@K4PAD - Pete, I have had a lot of questions about this antenna so I will make a promise to do a focused video and detailed assembly instructions . . . unfortunately I glued this one together before shooting some photos . . . I was a bit anxious to get on 6! ;-)
Love the 857. Got one in the school shack and I love it. Need to get a 6 meter antenna up soon so I can have some fun. Beacons will let you know when the band is open. :)
Hey, do you know of any single band 6 meter rigs for sale anymore? MFJ used to have a bear bones one.. I really want to get into 6 meters but not wanting to buy another HF rig as my HF rig does not have 6 meters.
As a technician 6-meters is definitely my favorite band. I love how it feels like an HF band. Hopefully next weekend I will be upgrading from technician to general so I will have HF at my disposal for better long range communication. Just curious, what is the longest QSO you have made on 6?
I never seen 6m in action like this. pretty cool. Never thought it had this much long haul. Is vertical polarization always used like this for long haul?
Awesome David. I remember you mentioning a QSO in Arizona in one of your other vids. Do you remember where about? And yes.. PLEASE keep me posted if you plan on traveling here to AZ. Stay safe up there!
Hey Doc! KF7ETX - that's a novice class callsign, right? Is novice class allowed on 6 meters in the US? Wish that would be legal here in Germany, too..
@salat nah - answering myself: novice class seems to be no more - technician is the new "entry" class. I looks as my German "CEPT Novice class" corresponds to the "US General" - bu no 6 meters for me here in DL though. Well, just another reason for a vacation in the US :)
@john762x39 - Thanks . . . that error has been pointed out a number of times. Unfortunately I have no way to correct the video at this time. I appreciate your attention to detail.
Looks like you are having lots of fun with 6 meters. If you like that sort of action then you will love HF when you get your upgrade to general. There are contests practically every weekend. And talking half way around the world to countries you've never heard of before with 100 watts and a piece of wire up in a tree is definitely a thrill. Now go to the ham whisperer's page and get to studying. The question pool changes at the end of the month, so you'd better hurry.
That looks really neat i need to make a six meter antenna i put up a g5rv and went on 40 and 80 and i have to tell you it was neat making contact across the pond on digital i got one in Spain got my gear ready for field day and my camera packed with the 2 cannon launcher one is co2 and the other is compressed air (the co2 runs near 550 psi :) hope to hear you on the air (also i might put up a live stream where im setting up)
Dont forget guys that the bCurrent Tech and General Question Pool ends June 31st and a new one starts 07-01-2011. I have heard it is not a drastic change. Thought I would let you know. Fortunately, EXTRA has another year with existing pool

@Iridium242 - Boy, I would have to do some scouting around the internet to answer that :-)
I understand the concern as some of these rigs are very spendy for sure.

@Iridium242 Try the Alinco DR-06T. Ther run around $280 new.

Hello, I think you you have a typo in that link. It should be vhfdx dot info and not .com. The dot com page is something different.
That's a nice antenna you built by the way. I've seen some you can buy like that but nothing beats something you built.
