  • Durring the part shown 1:25-1:40 I ended up cracking the bottome bad piece into pieces and was able to get it out.

If you notice there is a break in the filming from 1:59 - 2:00. That is where I cracked the top good piece on the left edge when I pulled it out as far as he has it. A helpful warning about pulling out the top piece would have been greatly appreciated.

Bottom line, if you are a novice, the chances are good that you will screw it up.

  • Very helpful...now I know more about it and how to replace my hail damaged siding.

  • I love watching video's on youtube being a pro at all aspects of building..Nothing better than a long day at work to come hope and find some video's of some jerk-off doing somthing wrong..BUT i actually have no complaints here lol and i know this video was made acouple years ago but in the recent year i have come across vinyl siding that is alot less flexable so the tool is a must. also a good way to know that it is locked into place is to see if it slides back and forth easly :) have a nice day

  • THANKS Dominick!

replacing a window for the 1st time

trying not to destroy the siding as I removed it proved tricky

then I watched your super helpful video

completely removed siding in good shape

    & the re-installation was a SNAP!

  • @UMerryMe Good deal, glad I could help you out.

  • Nice job! Your video about repairing vinyl siding was very helpful. Just like a somebody else said my house was also damaged by the hurricane and then

the October snowstorm we recently had in New England.

  • @02139Bill Thank you. Yeah trust me I know all about it. I'm in lower New York.

  • Really good video!!!

    Now I have a question.

I have all siding like you do, from bottom to top, but I want to put brick from half way down. How do I do that??

  • @kelvyfajardo That's a whole new video. However you would need a base / footing for brick. You would be better off using a vernier and not a solid brick.

  • Thanks. Really helped!

  • Should I buy the tool Dominick? LOL

  • LOL Smoke and Mirrors

  • thanks really helped

  • @Jeffrey08017 Thank you. Glad it helped you out.

  • Why isn't the tyvek taped?

  • good info... If your in Denver Visit our site Denver Home Roofing

  • Very timely information! I have about four sections of siding damaged from a tree falling against the house during hurricane Irene. This information is just what I needed to watch, to see first hand how the repair is done. Thank you!

  • @shortliner68 Thank you very much, glad I could help out.

  • Awesome job!! You make it look so easy.

  • Fantastic! We have a really old house (built 1843) and one of the saving graces is the vinyl siding. One small issue... The way the entrance door is situated, is a mess. We live in upstate NY so when we come in and instinctually "kick our snow caked boots" before we enter.......ta-da! Shattered siding. Can't wait to try this out.

Can't wait to check out your other videos either. :)

  • Great tips, thanks! The little lady tried to kill a spider by spraying bug spray onto the siding, no matter what I try, the stain isn't coming off. I have the feeling I'll need to replace the pannels. Luckily it's just a 3' section beside a doorway.

  • I'm installing a dryer vent and needed to remove some vinyl siding, and this helped greatly. As for the tool to remove the siding, I used one of those paint can openers that Lowe's or Home Depot gives you for free when you buy paint. It doesn't have quite the bend that the tool you showed does, but it worked, and worked a LOT better than the screw driver I tried. Thanks for the DIY tip!

  • thank you

  • Great!!!! Video

  • This vid is nicely done.

  • Thank you sooooo much. Life saving tips!!!

  • lets see yall brake some metal for the freeze and fascia now... or you will have to call a pro like me to finish it up. installing the vinyl might seem easy but when it comes to actually finishing the job you need a pro like me with a brake to finish the job

  • gj paisan

  • Thanks for sharing this

  • how do you repair the corner piece. i hit mine with the weedwacker

  • wow, that was some messed up siding by that window. what gets mine is hail ... you'd think they could make the stuff not crack when it gets hit by something

  • You should have your own show ... good job

  • @Zoltan3939 I could only hope. Thank you very much.

  • thank you!!!

  • Nice! My lawnmower kicked up debris TWICE now and I've got two holes in my siding that I will finally be able to repair thanks to your vid!

  • I will follow your instruction to the "T" thankx for showing me on how to replace a peice of vinyl siding, this HELPED me alot.

  • Finally a video from start to finish Thanks so much

  • that was perfect!! thank you.

