Very nice!!! I captured four Quadrantid meteors with my camera yesterday morning. Check it out on my channel when you get a chance. I definitely am gonna try to do video next time.
i not too long ago came from outside for tonight's meteor shower. i wasn't so sure if i was seeing what i was seeing, but after watching this... you'll have to spot them when they happen. but i did see one shoot across like really fast though.
In 2011, most of the best meteor showers occurred when the moon was close to full. This natural "light pollution" made the fainter meteors impossible to see.
But 2012 starts out with a fine meteor shower, the Quadrantids, with absolutely no moon to interfere with the viewing. The Quadrantid meteor shower will peak on Jan. 4 at about 2 a.m. EST (0700 GMT).
lol i read that in yahoo news so just get ready to see this amazing show...again :)
i went out on sunday at 11pm (mountain) and stayed til 5am(mt) between 3 of us we seen thousands...no bullshit...........it was the most amazing thing ive ever witnessed........it made things seem that they didnt matter anymore........
i recommend everyone take time at every chance they get to go view meteor showers, especially this one next year.............
ive never seen a metoer shower and i wanna reley wanna see one this time any advice on how to see it today or tommorow by the waty i live in a area where therse lots of light.
Sorry you missed it, Earth only takes a day or two to travel through a stream of meteoroids. The next decent shower is the Quadrantids (Early hours Jan 3rd) then after that the Lyrids (22 April) But you must go out on the night of the peak and hope that its not cloudy. If you are able it is best to watch in the early hours of the morning, as meteors are most common at about 4am.
Ya I can only see like 40 feet in any direction outside my house, for some damned reason there has been some hardcore fog only at night for like the past week... soooo infuriating with a meteor shower going on behind the damn fog :(
Unfortunately, in my time, I had to go sleep because it was a Monday the next day. It was extremely intimidating. So I stayed up till 11pm, and I only saw two from 10pm. I was so upset when I realised it was a Monday the next day, so obviously a working/college/school day. It was upsetting; I loved meteor showers.
Is there one every year? If so, the predicted one, when?
Yes every year at this time, but you will still have a good chance to see them tonight because it takes a few days for Earth to travel through the stream.
The clouds last night were so infuriating! And looks like it's going to be the same tonight. But I went out on Saturday in vague optimism and must have seen one every two or so minutes which was a good rate seeing as that must've been a day before the estimated peak. And saw one very memorable one, lasted a full five seconds! Still, the weather kind of ruined it, and quite a while until the next major one, but do you know if the one in January is any good?
The Quadrantids can be good, but the peak is so narrow that its hard to get a good view. I have been running the camera for five years but haven't got a good view. Fingers crossed again for this year!
Night time! Just look up and towards the constellation of Gemini or maybe towards the darkest part of your sky, they can appear almost anywhere in the sky so just keep your eyes peeled!
its crazy... all of a sudden this bright greenish glow out of southern sky on downward northern decent... this streak lit the pacific ocean and it was better than any IMAX flick i ever saw. A world theatre of majestic proportions, simply wow. I thought what happen in africa a few weeks ago was strange, but seeing it in real life in winters night air over the ocean takes the cake. Get out of the house, climb on your roof be in awe.
I do sympathize, our Irish weather is notorious! I've learned not to get my hopes up when anything interesting happens, like meteor showers! Clear Skies!
