Shel did write children's books, considered 2nd best behind Dr. Suess books. Shel was also a cartoonist for playboy magazine and wrote alot of Dr. Hook song's. Sylvia' Mother is based on a true story in Shel's life. Cover of The Rolling Stones was Shel's idea to get Dr. Hook on the Cover of Rolling Stones Magazine. It worked in a way, they had cartoon pictures of Dr. Hook on one issue

you are totally correct. shel preformed it first. his version is on shel silverstein his words mis music his friends a great album. i had to do a report on him for school. he fucking ROCKS!!!!!! that album has a lot of his music on it.