  • This video really helped me get behind my siding to trace an exterior leak. Thank you!

  • Nice dog.

  • Awesome video! Very detailed.

  • I'm moving my friend's grill closer to the house so I can try this out and be the hero.

  • You're the man Dom. I like your vids.

  • good info, thanks Dominick.

  • You should have your own show...you'd blow Bob Vila out of the water. Nice, clean and to the point.

By the way, I noticed at 7:15 you hold the nail with your thumb and middle finger, less chance of bashing your index finger.

  • Good video...that's exactly the lesson I needed before I removed/replaced my vinyl siding to replace an exterior door. Thanks Dominick!

  • Great video.

  • Great , easy to follow video! I am ready to give it a try. Thanks !

  • @tmaldri Thank you very much

  • Natural Selection at work. Vinyl siding is an indicator. In other words it makes you look dumb and cheap.

  • Awesome! Thanks for posting this video! It was very helpful! :)

  • Good video, thanks.

  • my brother in law did that twice in the same spot same year

  • @homesnakegabe That stinks

  • @DominickDiy oh i thought it was funny as all hell. he is kinda a dumb ass

  • @mannymanano Thank you very much.

  • thanks Dom. hey any videos on installing a brick chimney on the outside of a house with vinyl siding?

  • Thanks a lot!! Nice straightforward explanation.

  • Thank you, Dominick!

  • not reusing your old nails...!!! do the new ones work better??

i was impressed and now I am not

  • @fixtable Yes you can. But make sure the heads of the nails are very straight. Other wise the bent edge will make too much contact with the siding.

  • You a trip... Good video on siding repairs!!!

  • Hey, just wanted to say thanks for the video. I have a small burnt piece of siding to remove and had no idea where to start. I appreciate it!

  • Well worth 8:47..Nice job Dominick. Never Watched you before but I will now.

  • Hi, we watched this video three times before doing it ourselves, it was very helpful thank you very much. We couldn't do it with our bare hands though or with a screw driver. I would just advice to buy that little tool right away, we got it done in no time! Thanks Dom!

  • @itchweeed Oh yes it happens.

  • Nice tutorial

  • That was great...very clear and informative..don't need to view any other videos. Thanks

  • great vid thanks alot

  • Great helpful video! Not half as intimidating of a job now!

  • Wow! That looks super easy! My siding was burnt off my garage when some kids lit my garbage can on fire. A contractor wants to charge me $500+ to replace it. Thanks for the great video. I KNOW I can do this!

  • very nice video thanks!!!!

  • I'm getting ready to replace a window and was wondering how to remove the siding around it. Thanks!

  • I'M IN THE MIDDLE OF MY OWN SIDING PROJECT AND WAS WONDERING HOW FAR FROM THE GROUND WOULD I TYPICALLY PUT THE STARTER STRIP. AFTER THATS UP LEVEL, IM GOING TO HAVE PARTS AROUND THE GARAGE WHERE YOU CAN STILL SEE THE HOUSE WRAP BELOW THE STRIP. THE GAP VARIOUS AROUND THE GARAGE. WHAT COULD I DO TO FILL THAT IN?

  • Liked the tutorial.....

  • WoW, That was great vid really helped me with my repair. Very entertaining also. better than some of the TV DIY stuff, Thanks for the help.

  • I melted the vinyl siding on my house a couple of weeks ago. The job i had to do was slightly more complicated than this job but i used all the techniques shown in this video and it worked a treat. Vinyl siding is real cheap too. I recommend doing it yourself. watch this video, you cant go wrong. Thanks Dominick.

  • i make vinyl at my work thas where i work its a bitch work and hard to make vinyl

  • @fktheworld1 But what's your point ?

  • @DominickDiy my point is that i make vinyl and we ship it around the world

  • @DominickDiy

Hey Dom...great video, lots of good tips I had no clue about.

The problem I see on my end is...where can we actually get the Alcoa\Mastic siding? Most of the websites that provide it are for contractors and not consumers like us.

    thanks...

  • one of the best DIY presentations I've ever seen!! Thanks a lot!!

