'You think I'm pathetic'.... dude, you are! Ps: I adore that movie, we are all pathetics in some ways, and I don't think this movie was a trial againts or pro women, but just how humans can be low, and how this 'low' is somehow human, and that morality is sometimes turned upside down to fit our inner envy as our will. Situations that are not 'correct' but is shown tu be understandable, don't mistake, I did'nt write acceptable but understadable! :)
The thing is, women know what they want. They wan't a guy who is attractive, has lot's of money and they are attracted to what guy's can do for them, how they can benefit from them and how they can use them to feel better about themselves.
The truth, however, is women are selfish, insecure, cold hearted, never fucking happy, materialistic piece's of shit and are the downfall of the human race.
Thumb's up if the person you once loved didn't love you for you.
@poppunk4life i would be inclined to agree with you, wouldn't i have met plenty of men who are basically the same way. of course i don't have the same experience with men as with women but i have gotten to know enough about men that i can quite confidently say that even IF there are not as many shitty men out there, there sure still are plenty who are just as selfish, shallow and whatever else. these are more characteristics of the "mass", the "normal people" than men/women.
I remember seeing an interview with Phil Hartman where he talked about how talented Jon Lovitz is - he gave the impression that he saw Lovitz as the most talented person he worked with on SNL (although he didn't actually come out and say that).
While I always though Lovitz was pretty funny, I didn't understand why someone would feel THAT strongly about his comedic acting ability.....until I saw this scene.
@fidelio1980 : I totally agree: I always found him quite ok, but he always seems to be in quite mediocre movies and sitcoms. What he does here, is absolutely briliant. He should get cast for more stuff like this, where he can show how talented he really is. This also has to be one of the best movies in so many ways: simply genius.
I'll cry until you grow some balls, maybe we can talk then. What's funny is that you're getting off on other's misery. What's happening there? Who hurt you so bad you gotta lash out? I'll cry for you in the mean time. I'm sure no character could be crafted to be as pathetic as you my friend. Eat doodoo in silence. Love Jones :)
Poor Jon Lovitz, i've never seen him in a serious role. He's good. It's hard to know who's side to be on. You're just glad to be an observer. And not THEM. How gut-wrenchingly awful. This is what we're afraid of. Rejection. Why does life hurt so much? At least Jon's character got out for GOOD. Lucky ....sob
@joneschic04 fuck you loser, this shit is fucking funny. If you're gonna go all emo about it, maybe you should just stfu and go sit in a corner and cry about the world's misery, pansy!
I've liked the movie a lot. Although it's quite heavy, it's also REALLY funny and entertaining - without being cynical. (In European films that deal with such "heavy subjects" you're often just depressed after having watched them.)
This intro is so funny - and you understand, that BOTH are suffering and will be wounded and defeated after it. It's like a "Leitmotiv".
I agree, this is a truly classic opening sequence. I usually cant stand Lovitz, but he's absolutely perfect in this bit. You almost feel sorry for the poor schlub, but he gets the last bitter laugh at her expense. A+
I just saw this last night, and the first thing I thought of after it finished was "I hope someone uploaded that first scene on YouTube. Thanks for the upload, what a great opening.
terrific opening scene... Lovitz's speech at the end pretty much sum up the feelings of any guy who has been dumped on for his looks rather than for who he is as a person
This is special, a really great scene, I've got an alternative version of the script, but this is so much better, shorter and much more to the point. It's such a great scene, but I just feel that Jon Lovitz is 'pushing' just a little bit.
