I love the Dharma Initiative storyline on Lost: might just be my favourite. There's something so eerily appealing about a group of flowerchild scientists going off to a mysterious island to conduct shady experiments behind a quaint façade, only to end up mass murdered by weird "locals"... it's all just so inherently and delightfully creepy, even without the "God Loves You As He Loves Jacob" frames - awesome, but what is up with that?? - randomly inserted in otherwise unrelated footage.

The numbers are supposed to have been answered on the ARG "the Valenzetti equation"- a mathematician put together this equation that predicts the exact date of mankinds extinction and the work on the island was trying to change it. It needs to be introduced into the main show and should be in season 6

The Casimir Effect itself is a force described in quantum physics. You don't really need to understand the force itself, because its application in Lost is apparently similar to how it is used in other fiction.