  • @rbaduge WOW, thanks a lot. I love to hear it. LOL

  • @cramasyt Thank you very much..

  • if ur using the zip tool for siding its easyer to begin in the middle of the peice

  • thanks for the help! Couldn't have even started with out your coaching.

  • Thanks buddy, great clear instructions, made perfect sense about the heat popping it out! Now our biggest problem is finding a ladder high enough.

  • @proudnewfather2008 Sure thing. I think my next video will be how to setup a ladder the right safe way. Glad I could help.

  • @DominickDiy if ur using the zip tool for siding its easier to begin in the middle of the piece...also a flat bar would be easier to pull the nails also the top piece you have bent could have permanent marks if u bend it to much..

  • Had some hail damage to my vinyl siding (small cracks/holes on edges) and this video explains everything I needed to know. Thanks for the complete start to finish "how to" on replacing select sections of siding. You da man!

  • @beesting26 Awesome, glad I could help

  • @ruizjo21 Thank you very much.

  • Very good! We're thinking about buying a house with siding challenges, it wasn't professionally installed. We may need work done on it and the roof as well. Thanks for the demo so we will know what to look for or what to ask when we look for contractors.

  • @tamiart2 Sure thing. You should read how to hire a contractor I have on my site.

  • EXCELLENT!! Very informative, this will come in handy as I need to replace a few pieces that are chipped and cracked. Keep up the good work!

  • Thank you thank you will do

  • one of the best videos i have found to show siding,, the method of installation, and tips when installing.

    im grateful.

    thanks...

  • Thank you so so much.

  • You're a pretty good speaker. Thanks for sharing this information.

  • I cannot believe i did the same thing to my house. TY for the instructions on how to fix it.

  • Puppy!!!

  • No that puppy is about 10 years old. You should see her sister (black lab) is just over 15

  • Nice vid, better shirt.

  • i have a question i have to side a house this week end and we've never done it before

do i start from the top or bottom or top

and how do i cut the stuff

    saw or knife?

  • Would always start from the bottom

  • i'd start in the phone book if i was you. lol

  • easy now

    you gotta learn some how

  • hey man awsome video but you forgot to mention that when you nail the siding on you sould hit the studs with the nails and maybe use a level so the siding is level and so when you get to the top piece it goes into the lock eaisly without streching it

  • DDYI- good vid. So would I be wasting time buying the siding tool? Also- does aluminum siding have the same locking mechanism as vinyl? Again- good vid- was facing a problem with mine and this helped- thanks- TAS

  • You mite spend more time finding the siding tool then anything. The is nice but it's really made for installing the siding rather then removing it.

Yes Aluminum is the same for the most part. But be very careful, it doesn't like to bend. Once bent, give it a new home, the garbage pail.

  • 4:03 LOL

    Nice vid!

  • Thank you very much..

  • How did you get new siding to match your old siding? Mine's 10 years old, and I don't know who installed it.

  • Good Job on this video. Very professional production quality. Very clearly and thoroughly explained. You should seriously have your own show, you have the right personality for it.

  • I get lots of compliments everyday.. But none like yours. Thank you very very much. And yes I would love to have my own show. One day maybe... I hope, lol... Thanks again..

    Regards... Dominick

  • I'm sure you've got alot of thank you comments, but your video really helped me understand how easy it is to do. Your dog is very cute @ 4:05 ... Thanks.

  • Yes I have, thank you. Yea I have four of them hairy things, lol.. Check out my site when you can for more good stuff..

  • Nice how-to! :)

    -CBC-

  • needed to remove a row of siding to check sill rot. Had NO idea how to do it. I Think now I can attempt it. I wonder if white siding put on 25 yrs ago will still be the same as replacement siding sold now.

  • White would be the one color that would fade the less but it would still be hard to match.

  • I sooo needed to know how to do this (bamboo growing underneath) - perfect instruction - thanks

  • Thank you.. Yea that bamboo can be something else..

  • very helpful. thanks.

  • glad I could help..

  • Thanks Dominic. Nice.

  • Anytime..

  • Thanks Dominic!!! very helpful.

  • Glad I could help, thank you..

  • Big help. Just bought our first grill. Guess you know what happened next.
