I read a very good biography of General Vlassov, written by a German army translator who served as Vlassov's interpreter and personal aide.

He paints an interesting, vivid picture of Vlassov; he was absolutely NOT a national socialist. He was a communist until 1941. He was ideologically closer to the Social Revolutionaries than to monarchists. He was also not an anti-Semite; he argued that Stalin killed most Jewish communists. Ukrainian POA colonel Mileti Zykov was Jewish, murdered by the SS.

WWII may have been bound to happen before molotov ribbentrop but the pact was the catalyst that started WW II. As for those lands that were never part of Russia - you mean the tiny part of Bukovina, right? WW2 may have been bound to happen before the pact? And not just free the POWs, but reverse the policies of Stalinism: abolish collective farms, restore privatization of agriculture and trade, recocgnise the independence of the non-Russian nations (Ukraine, Belarus, Baltic States, etc...)and dispose of the Nazi racist racial theories. Now that would have been clever, not to mention wiser and prudent.

A war of expansion by undermining the enemy's system. The greatest weakness of Germany, ironically, was the racist totalitarian ideology. Had the Germany of WWII been the Germany of WWI where pragmatism influenced policy rather than ideology then the outcome would have been different.

If if's and but's... well, you should know how this goes. Basically, the Nazi racism didn't just appear - such racism was very common in Europe, as it was used to ideologically explain colonialism. The war the Nazi's fought in the East was a colonial war. But yeah, very theoretically, the Nazi's could've won the war. They could've won it even while being nazis - 1941 was a close call. Had the Germans continued to expand their army in 1941 as opposed to just reinforcing - than who knows...

The name of the General of the pro-German Volunteer Formations is not 'Kreuzinger' but Ernst August Köstring. And General Wlassow was not merely anti-stalinist, he was also anti-Marxist and wanted to create a new national home Russia without communists. He was not antisemitic though.

The defender of Moscow joins the Germans. Good for him. It seems that not all Russians were soviet lackeys and boot lickers of Stalin. So much for the myth of the unanimous struggle of the soviet peoples against fascism.

Yeah, we had the standart number of traitors and such. However, most people did struggle against fascism. The problem at the time was that Stalin was leading the national effort against the genocidal nazi invadors, so being anti-Stalin during that time is same as being anti-Russian.
