  • i like the description - like you planned it. Yeah just doing a faceplant on some cows..

  • Do you need a license to fly one

  • Yes, you need a license. But it's more about understanding the airspace that your flying in, understanding right of way rules so those flying around you, never crash into you and most of all learning how a hang glider handles in different conditions to insure your safety.Learn to fly with a qualified instructor and it will be fun, easy and it will take over your life !!!!

  • i watched 4minutes+ hoping to see girls getting hit...

  • Just returned from Newcastle and got video of his landing at Dixon park, I'll post it tonight. His comment was it wasn't a very good landing, but to top land in a litespeed RS within a few feet of where you intended with minimal control input is the pinnacle of aviation excellence.

  • Adam Parer is the gold standard on how to manage the energy state of a flex wing glider. If you look at any of his you tube videos, you'll understand what to be striving for..

  • I have seen his videos and yes they are very good ! Luckily i fly an Atos VQ and haven't flown a flex wing in 3 years. i sold the glider in this video in may 2009 !!

  • If you knew how to set up an approach and manage the energy state of the glider that wouldn't happen. You need to fly an intermediate glider unti you can set up an approach and manage the energy state of the glider.

  • PISS OFF !!! Maybe you should upload your own videos or maybe your to much of a pussy to actually fly !! This video was meant to be viewed on the funny side !

  • @Carbonkiwi i love your answer to this comment i get some dumb comments sometimes about my onealternative.us renewable energy as well. the funny thing is those idiots don't do nothing but post comments and waste time on a computer.

at least we are posting videos of stuff we do.

like the video and a good landing is one without damage or broken limbs i'm sure the cows had you distracted but you walked away congrats to that

don't mind the dumb asses they are just a waste of brainmatter

  • @Carbonkiwi Listen to good advice mate U17 got it spot on.

  • What a boring video zzzzz

  • ahaha very classy!! :) nice glider, im sure you have better landings when not surrounded by livestock

  • e velho assustando as vacas. ah ah ah ah ah ........

  • those were cows lol

  • I reaIIy hope to do that before I die. HopefuIIy not ON the day I die.

  • If it is your first hang glider go for something like a falcon 3 and take time to learn the many weather patterns and fly as many sites over at least 30 hours before you start getting on to hotter, faster gliders. Also go with what your instructor recommends as they'll know your abilities best.

  • UFO at 1.43, look at the black spot on the sun?

  • You misse the ribeye by just a fraction of a hair line!

  • wonder what the cows was thinking when you "arrived"

  • Comment removed

  • Whaaaaack!

  • วัววิ่งหนี 555

  • nice but better if shorter. the interesting part comes just after 3:40

  • That is hilarious how the cow CLEARED IT when she saw you coming!

  • Huge LZ... clear approach; what's with going long- cow fixation?

  • Holly cow! nice video & flight!

  • Lucked out there wasn't a cow pie right on that face plant! Great video. Oh, and any landing you can walk away from is a good landing.

  • Thanks mate & walking away without damage is even better. The right side of the A frame did hit a nice round green pie which did splatter right across my visor, glad i kept my visor down for landing !!!!

  • that looks fun its beatiful

  • atterri male ragazzo , non i puoi attaccare ai montanti così .... il delta non vola ma picchia ed ecco che ti schianti - ciao

  • is hang gliding u know sorta easy to lern and how much for a hang glider. This looks like a great way to fly

  • Hang gliding is an awesome way to fly. Learning is easy through a school / instructor who will probably take you tandem first to get a feeling for it. Not sure of the costs in AUS but in NZ you can be totally set up ( helmet, instruments, harness, glider) 2nd hand for about $ 3500 or new for $6,500.

  • @Carbonkiwi wow thats pretty cheap!! I live in AUS so yeh it prob be about the same thanks for the info :D I might do this when im older for a hobby

  • what's the song called?

  • The song is called One Thing............by Finger Eleven.

