@Omer698 Anybody potentially affected by Islam has a right to comment on it. Some Muslims have a dictitorial attiude to Muslims and non-Muslims alike. We all have a right to comment on and actively resist it.
You should be demanding scholarship and integrity. This man's *lifestyle* is his business, not yours.
@kommissarw No, a layman has no right to authoritatively comment on Astro physics, a drug addict has no right to authoritatively comment on sobriety, the same applies to this individual.
@Omer698 You said its about his lifestyle, now you conflate expertise with devotion.
Not the same thing.
Where do you think knowledge comes from, before there were Professors of Astrophysics, there were people that studied the related fields that composed that new discipline. This applies to any field of research.
As for being a "lay" person, nobody has an exclusive claim to authority, religious or otherwise. This guy isn't threatening anybody, so I will hear him out.
@kommissarw As for a drug addict commenting on sobriety..
Where to begin. Is Islam about being Heterosexual and that's it? If so I'm a Muslim, who would of thought?!.
You have implied a false dichotomy there. But lets take the concept of "what would a Homosexual know about being Heterosexual so they shouldn't comment" further & reverse it. What would standard Islam know about being Homosexual? Islam should shut up about it right?
@kommissarw I'm not conflating the two. A person leading a lifestyle contradicting to the religion he's promoting comes across as indeed lacking expertise otherwise it would've been abundantly clear what is permitted and what isn't and secondly that individual absolutley lacks any devotion as he commits two serious sins, one that is homosexuality and second he's permitting the forbidden.
Hence this individual has no right to proselytize anything to do with this religion.
@Omer698 So your drug addict vs sobriety is incorrect then.
If you want to argue that Islam is opposed to homosexuality, go right ahead and do that. If you think Kugel is wrong, argue that with him.
Dont just whine about it and insist he is wrong. The crazy thing is, he has said nothing about homosexuality in this video, yet you disregard everything he says. Can you point to anything at all he says in THIS video that you do not think of as representative of Islam?
True happiness comes from allowing others free choice, and freedom of speech. Neither sits well with the Islam faith. You only have to criticize one thing about the Koran or call into question the prophet Mohammad, and there is a riot.
Such volatility and lack of compassion does not breed true happiness. Many Muslims also carry a deep seated hatred for the nation of Israel, Christians and the West, and where there is hatred in the heart, there is no room for true love and true happiness.
This man should not discuss Islam given the life he leads
