudson369 Actually if you refuel 6 times, that is a total of 7 tanks (you start with a full tank). 120 miles in 17 miles per tank. For the baja's 2 stroke engine, that's reasonable.

  • That was cool I dud the same path in my dirtbike a couple years ago

  • how many times did you have to syop and refuel the 5b

  • @mudrider95 6 times and they only used 1.1 gallons of gas so the mpg was 100.8 i think

  • you know what woulda been funny? if a graboide came out of the ground like in the movie "tremores" and swallowed the baja up!

  • HPI should make a diesel version of the buggy that would be sweet lol

  • @Dieselboy805

    HAHA WTF, biodiesel!

  • Did it run flat out the whole way? doesn't look as if it was going very fast in places

  • you crazy man

  • now thats a realy good broken in motor

  • Great driving!

  • it looks like they are driving a pimped out golf buggy

  • Even though im a Baja owner, Im amazed that motor didn't over heat in that desert for that long of running. Did you even have any kinda filters for the pullstart/crankcase?

  • Comment removed

  • it looks like a GAY police chase

  • and this is why HPI are the best ^^, got 3 form HPI drift stage D, Savage XL 5.9 and this thing can take some hammer, and just got myself a Baja 5b ss

  • witch one do u think is better 5b or 5t baja

  • @ballhawk210 Thats personal preference for the most part. The 5T handles crashes better due to the body and lands on its wheels more, the 5b flys better due to lack of a body. Everything else is subjectible

  • how many times you fill up?

  • wow goes to show how well these bigboys toys are made i got one and i love it !! when i bought one of these it changed the game in the way of ,,,,,,,, u still just a kid when it comes to toys what ever age u r .. hell yer

  • where there any mods to the 5b before or during the video besides battery changes

  • @sonicboomracing - here is the whole story: hpiracing [dot] com/news/2007022101/ copy paste link.

  • @sonicboomracing Back in Jan/2007 There was not much for mod's on the market and with this being a HPI Long Distance test, we wanted it very stock to show durability.

  • hey do the baja 1000 with the baja 5b lol

  • So, there is no way the stock battery could have lasted that long, did you guys have charged replacements on hand? How often did you have to clean/replace the air filter? I love my 5T, but I still have a hard time a Baja did this

  • That's pretty good fuel economy, actually.

  • im sure barbie was thrilled to arive on time..

  • WOW @ 20 miles per tank. Things a beast.

  • the way i figure it, you should have gotton a little over 154.6 MPG as long as the fuel tank is the stock 750cc size. but i wish all cars got that good of gass milage lol.....

  • That was awesome! great gas mileage too! was this buggie stock, if not, what mods were done to it?

  • how much money did all that gas cost?also how many times did you have to refill?

    thanks

  • i hope hpi payed you :)

  • how long did it take to follow that?

  • Great vid, well done lads.I didnt think it would last that long.

  • they should have done the 5t aswell to see which was better

  • @R3dDi3se1 they didnt have the 5t back then

  • @R3dDi3se1

Uh, this was done back in 2007, the 5T didn't exist at the time

  • Very cool! This is sicker than life :-)

  • Lol it goes faster than the dam rhino

  • awesome

  • lol

  • them little weedeater motors just run forever dont they

  • OMG, that's amazing!! Hats off to all those who took part in this mission:)

  • wat parts broke and wore out?

  • Shoulda put a little solar panel on the spoiler 2 juice your RX....They should make this a real event for hardcore RCers, Baja scale 1000!

  • thats wild, wounder if there be a new baja race started all 5b lol,how many time u had to stop and fill up and change the batterys in the remote lol

  • Read the "MORE INFO" over on the right and with link to the full-story. Basically 6-tanks of fuel. We carried WAY TOO MUCH as we did not have a real idea how much it would take, so we took "enough!" hehehehe

Battery changes - can't remember off hand...

  • @GCRad1 wow, you really got 1 hour of runtime per tank? going full out?

  • @999benhonda

Just like a full sized car, the more stable your throttle usage, the better fuel economy

  • did the engine over heat at all?

