Avatar's screenplay was hammiy written and poor as Cameron's scripts usually are. I'm nitpicky about dialogue (which is why Woody Allen would be my favorite film maker) so that's a big thing for me. That aside, James Cameron is a brilliant visionary director with incredible storytelling ability- overall, Avatar was predictable when it came to its plot but technological masterpiece.
I first saw the movie two years ago, in 2010, with my dad. He took me to the movies as a treat and I wasn't really sure what to see so I decided to take a look at that and it was AWESOME. Unfortunately, I didn't get to see it in 3D but it was still pretty decent. I also remember that I kept on laying down the majority of the time.

This movie was so overrated. It had nice action, andd it was very different, the same way star wars was, but it is DEAD without the 3d effects. Just listen to the fans!! It's an experience to see it the theater (yes, I went and saw the IMAX 3D), but c'mon, people. The film is nothing but a visual experience. The script could have been written on a long weekend, first to last draft!
While this movie is great, it's story is so cliche and gets very boring at times. I mean we've seen this same plot a million times before, but the only difference is that this is blue aliens vs. the army. I remember going to see this movie just because of the hype, and being kind of disappointed. Obviously the effects were amazing, but the story was just alright. I'd prefer to watch something with effects that were just good, and a story that was amazing.

Avatar was a mediocre film with a tired allegory of the Native American tradgedy. Motion Capture is not new tech, though for some reason that seemed to be the hype. Beowulf was a much netter mo-cap movie and the story of Avatar SUCKED BAWLZ!!!!
@JFranzicles I realize Beowulf may have had a less archetypal storyline, but it's a straight up lie that in terms of visuals that Beowulf was better. James Cameron has definitely perfected the motion capture art so far, both because of the scenery and the movement of the character's mouths.

A predictible storyline but the mind-blowing effects stole it all; I learned a science fact- Superconducting material levitate when placed in a very high magnetic field.
What struck me most about this movie is its unusual depth. The analogy with how European settlers treated the Native Americans came through loud and clear. Not a bad love story, either, and the general is one of those characters you just love to hate.

Also, how did they get an audience rating of 10 when several people rated it at 7 or 8? By my math, it should have been an audience rating of 9 which still isn't bad...
Spectacular, Immersive, Escapist, Emotionally involving and the best film ever (in the cinema, not ever wouldn't make my top 10 to watch at home but in the cinema no.1 by a long way) Shame so many internet fanboys fell for the cult of the backlash. The irony of them calling the story unoriginal THEN ALL saying 'bad story' seems to have gone over their pretentious little heads. Bless. Astonishing. So rating? 10/10 in the cinema 8/10 DVD.
I'm a big Si-Fi fan.... and I still didn't like this movie very much at all. The effects were interesting, but the plot and story were just to bad. Maybe I might think better of it if I actually saw it in IMAX 3D istead of a regular HD TV, but I can be a major story critic, so if the story sucks in a movie or game, then the rest sucks to in my eyes. I've only seen this movie once, and I really feel like I never want to or have to see it again. Wether I get thumbs up or down, that's what I think.

It's an experience to see it the theater (yes, I went and saw the IMAX 3D), but c'mon, people. The film is nothing but a visual experience. The script could have been written on a long weekend, first to last draft!

While this movie is great, it's story is so cliche and gets very boring at times. I mean we've seen this same plot a million times before, but the only difference is that this is blue aliens vs. the army. Honestly, I think it's the hype and visuals that made this movie as famous as it still is today. I give it 6.9/10

I remember going to see this movie just because of the hype, and being kind of disappointed. Obviously the effects were amazing, but the story was just alright. I'd prefer to watch something with effects that were just good, and a story that was amazing.

Avatar was a mediocre film with a tired allegory of the Native American tradgedy. Motion Capture is not new tech, though for some reason that seemed to be the hype. Beowulf was a much netter mo-cap movie and the story of Avatar SUCKED BAWLZ!!!!

@JFranzicles I realize Beowulf may have had a less archetypal storyline, but it's a straight up lie that in terms of visuals that Beowulf was better. James Cameron has definitely perfected the motion capture art so far, both because of the scenery and the movement of the character's mouths.

This is WoW movie! Very simple story, but totaly different acting, action, fear factor... In my opinion, I think this is a perfectly acceptable romantic comedy. Great story that came up with the idea of friends with benefits :-). Watch it, I am sure thumbs will be up for this. It is at moovi.co.cc!

What struck me most about this movie is its unusual depth. The analogy with how European settlers treated the Native Americans came through loud and clear. Not a bad love story, either, and the general is one of those characters you just love to hate.

Then it sucks ass. If it only cost one tenth what it did it would be ok. But since it was so goddamn expensive it sucks ass. There is soooo many things humanity could do with 400 + million that would help society more than a movie about giant blue elves would.

Astounding visual effects and cgi world but very predictable storyline (zero surprises at all), lackluster acting and dialogue, and a bit too long.
I would give it a 10 for visuals and probably a 7 for acting/storyline so like a 8.5 over all...
Also, how did they get an audience rating of 10 when several people rated it at 7 or 8? By my math, it should have been an audience rating of 9 which still isn't bad...

Spectacular, Immersive, Escapist, Emotionally involving and the best film ever (in the cinema, not ever wouldn't make my top 10 to watch at home but in the cinema no.1 by a long way) Shame so many internet fanboys fell for the cult of the backlash. The irony of them calling the story unoriginal THEN ALL saying 'bad story' seems to have gone over their pretentious little heads. Bless. Astonishing. So rating? 10/10 in the cinema 8/10 DVD.

I'm a big Si-Fi fan.... and I still didn't like this movie very much at all. The effects were interesting, but the plot and story were just to bad. Maybe I might think better of it if I actually saw it in IMAX 3D istead of a regular HD TV, but I can be a major story critic, so if the story sucks in a movie or game, then the rest sucks to in my eyes. I've only seen this movie once, and I really feel like I never want to or have to see it again. Wether I get thumbs up or down, that's what I think.
