i'm not convinced the choruses are lipped, they do sound slightly different to the original. The long note up to 3:07 could be live, she doesn't go straight back into the chorus like usual, but takes a breather before joining in again. Some people sound so 100% certain, but i've seen when she lips and its painfully obvious. Here its difficult to tell, the quality isn't great and we can't see her face up close. In this era her voice was in good shape so i'm giving her the benefit of the doubt.

I think Mariah uses Vibrato a LOT more these days, because if you look back, Mariah actually hits HIGHER notes than she did when she first came out. I doubt she could've hit an A5 in 1990-1993. she recently hit it in her The Emancipation Of Mimi & Charmbracelet albums. I believe she could hit a Bb5 too. Don't forget she still has 5 octaves.

The original recording is a half step higher, and you can hear the vowel/formant distortion after being pitched down to match the live key she is singing in because the lipped parts (prerecorded vocals like in the chorus) sound like a giant version of mariah is singing. She has amazing vocal talent but the way she sings uses a lot of muscles around her larynx, which tires out the voice. She cant get through an entire song anymore, but after nearly 20 years thats not surprising; i still love her!

Exactly. You can totally tell that it's the recorded vocals taken down. Her live vocals sound a lot different in this performance compared to the lipped ones. Check 2:15 to 2:22 and you can hear the difference. She did this on her "Charmbracelet" tour as well.

No one is telling anything to Mariah. Im telling this to you. She has been lipsynching the harder parts of her songs since 1999-2000 because her voice is SEVERELY damaged. Nodules symptoms include hoarseness, painful speech or singing, frequent vocal breaks and reduced vocal range, and those are all the symptoms that Mariah has. Her songs are even harder to sing than her previous songs. She is an studio singer now, she cannot pull off any of her latest songs completely live.

When you have vocal nodules they reduce your vocal ranged and your voice breaks all the time, specially in severe cases like Mariah. Thats why she has to lipsynch the long belted parts like she did on I Stay In Love.
Some days are better than others. And according to mariah, shes had these nodules since she was 17 and they are what able her to reach all these high notes.
What Mariah said is that the nodules helped her to do the whistle register, not the regular high notes. And its not impossible, it is very clear, and shes done it before. I actually saw it live MANY times, and she always do the same.
Ok then, its near impossible to tell if Mariah miming in this clip. We cant see Mariahs expressions (which can be a dead give away if shes miming) and the sound quality isnt that good either.
Mariahs had these nodules since she was a little girl and every now and then they play her up ('98-00 and '06-09) Shes had some vocal training to sort them out in 2002 and she was considering having them removed but never did.
Its not impossible. You just need to hear it. Some people can percieve it, some not. Aside from that, nodules is a condition that gets worst and worst. You can have all the technique you want and the best vocal coach on the world, that if you have nodules you will always be straining and damaging your voice. Being that said, and aside from the sound difference between her voice and the lipsynching, it is impossible for her to sing like that. She cannot sing that smooth without cracking.
And thats another thing nodules produce. If you listen to her records in order you will notice that the cracks became more frequent. Specially since Butterfly tour. Husky, worn out and raspy. She does lipsynch the harder parts of her songs because she is not able to deliver without cracking or losing her voice on stage. Look at her Mimi tour, she lipsynched all the harder parts of her songs. She just simply cant. This is not bashing her at all, this is her reality.
Ive seen her live millions of times. Im not saying she lipsynchs the whole performances, she just lipsynchs the harder parts. The Mimi tour took most her the voice she had left. When she sings live she sounds like she did in the MJ Memorial or the Americas Got Talent performance, and in the latter she actually lipsynched some parts. She even lipsynched on the Grammy awards in 2005, and you can clearly notice that. I was in awe when I saw her lipsynching there.
The Grammys were definetly not lipped. Mariah has very obvious signs when she lip syncs. Her hands and general movement is very different.

For example lets take the final part of WBT at the Grammys. On the final belted part she is belting the song with the mic almost inside her mouth, that is technically impossible. It is impossible to sound that way with the mic so close to the mouth. Then on the final note (which is live) she puts the mic away. Do you see the difference?

