I'm pretty happy with this one since i'm a college student. No major problems, adequate power. The best and most important part is its very efficient. I agree without a doubt that the 3800 is VERY reliable, but it is too much motor for my needs.
the car kinda sat for 5+ years, i dont plan on putting it on the road anytime soon but i do want to start it up like once a week to make sure everythings good.
should i be aware of anything or change anything for just running hte engine?
My dad used to have an 89 too. Garnet red limited with silver rockers and wire wheels. burgundy leather interior too. It looked fantastic, but unfortunately it didn't hold up so well.
I think it was just built on a Friday. It came from the factory with a sporadically functional instrument cluster and a disconnected horn. In the first 6 months the drivers seat ripped (even with extra cost leather) and the fuel gauge went out. It blew a head gasket at 25,000 mi, and was plagued with various electrical problems throughout its life. Everything from alternators to computers was eventually replaced.
I still loved the car. It was dang sharp, and really stood out. If I could have a (semi) reliable one, I'd love to own one myself. I'm still a big GM fan, especially since they have a much higher commitment to quality now, and are building world class products.
Your 86 Park Ave. looks like a great candidate for some fixing, provided that it won't require $7,500 worth of work. It did look a bit rusty underneath, but considering it has the ultra-reliable 3800 v6, a great interior, no body rust, and all the major stuff works, I think it'll give you many more years of faithful service.
I have the regal classic Custom
