all one has to do to stop that is move in too close while hes turning. Thats it, then he has no room to spin kick and is most likely going to fall on his face.
@Vlad2TKD You don't want to block a kick like that with your hands or arms. It will break them... But sometimes it's feasible to interrupt the motion by closing the distance and grabbing them; or getting out of the way.
@FinalFan0 Man, watch K1 fights... They still block these strongass kicks which can really break their hands. It's better to break your hand than your head, right?
@Vlad2TKD Well I have seen them a double block with both arms in K-1 for the most part. But this kick in particular is very powerful and is likely not wise to single hand block it; although it could be single hand blocked if you used the energy of the kick to move yourself out of the way. I think this kick is easy to disrupt in kickboxing, that's why it's hardly ever done in K-1.
@ealvward Dude u seem to know much about taekwondo , just curios is Taekwondo also called TKO or is it something else? cuz the place i go to train jiujitsu also train TKO and i dont know what it is i thought its like karate or sumthing
why do people who do tae kwon do keep thier hands down? any KO i have seen in TKD would not have been a KO if the hands had of been up in a guard position
@petesy2301 actually it differs from different parts of Korea, I've trained in Iceland with trainers that taught it to me as Tornado kick and even gave the Korean words for it and then I went to a new trainer after moving and he taught it to me as a spin kick and gave other Korean words, both of them have 4th dan
@TheWebzu I trained in Seongnam with Pung Saeng high school the number one in Korea. They have never known it to be called Tornado Kick, WTF has it down as spin kick.
and a martial artist isnt measured by his fighting ability its measured on his character and meritts and you dont deserve to call yourself one, youve proven to be a disgrace just like your idols the disgracies.
that wasnt really LEGIT. The 360 was perfect however he shouldve seen him spin and quiclky react with a counter. Oh well, its not like im that great either. Nice video :)
the reason the guys hands weren't up is that the fighters need their hands on positions to block body shots as well. there are no hand strikes to the head only the body. it takes longer to get your a foot to someone's head, so the fighter should be able block or avoid head shots. this example is a very quick tornado kick counter by one fighter and a slow reaction defensively by the other fighter TKD is a great style for any type of stand up, not just point fighting its all about how you use it
@steevorama a tornado kick is you gettin blasted in the face and spinning around cause you just got knocked the F*** out lmfao that guy didn't know what hit him lol
I should also add that spinning kicks are usually used to scare someone. Make them think twice about closing (i.e. spin heel kick). This guy got lucky.
It's easy to say he could have dodged it by watching the video. Once you're in the ring it's not so simple. Plus, the guy that got hit was a little off-balance, and he's a pretty tall person. Makes it harder.
As for keeping your hands up: Most of the time you keep them down to A) stop more body kicks which account for 90% of points, B) keep your vision clear, and C) keep your body loose to easily pull off some of the "fancier" stuff.
blue telegraphed his kick by lifting his leg before starting the kick. (probably been doing this since he was a yellow belt, hard habbit to break) If red sees this, he throws a back kick right then and blue is on his backside. Also, red made the mistake of stepping backwards, and not towards his oppenent. Tough to teach yourself to move in, when someone is coming at you, but if you do, it takes away his power, and this kick never happens.
@Arc6789 Yeah - but it's hard to step into someone - natural tendency is to retreat - It was still a pretty well thrown kick though. :) cover punch or a back kick would have put Blue on his backside (not knocked out) but definately put down. Of course it's easy to decide what to do when you are sitting on the couch watching - when in the ring, those kicks look a lot faster. LOL :)
There is punching allowed, but only to the body, which does absolutely nothing with all that padding. It is much more effective to kick somebody's face in. See above video! :-D
Hard for him to dodge with his pitiful feeler low kick. He committed to forward motion and couldn't retreat. What's with no hand's to guard the face? They're just uselessly at the sides! It makes no sense.
@thecamlayton it was more than likely World TKD Federation (which is what you see in the Olympics and is watered down in the sense it has no hand techniques and is based in point sparring) instead of ITF which is the original 'style' TKD
Oh. I don't know much about TKD. I might look into that. I hear bad things about TKD but I always think the most important things are the instructor, but even more so the student's own effort... style not so much. At any rate, this was a bit careless.
yeah, I get that alot...I used to do it and took more than my fair share of bitch talking from kickboxers and MT guys...TKD is generally twice as fast and uncommitted as a MT kick would be, and in that sense...it is incredibly brutal, providing you learn it right and such. Yes, agreed, the teacher makes all the difference
wtf taekwondo does have had techniques we just use them sometimes but u can punch it just has to be a really hard hit to get a point look it up and wtf taekwondo is still new ppl its only been a few years so keep up the good work and dont fight over stupid stuff like other styles can beat other styles its just stupid all martial arts are the same there all good
true. but notice that there is always a good 4ft between the two fighters, meaning that they're attacks are almost always out of range and the defender has time to react, therefore there is no immediate threat and no need for keeping your hands up.
i hear a lot of that...and thats usually because WTF is more popular....check out ITF thats what they use in the korean military...WTF came about as a governing body for sport taekwondo...it still has uses in real life and it is still a martial art though
Red belt, foot position gave it away, his foot position is in defense stance, back thrust kick should be easy to execute. But when he lifted his leg halfway, Boom! counter hit. He should go all the way....Their kicks are too slow. Do squats x100 a day, jog few miles and spar on target with partner. Anyway, good fight.
That wouldn't build kick speed, it might build strength and endurance. Repeated kicks on a bag, flexibility and lots of plyometrics for the legs and core (medicine ball set-up tosses on incline, hang and powercleans, box jumps, single arm dumbell clean and jerk etc.) would build explosive speed.
you dont keep your hands down when your sparring, the dude who got kicked is stupid because he didn't go for him when his hand was down. and it's called hurricane kick, not tornado kick
@MrThatguy1312 u know what as a karateka i repect the style of tae kwon do , so why in earth would you call karate crappy? theres no crappy martial art theres only crappy martial artist's and the way you presented yourself your not too far from it.

@MrThatguy1312 maybe to you its easy because you took 2 classes and quit, ive been doing it for years on end and am skilled in the application, you however probably started taking mma and think your the ultimate fighter, its childish thinking to compare a fad to an art thats been proven in life or death situations both in ancient times and modern times
I agree, i go tae kwon do and i ve sparred alot of times, my guard is always up. My best mate who is my senior has one of the hardest kicks i ve been hit by, he has never knocked me out because my guard is up. The only time anybody should keep their guard down is when they are at a reasonable distance from their opponent
epic fail dude U ALWAYS keep ur gaurd up never let it down cuz the second u do POW holy crap wat hit me! i actually KNOCKD some out without even trying wich was funny>D any1 ever a see a green advance belt knock out a black 3rd dan? o.0