  • The engine's cooling system should be able to support it running almost indefinitely.

If your engine runs too hot, either your cooling fins are blocked (cut grass anyone?) or you might be running your engine too lean. Check for cooling blockages, and tune your engine to be a little bit more rich.

  • Was this done all in one day? did you take all backroads?

  • Done all in 1-Day:

    RUN TIME: 5:59 Hours/Mins

  • you had to stop it to give it some gas rite?

  • i love this video i want to do this

  • did u flip over even once?

  • lol i think it was burning hot

  • HPI HPI HPI HELLS YA

  • How much does it cost?

  • 1,000 dollars to 1,200 dollars, its worth the money

  • 1.5k

  • fuck thats a long way to run a weadwacker engine so how many times did you change tiers and was the engine ok arfter 120miles did you have to make any repears along the way how long did it take to do the 120 miles

  • they were probaly burning hot after 120 miles

  • how many times did they roll it wen they were in the rocky sections?

  • congratulations very nice video...i've got one baja 5 days ago and i'will start tuning it up....

  • We got roughly 20-miles per tank. 120-miles divided by six tanks of fuel = 20-miles per tank.

  • @GCRad1 .. when you finished one tank , let you cool the engine down ?

  • fuck revo's and 1 baja tank will not get you 100 miles you fucking retard

  • does the engine dosent over heat?

  • Pretty awesome road test

  • Comment removed

  • you much b bonker doing that lol

  • thats a lot of mpg right there lol

  • not really 1 gallon usually give's about 100 miles

  • to true

  • to anyone who reads my comment read closely i said 1 gallon not 1 tank

  • strap 2 to your feet and you could save some real gas money

  • if u have about 1.7k to spend on roller sk8s lol

  • @priegelienie Hmm, so you'r saying it's easy to control transmitters in both hands the same time? i dont think so.

  • @priegelienie how can you opperate 2 baja's wit 2 hands?

  • @viss3n it was a joke holy shit

  • It was also done in late January, so it could still be cooler out and would lessen the chance of overheating. HPI needs to do this with the 5T. That my have a higher overheating chance because of the truck body, but just cut a hole in the window and I think it'd be fine.

  • traxxas doesnt have much agaist this...

  • Nah, but their best shot would be the new revo 3.3

  • must be after market fuel tank and engine u need tones of air flo it would off need a inbuild cooler so it didnt over heat and turn off.

  • FUKIN AWSOME.........I also did somethin like dis, but just with some friends in th UAE dessert and fr about 2 hours, i dont know how far but we were at near full throtlle the whole time and kept up with the baja 5T using a toyota landcruiser.........sooo much fun

  • Looks like a time. That's awesome.

  • I suppose its getting a lot of air flow past it though isnt it

  • suprised it didnt over heat or like melt a few parts

  • omfg... is impossible.. wow...

  • WOW,never seen dat before but its cool

  • Comment removed

  • Hey man, just a question, how do you compare this to the nitro MGT 8.0? Maintenace wise, is it easy to repair this? or replace if theres something thats broken? for instance, engine, carburetor, muffler, pistons, etc...? easier to repair than nitro trucks? did you ever had any problems with yours? if you just run it on-road... how often do you replace the spark plug usually? Thanks a lot bro! i hope you'd reply coz im really looking forward on getting one... nice video! =D

  • meitnence:in my experence the 5b is alot easer to take care of. its bigger so that may be a plus. not sure on the spark plug.8.0 $550 5b $800-$1200

    is that helps

  • fg better get fu2k3d i owned one and because the engine is only held in at the bottom the top vibrates soo much everything comes loose thats why you just cant beat a baja prove me wrong !!

  • The FG Marder is even better.

    German engineering,what can I say...

  • "FG even Better" what did they do, 121-miles? There is always better, but is better always better? Better have a badder wallet with bigger dead presidents... and then...

  • excatly hpi does make the best 1/8th off road truck EVER

  • yes they do but this isn't 1/8th scale dude it's a 1/5th scale

  • im 100% awarre of that

  • fg marder suck balls.

