Thats what Hip-hop/Rap artists do, they don't need to compose their own music, all they need to do is write, so in that sense, Rappers/Hip-hop artists are more like poets, though not really as deep thinking most of the time. They usually borrow from another song and just build off it I.E. Daft Punks Aerodynamic is a bit more blatant

There's way more of an art to making great music out of samples. It's not as easy as speeding up or slowing down a sample. Sometimes you don't have to change anything but the arraingment. Till you try makin sample music you shouldn't critizie. I'm a producer who does both original and sample music. It's easier to creat from scratch to me. Findin that one snippet or right sound could take forever. Kayne is genius for continuously finding new hot samples to "flip".