  • Maybe you should upload some videos yourself as you seem to be absolutely perfect. My approach is usually very good, but every now and then i cock it up, but at least i have the guts to upload it. That is the main LZ as this is NZ and you can't just land anywhere in this valley.

  • The pilot who landed before me landed hard and bent a DT !!! As for getting a softer glider NO CHANCE !!! Anyway i sold that ukranian heap of junk and got a rigid, much better !!!!!!

  • Hahah. It was funny to see those cows take off! Lol. Too bad about the crash...haha probably the most movement the cows have done all year. Hahaha.

  • Thats the problem with recording your flights! you have to share your faceplants with the world on youtube afterwards >: D

  • It's good to share and it's even better to be able to laugh at yourself when you stuff it up !!!

  • According to Denis Pagen's book it is better to land on cows than on horses :-) Cool video.

  • Thanks !!!

  • hahahahah! awesome faceplant! :D kind of made my day!

I don't mean to be... mean, but it was quite awesome. The cows add to the crash value :D

  • No worries mate, glad you enjoyed it. My latest video i do a similar landing in the same paddock but with no cows !!!!

  • You have a whole country to land on, and you land on a bunch of cows. I thought Kiwis prefer to land on sheep!Loved the video.

  • Thanks mate !!! Fancy an ausi mentioning sheep !!!!!

  • hey carbon kiwi! i just uploaded the ground perspective video of your landing. my glider in background of your launch. my vid isn't great quality but hope you enjoy it. at least you got a better flight than me, i took off after you and landed before you!

  • Thanks for the other video, easy to see me popping my nose when i transfer to my uprights and it was all over from there. As i remember that day was very scratchy and light and for once i out climbed almost everbody.......... a rare event :-)) !!!!!

  • @Carbonkiwi yes you did seem to get a bit of a stick thermal early on final, but i think the problem was just before that with the steep turn into final generating too much energy into the glider. you did well to stay up that day, think it could me gliding under you at 1.15minutes, remember about 3 of you were working something over that halfway paddock and i couldn't connect, i had a 20minute scratch to landing.

  • Hang gliding is way more safer then being a cow! :D

From now on,cows will show a big respect for you!:D

I like your videos sir!!!! :)

  • If only cows would show me more respect as i milk the lovely creatures everyday !!!

It's awesome you like my videos mate, thanks !!!

  • How safe is this sport, normally? I mean, assuming precaution on the pilots part, and cow free fields. Is there anything that can go seriously wrong, that is completely out of your control. Or is it like snowboarding, mountain biking, etc; where it's as safe as you make it?

  • The sport is safe, providing your equipment passes it's yearly checks and you replace parts when they are due. You understand the weather conditions and are willing to back off when conditions aren't right and a little extra speed is always a good thing. Hang glider crashes are 95 % pilot error as hang gliders fly fine on their own.

  • i bet the cows thought WTF is that, run!

  • Hey! Cool Vid :-) After Landing a big BBQ with fresh Steaks ??

    Manni

  • Thanks Manni, luckily for them dairy cows don't make good steaks a bit on the tough side especially after i have chased them around the landing paddock !!!

  • jajaja he scared all the cows

  • cool vid loved it. i realy want to do this so bad i would by one if i had enough money whitch will be never cause allways skint. or well i can dream.

  • Why dream, hang gliding is not expensive....at first until you become addicted then you can spend heaps on all the bells and whistles.

  • @83ticker Are you in school? It's not expensive...

  • You have to learn to fly with an instructor and it is not expensive. Once you have bought all your equipment it is very cheap.

  • @theantiantichrist no im not in school. i know its not expensive for what it is but i realy am a poor guy. all my money goes on my home bills and the kids. after that im left with out a penny to scatch my behind with lol. i hope to save up and get one some day hopefully but untill then i,ll keep looking up and wishing. take care.

  • @83ticker Ah. Maybe you should be, then. Or out fighting for socialism...

  • Moove, I geddit!

  • Dude, glad you weren't hurt. A lot of learning points in there...