  • Ive been eyeing one of these for so long. *sigh* maybe one day I can afford one =)

It sounds damn cool too heh

  • anyone thinking about buying a baja 5b , or is just looking into upgrading it whether that be getting that 30.5 cc engine or that exhaust pipe what ever it is why don't you PM me the question and i'd be happy to answer within 16 hours. just click my name

    "FirstBajaKid"

this RC car is just an amazing piece of machinery hey you don't see nitros going in the dessert hmmm i wonder why

  • Top speed is not what it is about, the minit would not make it 20 miles with out over heating.

  • hey so whats the top speed on that thing dosen't look more than 50???cus little mini t does 63+ and it's a fraction of the price compared to that little dune buggy.

  • it is not for speed

  • i have a mini-t and i would gladly give it up and all my other rc cars for one of these

  • i am gonna do same thing with my hpi firestorm but throu the forest and only about 20 miles

  • cool man we have done cross country flights in RC planes ... great vid

  • is the baja really worth about $1.200? oh and the jato would shit itself once it saw this. i only got a revo 3.3 but its ok

  • haha dude the baja is awesome

  • jato?? a jato would shit itself when it sees the journey ahead

  • I second that.

  • nice one guys, ive always wanted to do that wit a jato 3.3

  • i have the mgt 8.0 and ive often wanted to drive it down the road from a car. good one fellas

  • i will buy baja after weeks baja 5b wish me luck

  • one of the most funniest video i have ever seen!

  • i wonder if a savage x can do it lol

  • yh ur probily fill up every 10 secounds lol

  • wow!! thats insane!!

  • Crazy vid!!! Did it REALLY do 130 miles?

So how was it when you inspected it at the end of the trip, was there anything broken, trashed or something? Amazing it only had to do 6 refuels. Did you use a bigger tank?

  • the car was probably going about 30-40 MPH. each tank lats approx 40 mins. do the math

  • i dream about having a HPI BAJA 5B. Every time i go to my local hobby shop i sit and look at the HPI BAJA 5B and dream i had it.

  • hahahah one day mate u might get it lol

  • hey guys you are crazy!

    but a perfect video!

    ;)

  • THANKS!! We like crazy!!!

  • sikkkkness! My Rustler VXL would overheat, melt every part in its plastic body, activate thermal shutdown, and then my LiPo battery would explode! It would be a lot faster than the 5B though :P

  • thats amazing the engine must be stuffed. i'm thinking of getting a big rc but i don't know weather to get a 5b or 2 1/8 monster trucks.but i think i shoul get a 5b because it the best

  • i knwo that this comment is months old but i just wanted to say for other people buying a baja 5b, i ahve one and they said 6 fuel stop...6 tanks.... iv put more then 6 tanks through mine and mines still good, and iv been driving it harder then they have

  • wow how much gas u use on the baja buggy alone???

  • That is just NUTS! love it. I don't think my Revo could do that lol.

  • i want a baja but cant decided bewteen baja 5b or the baja 5b ss is it very hard to build?

  • Get yourself the SS kit, that way you know how to fix it if you ever need to. All you'll need is a radio system and some time. If you can follow directions it shouldn't be too hard.

  • that would be so cool to drive

  • lol thats sick i couldnt do that wit my himoto

  • You got me sold.Iam getting me one.

  • I'm thinking of getting a new rc car

    I love the baja 5b.

The thing is how do you take the thing to

the beach and places you can't get to with a car?

How does it drive and how does it compare to nitro.

And if I buy it what do I need to modify.

  • Like us, put it on the back of a Rhino or even a motorcycle - or - just drive it into where you are trying to get to. We do a lot of hike'n'drive's with the R/C's. It will run for 45min on a tank of gas so you can go a ways! It drives awesome - you can see the weight of the car working! Nitro, while quick and fast, needs constant attention. This thing, drive it, park it, drive it some more, park it, drive it some more! What to modify? YOUR DRIVING AREA!!! More space!!! Throw a tuned pipe on it!
