What type of soil do you use? I just got an orchid and three out of seven are withering, I heard that i should cut it but i don't know if it will work, what kind of fertilizer should i use.
You dont use soil for orchids. it is either Bark or Sphagnum moss. If your orchids are withering ( the plants not flowers) then the most common cause is overwatering.Suggest you watch my vidoes on watering orhids... how to water your orchid in Bark medium or How water in Moss medium.
I don't agree with these watering advice. The watering shouldn't be more often once every 7-10 days in the summer and 10-15 days in winter. This, of course depends on how weather conditions. All experts that I have met so far recommand leting the potting media dry out before next watering and I have found that very good.
Also, sunlight is good but only morning sunlight. Having your orchids sitting in the sun the whole day may (and probbaly will) cause sunburns...
I have a Phal in my care, it was given to me in August in a closed pot. It is in full bloom, and has signs of more growth. Should I go ahead and transplant it in a container with drainage holes and put in a second pot like that or should I wait until the budding stage is over? Also, two of my flowers have two pedals each that started to curl in in the middle of the flower. Is that a bad sign? I know nothing about orchid care, learning as I go.
@DGF666KTG Wait 'till the flowers are gone and than repot if needed. The orchid pot should have holes on it for good drainage and should be translucent (if we are talikng about Phalaenopsis) so that roots can get some light, too.
If your plant is looking healthy and shows growth, I would leave it alone, and change the pot only when the flowers are done. About curling of flower petals, there is some natural curves to the petals. If the rest of the plant looks healthy you should be ok. A pot with drainage holes is good, it definitely gives the roots a chance to dry out.