  • I got motion sick watching this pilot ocillate in the control bar while thermalling. He probably isn't even aware he's doing it.

  • I'm aware of myself constantly moving in the A frame especially as it was a light day with an inversion and very broken thermals. The thermals were small, punchy and very shifty. Move with it or lose it !!!!!!!!!

  • @jcoyier what is your beef?

  • Excellent!

Is that a Lightspeed? I just realized you're flying the same colors as me too. Let me know if you ever want to sell your harness. I'd take it off your hands if it fits. :)

  • Thanks, No the glider is an aeros combat L 13, new in 2007 but sold it when i bought my atos vq. Thanks for the offer on my harness but i love it, as it is super comfortable and relable :-))

  • Cool video! I can hear the calf now - "Mom, tell us about the time the big blue bird tried to take you away!"

  • great vid, Beef almost on the menu

  • Thanks.

  • nice vid

  • thanks !!!

  • jejejeje problems it´s cows

  • my instructor always said good aproaches lead to good landings. your aproach was not good. try a constant aspect aproach

  • Whatever mate, it is a tight paddock made tighter by the fact cattle were being strip grazed up it !!!! Try landing a topless glider in light winds in a small paddock with 40 foot trees at the base end and then we will see how perfect your approaches are !!!!!!

  • all im saying is you fly to the bottom end make steep turn and go for it and overshoot. if what you say is true there would be a video the same from everyone who flew that way. you could have done a constant aspect. the topless pilots in my club spot land in nill wind this way. still fun video thanks for posting and happy flying to you. i've landed like this once but with broken uprights though the cows were a school of trainee paraglider pilots. see them dive for cover,

  • How did you not do your uprights! Got a hard head too by the looks of it, wobbly but walking... most of us done that and worse, glad your okay!

  • Cheers, a lot of luck and a tiny dash of skill saved my uprights :-) .

  • Hi there mate am studing my commercial pilots lic. at ardmore but am very keen to give hang gliding a go.... were do i go for lessons and were do i buy a HG? any tips would be great

  • Mmmm! It's something i haven't done ...yet

  • You started to flare and then took it back... Not once, but twice... Once you start to flare, that's it, flare! If it's too early (which this wasn't), then just hold it out. And keep your feet back, throwing them forward takes the flare away again. Hey, that makes 3 times you flared and then unflared.

  • Yep, i'v got a bit of a bad habit of 'pumping' when i'm in ground effect, sort of my way of feeling the glider. I actually put my feet forward to get over the electric fence, in doing so i know i sent the center of gravity forwards, but at least i didn't get a 5,000 volt BOOT off the fence !!!!!

  • Sorry, I didn't notice the fence. I see it now, but Youtube isn't quite like being there! Good moooove, better than clipping the fence!

  • ahaha that suit thing looks like a cocoon

but i really want to try hangliding i have a freind that does it and it seems like soo much fun too

  • So that's not really a visor, but a scat shield? Glad you didn't take out a downtube.

  • Very useful visors, pity they don't come with wiper blades !!!

  • Awesome vid! Now that's how to herd a bunch of cattle! Love flyin' in shorts too!

  • Thanks!! Yep, the cows weren't to happy with my sudden arrival !!!!

  • Well they moved.. eventually!

Great vid & camera angle. Next time make your corners not as steep (gives less energy retention) and bring a HORN.

  • Thankyou, there is extra energy retention with the steep turn but it's also a fantastic way to lose heaps of height quickly. I just made my turn a little to early as another glider was on final also.

  • WHEW! Missed that PIE by inches! Great vid!

  • Cheers. I didn't miss the PIE it was splattered across my visor!!!

  • yup, those Combats don't want to come out of the sky. They just keep on gliding, and gliding, and gliding.... Good job though.

  • Thanks. Yep they glide, but helps if i don't pop the nose when i'm transferring to my uprights.

  • Well it took you long enough to figure out the quick to get those cows into your milking shed !!!!
