Man... I have really been kicking my ass lately over shooting my most recent footage in 24p. I practically ruined what could have otherwise been some excellent slow-mo sequences. Too bad I had to learn this the hard way. If you're curious you can check out my two most recent shorts and judge for yourself. Anyway thanks for the inspiration man. sorry about this ignorant question. Does the HV-30 have a "slow motion" (i.e., faster frame rate capture) mode or was this done post processing?  Very nice video btw!

the most it has is 60i, which is 30p or 29.97 frames per second, and each frame has two interlaced fields.

you can separate the fields and deinterlace to create 60 progressive frames per second, then you can slow it down to slow motion.

it's alot of work, but the results are great!

i don't even have the camera, i've just read ALOT on forums. I've learned so much just from reading forums.

it must look great the original file (not the compressed web version). The compression does really take away its sharpness, brightness, and color noticeably.

use a slower shutter speed like 1/60 or 1/120 if u want a smoother slowmo

i thought for smooth slow motion you use fast shutter speeds such as 1/250 to 1/2000?

the choice of words like smooth , fluid , crisp totally depends on each individual .

the idea here is , shutter speed like 1/60 and 1/120 , will also include some motion blur , which shud be there .

using a very high shutter speed will not include the motion blur and wud give u a crisp slow mo.

i prefer a little bit motion blur , to make my slomo more believable.

yeah I really like the crisper 1/2000 shutter speed when slowed up rather than a slower shutter speed. The only downfall of fast shutter speeds is that you need alot of light.

Its not really a setting than more of a piece. I set my camera to manual focus isntead of automatic and i focus using the cameras focus ring.

hey

ur already doing nice work , but ill try to share what i know.

progressive mode i already mentioned , shutter speed and photo trick you already know . Try the TIME REMAPING (in after effects pro) to create the slowmo effect .

or u can also try sony vegas VELOCITY envelopes (make sure you enable the resampling for that event).

Twixtor , the after effects plugin is the best available tool/plugin for this job , but thats gonna cost u bucks and a lot of render time.

i'm looking to get this camera, and i think your video just sold me on it. but did you shoot all of that stuff with the 1/2000 shutter speed, cuz some of it looked slower, meaning the slower frame rate. I'm a mac user too, so i'd be using final cut, but nice job, now i'm excited.

it sure helps, there are a few good videos out there for HD. but remember, your footage needs to be HD footage to work in HD. otherwise. look up . how to render in High Quality.

I am talking about shutter speeds. If you shoot at a specific frame rate (say 30 fps video) - then turning that footage into "slow motion" is always a compromise because the original capture of information marched to a specific NOT slow motion drummer.

What settings for the camera do you suggest, taking into consideration that the movie will be edited with final cut pro? thanks a lot!

Hey Shongy. If you are to colour correct, I would recommend using Cinemode because of the colour range it looks great when you colour correct. If you don't like cinemode because you can't change the shutter speed, then use Tv Mode with a 1/60 shutter.

Yeah but when you click on watch in high quality and put it on fullscreen, you won't see it in 720p hd. I found a secret that if you type in &fmt=22 and put the video on fullscreen or leave it to small, you will actually see it on 720p HD!
