From what I see/hear, you took the lineart from previous tutorial, then...???
step 3: profit!
i assume this: new layer, underneath lineart, use brush tool for big areas (@ %60), then what looks like the smudge tool for shading? and dodge/burn to darken/lighten areas?
Hi! Awsome drawings. How do you manage to smooth out the linework? I mean how do you create linework thats not hard edge, which parameters do you set to this end? Also, how big are your pictures usually when you dont work with vectors, I mean jpgs. Thanks a lot! M
This is inspiring. I sketch weird creatures a lot. But I always want to bring it into Photoshop to make it look 3d ish. It looks disastrous. I have to try. I guess you have to know all the brush and presets quite well to work it.
@chinaahpek Not really, you can learn them as you go. It took me a while to get as comfortable with photoshop as I am now, but there a re a lot of awesome tutorials out there.
Outside of videos made by my teachers, this is one of the most helpful Illustrator speedpaints/how-tos that I've found. You're also one of the few people who have verbally encouraged others to use hot keys in their videos, mad props to you, girl!
Thank you :) It's difficult to blend like that in illustrator, but a lot of people try to achieve similar looks with vexel art. I've never used Elements, so unfortunately I can't say. If it has a brush tool, then you should be in business.
How do you paint, just on other layers? or you said you started by how you flattened out the colors of the paintbrush.... what does this mean and how do you do this?
I "flatted" out the colors - not a word at all, but basically it means that before I started the video, I used a large hard brush to color in the flat base colors before I started shading. You can also use the lasso tool to select the large areas of color to fill in the flat colors.
You want to create a new layer for each color so that you can preserve the transparency and color over it with shadows and highlights and not go out of your lines or run over another color.
Thanks :) I use a lot of shortcuts when I'm not recording, but when I first started making videos, I tried to do operations manually (when I remembered) so that people could tell when I was changing my brush size or texture, switching tools and whatnot. I sped this one up so ridiculously that it doesn't matter anyway, though! I've mentioned shortcuts a few times in my newer videos, but I'm thinking of doing one featuring shortcuts and time saving tips.
you paint with a Digital paincel, or with the mouse ??????!!! , I want paint like that, I and drawing rithg now, maybe you can paint one of my sketch :) !
It took a few years for me to get to this point, but if I had learned more about the shortcuts up front, I probably would have gotten better faster. Tutorials are the key!
