if this is THE wedge then its a pussy ass day. Slater is a badass but this looks like waimea on a samll day. this wave doesnt peak. its maybe 8'-10' in most shots and the peel is too neat. the wedge on a truly challenging day is so much uglier. i would urge Slater to come back on a strong west, southwest swell like July 25th 2009. then we'd see what the big man could do for real.

By the way, there are plenty of video's of the Wedge of people going right. This is a small day that breaks a bit farther from the Wedge's rock jetty. This is around 2001 when Slater was using a replica of his 1990 Body Glove Surbout winning board. The right CAN be a very short barrel, same thing at Sebastian, yet Sebastian has lefts that can also sidewind back towards the jetty down at 2nd and 3rd peak. The wedge is much more of a refracting wave becuase of the engineering and swell direction.
Why do people not agree that this is THE Wedge at Newport?? The giveaway is the tapered sidewinding takeoff on a 1' wave that slings him into a 4'-5' barrel left. The wedge is such a refracting wave that it takes the power of the wave hitting off the jetty, joined be the next wave, and stands it up into a heavy A-frame wedge. Seb. Inlet in Fla is just a tamer version that is more surfable. Slater cought Wedge on a small, glassy, more surfable day but it does look like it's the real Wedge.

I have seen people go right although it is a rarity, It's is alot like Sebastian as in the left next to the slingshot peak at the jetty is nearly unsurfable as it closes out into itself.
