  • Hey Flush, I only know the basics of the Qliance clinics. From what I know you still need catastrophic insurance, but maybe it's still cheaper with them if you have to see them once a week as an example. They are in a few states now so you might ask if they are near you.

How I understand tort reform is that it's mainly a state issue. You have federal and state - so if the federal government has tort reform states can lose some rights. So it's complex but really needs to be done in my opinion.

  • My take on most of the health bill issues is that there are things that led to why costs are so high. I think if those things could be understood and addressed it's better in the long run.

It's like if you have cuts on your feet, what led to getting the cuts? Maybe there's glass on the carpet, but the health bill sort of says - let's replace the whole floor. But cutting the carpet out and revealing the nice wood slats might do the trick. And it would save tons of money. If that makes sense.

  • Hey Flush, I don't know where you live but in Seattle they have these clinicks called Qliance. They charge a flat monthly rate like a gym membership for unlimited primary care. I think it's between 45-70 dollars a month or something like that. I'd be interested to know what you think of that.

Also what do you think of opening up insurance competition across state lines and tort reform. It seems there are solutions out there that would make it cheaper for people to get insurance.

  • That flat monthly rate idea that those clinics there are doing sounds like a pretty good idea, but what about medication and if you need a doctor that specializes like a rheumatologist. if the corporate insurances offer something like these ideas there might be something that could work, but I doubt they will. I feel that as long as corporations have control over the health care industry, it will always be run like a car dealership sell you what you dont need and hide what you do need

  • here in cali once I turned 18 I qualified for medi-cal because I was disabled and unable to work and while you still have to fight with them sometimes, it's never been as bad as when i was on commercial insurance when I was a kid. with medi-cal I have to fight to get my treatment right here and there every few months or so, but when I was a kid we had to fight every day. I say if we do away with this phoney drug war than we'd have a lot more money to put into a health care program

  • anyway thanks for the informed comment yes I do think that opening up competition across state borders would be a good thing. I'm not sure how I feel about tort reform. While I'm tired of sue happy people and people who think everyone owes them, it seems like the corporations might be able to manipulate these reforms to make it hard to sue for legitimate reasons. so I don't know I like the idea because I hear someone sued a restaurant 4 dropping a ketchup bottle on his own foot i get so mad

  • Not neccessarily a long term illness but I was in a car wreck and sustained a large head injury with compiled roughly $4000 in medical bills just for one morning in the hospital. I currently have to pay out of pocket due to the fact that my health insurance denied it since I was a passenger and not at fault. They believed that the drivers insurance should cover it. Neither did. A mild case but there are plenty of others much worse.

  • that's what they do, they give you the run around and pass you back and forth until it's too late or you give up. sorry to hear that this has happened to you.

  • Thanks, and its starting to work out actually. I hired a lawyer (one who used to work for insurance companies so he knows how they work on a legal basis) and I'm getting it paid for eventually.

  • I think everybody should watch Michael Moore's SiCKO if they haven't already.

  • It's not just insurance companies but the Pharmacy industry is to blame as well. They make medications that will suppress the symptoms, not cure the problem. They have a cure for cancer and many other things but if they cure people they can't make any money.

  • I have a stress fracture from playing baseball in my LPars 5 (lower spine) and from my insurance company they paid for all my doctors visits, all my x-rays and 6 weeks of physical therapy

  • yeah that sounds about right. they'll pay to fix something thats broken cause they know that once the 6 weeks is over it's done. what I'm talking about is something long term like for years

but it's nice to hear that you had a good experience!

  • It sort of is long term because I have to go in every 6 months for x-rays and i have to go in every 3 months for doctor visits for it.

  • oh ok. well I'm glad to hear you're getting proper treatment. and aren't being hassled to pay bills you don't owe

  • f*ck the system!

  • Dog clippers are only $10 or so... I thought about getting them sometime. Currently I just use some little crotch trimmer... it works fine, but not great.

I have nothing good to say about insurance companies. Currently I don't have any insurance... went to the ER last week... I'm expecting a $3000 bill. Before I got laid off from my career of 10 years... It was a decent job and I paid for "good" insurance (for a little while) and I still couldn't afford to take care of myself.

  • This is what's got me so damn frustrated with the conspiracy theorists. All the bitching about global enslavement through the monetary system, but yet these hypocrites now defend that goddam insurance companies by rejecting single payer healthcare. Insurance companies are scum and need not exist in the world of health! They benefit nobody but the stock holders. They never have, and never will care about anyone's health, ever, ever, ever, ever, fucking ever!

  • awesome video and lol the intro that happens to my camera to
