I've been a closet metrosexual for years. I've had lots of suppression that's really hidden away my natural tendencies. I grew up in a rural area, but I always felt out of place among the simple folk. I enjoy much more having the ability to free in my choice to take pride in looking after myself.
It's one thing to be refined, sophisticated and willing to take care of your appearance & health. It's quite another thing to be superficial and shallow with no clue as to what it means to be deep and compassionate. What most people call "metrosexual" is just a ruse to sell cosmetics and expensive clothes to men.
i'm straight, but i look "gay" to most people because I have boyish face/good-looking. No matter how "straight" i dress, people still think I'm gay. So I just own my metrosexual tendencies--i eat right, take care of my body, educate myself, read, write, i like politics etc. i do like clothes and looking good. i like being cultured. i grew up in the suburbs of nyc. growing up in new york, you can help but be fashion-conscious. everyone projects richness here. that's what texans and such don't get
in stead of looking awful and always giving points
to woman for their looks. It s degrading and pervers. That way i think it is better that boys also look good but they have to give the honour to the ladies to give them confidence.
It's ridiculous how many people confuse metrosexuality with homosexuality, or say it's narcissistic.
"He's had a manicure, he's obviously gay/narcissistic" is a really stupid term. Because a man wants to look good instead of ugly and an eyesore, they're labeled as "gay".
I don't know what's your idea on metrossexual but for me the first names to pop up in my mind would be Hedi Slimane (one of the greatest stylists the world has ever met!), Pete Doherty (the most stylish rockstar in the world), Justin Timberlake (the american closest imitation to european trendy style)...and so on.
To be stylish is all about detail - a nice pair of shoes, a nice tie, nice jeans and of course...a nice jacket! If I'd see any of these guys on the street I wouldn't even notice them!
Not to sound too offensive or arrogant but you picked up the wrong guys to serve as an example of metrosexuals!
You should come to Europe guys! Seriously...these guys have no sense of style whatsoever!
I am a convict metrossexual...I spend hours looking for the best trends, clothes, etc and I completely understand that it is really a matter of personal taste..but come on!
If these guys are metrossexuals I don't even want to picture the "normal" guys!
seriously, everyone thinks your gay because the way you dress, talk, how high maintenance you are per se. but no! nothing wrong with trying to take care of your self image and liking clothes. be open minded!
I'm a metro and some people think I'm gay. My family thinks I'm gay but my mom understands me. We sometimes go shopping for hair products around the mall. My favourite ones are The Face Shop, TIGI, and Gatsby. I always look at my hair from day to day. When I look at the mirror, I look at my hair first.
I would even say that in regards to the piece/part about clothing stores, I would include Buffalo (David Bitton), American Eagle, and Bootlegger in the more "metrosexual" types of stores.
Metrosexuality and being gay have nothing to do with one another. A metro man is totally straight. He enjoys taking care of himself and looking good because A. It makes him feel good, and B. He is aware that women love a man who takes good care of himself. It's 2009, people. Women expect alot more from us guys. Women take very good care of themselves and expect their men to devote time to their own body and mind. Again, being a metrosexual has absolutely nothing to do with being homosexual.
Yes, I agree, Metrosexual has nothing to do with homosexuality. Usually Metrosexual men are more trendy, dress in a classy manner, and really pay attention to detail (mainly in regards to their apperance), they are usually pretty left wing (more liberal), than other men would be and(usually) having many visible body piercings. These people more on the open-minded rather than traditional side. I go to a very left wing University, so I am usually within the presence of these kinds of things/trends
I still dont understand why being a metro sexual is bad. If you love yourself as a person you'd want to take care of yourself. This is the year 2009; I don't understand why being a "man" is considered being unkept and dirty.
Metro sexuals are a products of a capitalist, consumerist culture, where image improvement out ways self improvement. If you spent half as much time on expanding your mind and learning about the world around you, instead of styling your fucking hair and doing your nails, you would realize that your falling into the corppolitical mind set and just becoming a slave to the corporations, chasing and image that they say you should have.
I'm married and I refuse to be and look like a bum for my wife and 3 yr old daughter. I'm always going to represent useful masculinity in terms of generosity, cleanliness, and care for my family. To me, this term "metro" seems like a bs label to make stinky, bum type guys feel better about themselves. And any women who says that she wants a guy who does not shower, make money, or dress well, is dishonest.
Touche my friend. I totally agree. Taking care of yourself and making sure you are on point when you go out in public doesnt make you a metrosexual(i hate that term by the way), i makes you a man. Any chick who thinks im too clean or smell to good or take care of myself to well can keep their asses movin'.....LOL..
im like halfway metro.....nice hair, i don't need to tan im already ebony toned (im mixed and indian) i also don't where button up shirts with shoes....im like a fresh to def style....like mixing kanye west style minus the suits with m.i.a sort style minus pink stuff...the ladies love me, if they didn't i would stop! yes i have alot of self-love or ego...selfobsessed or whatever but i do not consider myself higher or better as another person.............just looks-wise though...im da shit! lol.
I don't think we should promote unhealthy narcissism, but promoting men to take care of their health and overall appearance is a positive step in gender relations overall. The problem comes when it is taken too far, and we see increases in male eating disorders and body image problems.
To me it seems that although most people have a great desire to look good in other people's eyes, whether it be females or other guys (friends or other), or both, the metrosexual male seems to bring this to a new, almost obsessive level. Correct me if i am wrong, but it seems like a response to having slightly less self-confidence than a non-metrosexual. Having said this, i must now contradict myself with a few examples, look at Will Smith, or John Travolta, both classy, stylish straight men.
I prefer men who take care of their appearance, who are sensitive, and are less concerned about appearing macho...and most women I know feel the same way.
im a non metrosexual bloke, i dont mind metrosexual men as long as theyre not assholes, unfortunately ive yet to meet a metrosexual man that isnt an asshole!
would you please enable embedding for this video? i would very much so like to add to to my site becuz it expresses my state of mind without people just flat out thinking im gay becuz im a feminine male.
metros are all about: tight fitted everything especially jeans, layers of clothing, and having trendy hair. the guy in the mirror with loose jeans, a shirt, with a shirt under, and short hair isn't very metro. metro is a person that looks like a musician, but isn't
wth. We dont need a new term for this, this is just being a good gentleman.

Staying fit and healthy is fine. Obsessing over your appearance and behaving feminine is just embarrassing.
Man up! Scratch yourself and get the hell over it!

last i checked EVERYBODY likes to look their best. that does't excuse the extreme feminine behaviours that "so called" metrosexual adopt...

The only thing that Metrosexuals do that I would adopt, is the whole man-bag idea... But I would need one that looks good and still masculine....
Not for a fashion statement, but because I have to carry alot of crap with me that I need to have on hand.