Exactly. You can totally tell that it's the recorded vocals taken down. Her live vocals sound a lot different in this performance compared to the lipped ones. Check 2:15 to 2:22 and you can hear the difference. She did this on her "Charmbracelet" tour as well.
I love MC and I'm not saying this to call her out b/c I'm sure this is a difficult song to sing, but let's be real people...

She is not at her very best anymore in this performance, the occasional hoarseness gives it away. Her voice was not like this in 93 and it sounded so different from that version as well. How on earth did you come to the conclusion that she is lipsynching with the 1993 track??? Whether or not she pre-recording a version before the preformance I cannot tell because of the poor video quality of the clip. It's unlikely, and I am sure she can put together some better in studio. Admit it, she is good!

No one is telling anything to Mariah. Im telling this to you. She has been lipsynching the harder parts of her songs since 1999-2000 because her voice is SEVERELY damaged. Nodules symptoms include hoarseness, painful speech or singing, frequent vocal breaks and reduced vocal range, and those are all the symptoms that Mariah has. Her songs are even harder to sing than her previous songs. She is an studio singer now, she cannot pull off any of her latest songs completely live.

Because when you in studio you can do a lots of takes until you satisfied the notes that you hit and in live you only got one shot and you cannot repeat it, so maybe sometimes she sangs in a pitchy way but so what? Exactly. And because in live you only have one shot she cannot take the risk of failing. When you have vocal nodules they reduce your vocal ranged and your voice breaks all the time, specially in severe cases like Mariah. Thats why she has to lipsynch the long belted parts like she did on I Stay In Love.

What Mariah said is that the nodules helped her to do the whistle register, not the regular high notes. And its not impossible, it is very clear, and shes done it before. I actually saw it live MANY times, and she always do the same.

Ok then, its near impossible to tell if Mariah miming in this clip. We cant see Mariahs expressions (which can be a dead give away if shes miming) and the sound quality isnt that good either.
Mariahs had these nodules since she was a little girl and every now and then they play her up ('98-00 and '06-09) Shes had some vocal training to sort them out in 2002 and she was considering having them removed but never did.

Its not impossible. You just need to hear it. Some people can percieve it, some not. Aside from that, nodules is a condition that gets worst and worst. You can have all the technique you want and the best vocal coach on the world, that if you have nodules you will always be straining and damaging your voice. Being that said, and aside from the sound difference between her voice and the lipsynching, it is impossible for her to sing like that. She cannot sing that smooth without cracking.

And thats another thing nodules produce. If you listen to her records in order you will notice that the cracks became more frequent. Specially since Butterfly tour. Husky, worn out and raspy. She does lipsynch the harder parts of her songs because she is not able to deliver without cracking or losing her voice on stage. Look at her Mimi tour, she lipsynched all the harder parts of her songs. She just simply cant. This is not bashing her at all, this is her reality.

Ive seen her live millions of times. Im not saying she lipsynchs the whole performances, she just lipsynchs the harder parts. The Mimi tour took most her the voice she had left. When she sings live she sounds like she did in the MJ Memorial or the Americas Got Talent performance, and in the latter she actually lipsynched some parts. She even lipsynched on the Grammy awards in 2005, and you can clearly notice that. I was in awe when I saw her lipsynching there.

The Grammys were definetly not lipped. Mariah has very obvious signs when she lip syncs. Her hands and general movement is very different.
Mariah has had these nodules since she was a little girl, even during her vocal peak she had them. Right now, shes just going through a bad patch with them. By having some vocal training, speech therapy or vocal rest, things get better. Mariah went through all of this back in 2002 the recoperate her voice.

I have vocal nodules myself and there a pain in the arse, so i can understand what Mariah is going is through. Although surgery is the only way of permanently getting rid of them, there are other ways to 'cover them up' as such. All of the above do help and they get rid of the huskiness etc but then when you over use your voice again it all comes back.

Yes. She lipsynched the difficult parts. Do you understand anything about sound engineering and live sound? If not, let me explain it to you. For example lets take the final part of WBT at the Grammys. On the final belted part she is belting the song with the mic almost inside her mouth, that is technically impossible. It is impossible to sound that way with the mic so close to the mouth. Then on the final note (which is live) she puts the mic away. Do you see the difference?

She is singing live only the first and 2nd verse. The choruses are lipped from the 93 recording with a lower key. At the end from the minute 3:07 on she sings live again. And you can clearly notice the difference.
