  • this video needs subtitles so i can practice my mandarin! :)

  • @iamserge - I don't have subtitles. But I hope someone out there can help out by

    posting it here. Thanks.

  • So much nostalgia :,)

  • @mabindaby555 - so true, thanks.

  • What does the title mean? does it mean " i love u more than i can say?"

  • The literal translation of the song title is "I love you a million times".

The exact translation from the lyrics means that she loves him a million times.

But he only lovers hedr a thousand times.

This means she loves him more than he loves her.

  • Thank i love it..now i can sing it one of my girl LOL..i will love her secretly until i tell her so..LOL

  • Great, thanks.

  • I have been hearing her songs since 1968 when I was in Form 1 equilvalent to Sec 2. I didn t know she was from Indonesia. I am staying in Johor Bahru just across the Strait of Johor and we are able to receive Spore TV channels. She would appear quite regularly in this programme called Chinese variety show

on Friday night ( Hua yet Liang seow) during the 60s in Channel 8. BTW asianfandonny r u from Malaysia.

  • Hi NgChgiming, thanks for sharing your experiences. I am also from Malaysia and I was surprised too that she could be Indonesian born Chinese.

Mr. Ddyprnt777 is nice to have sent me some of ZXY songs in Bahasa Indonesia/Bahasa Malaysia.

    Thanks for sharing your experiences.

  • .....during the late 50's or early 60's. Then, when S'pore gained independence in 1965, ZXY opted to remain in S'pore and thus got her S'porean nationality. Makes sense right? Well, this is just my assumption. If anyone has more information about ZXY, please feel free to share ok?

  • .....her pronunciation in all of the 14 songs couldn't be more precise. It was as if bahasa Indonesia was her mother tongue. Anybody who listens to this cassette would be led to believe ZXY must have been born and grew up in Indonesia. Yesterday I was tempted to ask my dad about ZXY. He told me she was from Makassar, South Sulawesi. This was the common and widespread belief among the Chinese community in those days. If I may speculate, I think ZXY was born in Indonesia, went to S'pore.....

  • When I was small, I heard the elders in my family say ZXY is from Indonesia. My maid who has worked for my family for 30 years is also a fan of ZXY. She even still keep with her an old audio cassette of ZXY singing 14 of her hits in bahasa Indonesia ( Indonesian language ). I listened to it yesterday. ZXY introduced herself and gave a short speech in bahasa Indonesia. I was completely stunned! It was very fluent and her accent was 100% Indonesian! Her singing was even more spectacular.....

  • Hi, please can you post the songs of Zhang Xiao Ying singing in Indonesian.

Bahasa Malaysia (Malay language) is just like Bahasa Indonesian.

Many Malay words used to be spelled differently from Indonesian. I think around 1972, the Malaysian government decided to change all Bahasa Malaysia spellings to be the same as Bahasa Indonesian. Example:

    "Ayer" (water) became "air",

    "Chantek" became "cantik",

    "Enche" became "encik" etc.

Yes, please post her Indonesian songs here. Thanks.

  • Wow ! haven't heard this song for decades. Brings back childhood memories when I was around 4-5 years old. I was staying in my grandma's house back then. Quite sad to think how fast time flies! If I am not wrong, Zhang Xiao Ying is IBC (Indonesian-born Chinese). Really miss her songs and beautiful voice.

  • Oh yes, time flies. BTW, Zhang Xiao Ying is from Singapore and I think she was born in Singapore too.

  • I am not a Chinese, nor speaking Chinese but we love her singings. My first hearing of her song was back the 70s.

  • @YawmZajlaug - Thanks. Actually her singing style and Donny Osmond when

he was young before his voice changed - they both influenced my singing style.

If you checked out some of Donny's songs from 1972 like "Big Man", "Run to Him", "Go Away Little Girl (1971)", the singing style is so similar to

Zhang Xiao Ying, even the texture and the sweetness of the voice too.

  • my favorite song!

  • Hi Darrenvkham, I like this song too. She has a very good voice and in my opinion, is even better than Whitney Houston.

  • way better than Whitney. I like her version better than TTeng.

  • Thanks, I think Teresa Teng's voice is less powerful even though it's mellow.

  • Two thumbs up for asianfanofdonny for posting this song. It is long time ago until I can listen to this song again.

  • OMG OMG OMG !!! I've been lookin for this song for a looong time. Heard it when I was very small, a different version though. Anyway, thanks for posting.

  • Hi Chainsmokincoder, glad you like the song. Zhang Xiao Ying has a really dynamic voice, crisp and clear with a good range especially the highs and much better than Whitney Houston in my opinion.

  • i am sorry..... ok so sweet song..

  • The singer's voice is sweet but the lyrics of the song is sad. It sounds like she loves the guy more than he loves her. She loves him a million times but he loves her only a thousand times - wow!

  • Yep, good old time. In the 70s a radio station in Thailand played this song along with other hits every evening.

  • Hi Fanplaing, thanks and glad I could share the song. She was very popular in South East Asia. I was only a few years old then.

  • please register

  • Thanks Deluxeers, I was only using a trial version of the software to convert the song to a format for uploading to youtube. Yes, I did register and that's why you will notice that my later videos do not have that message of "Please register" anymore.

  • it was 22 years till i hear this song again now i use to listen to this song when i was 8

  • it was 22 years till i hear this song again now

  • This has got to be the original, right???

  • Yes, this is the original singing of Zhang Xiao Ying. A few singers also did this song too.
