It is...if you do it wrong. Never go over 10 seconds if they're cracked already. I had one from the freezer in for 15 seconds, and it exploded. It ruined my strings, because of the smell, and I had to wash out my microwave with a bleach based cleaner to get the chemicals off. It still smelt bad until today, when I cooked bacon in it ^_^

yup... the heat speeds up the chemical reaction between the 2 chemicals making it really bright for the first couple minutes after u crack the sticks... They do die alot faster when u microwave them though
