Man, nice find! Heard rumors of this scene but didn't believe would actually get to see it. Mickey Rourke with a Springfield 03 across his shoulders - fark yeah
I don't understand why Malick deleted this scene. Dumbfounding. Mickey Rourke is brilliant here: flawless subtlety matched with overflowing realism. And Jim Caviezel's no slouch, either.
@mharrin5507 I'll tell you why. He pissed somebody off. He was always doing it. I didn't even know Mickey was part of this movie until now. Poor bastard pissed somebody off.
mickey rourke What role, he worked in the film The Thin Red Line?, perhaps it was a precision shooter or sniper U.S. Army or U.S. Marines, remember that the film is set in the Battle of Guadalcanal and was soldiers and Marines and I think there were more Marines on Guadalcanal U.S. soldiers
it's a great performance and i'm glad it's in the criterion dvd but i could see why malick cut it because it didn't really fit with the film. it's just unfortunate that mickey's performance was cut but that's what happens when you work with malick.
@dachefffkoch I read the screenplay. After deleted scene named "Witt and Storm Drunk" next text: STORM Don't even know that you exist. They're going to eat you up and have you for dinner. (shouting after him) Jackass! Briar! And fuck your Aunt Kay! WITT (to himself, spitting) Cook!
@dachefffkoch He wasn't a POW. He was a burned out sniper. Probably killed people, alot of people and it didn't sit right with his psyche. Notice how quick he was to ask about Witt's life, some semblance of normalcy. He needed that. Needed that to forget the horror.
i want to see all cut scenes from this movie..with Billy Bob Thornton, Martin Sheen, Gary Oldman, Bill Pullman, Lukas Haas, Jason Patric, Viggo Mortensen..
Nice fourth wall tap there by Mickey Rourke when he spikes the camera. "I see you." (Points to audience) "You the one with the kind eyes." (Pan to Witt)
Mickey: I remember you. Ah, you the one with the kind eyes. Witt: It was mining country(?) Mickey: You miss it? Witt: Oh yeah. Mickey: What do you miss? Witt: I miss my home in (can make it out) county. Mickey: Bet you got a lot of friends, huh? Witt: I miss 'em, I miss my family Mickey: You got a big family? Witt: When are you going home? Mickey: What does it take not to burn you out? (anaudiable) motherfucker! Got a headache (inaudiable) they keep hitting me in the head.
Mickey: And I just, I'm supposed to stand up, sit up straight, stand up straight and be quiet. I have something I gotta say.
Me: Hope thats of some help to you, thanks for uploading this amazing scene, just after watching the movie, AGAIN, its utterly amazing! Cant wait for Mallicks latest, 'The Tree of Life'.
the only time ive seen mickey actually sounding and looking human

@thevoid99 Unless the scene got cut because Rourke made things hell for Malick.
KleWdSide 3 months ago
@KleWdSide actually, rourke was quite pleasant with malick and felt that he did some of his best work until he learned that it got cut.

Witt goes off in solitary splendor toward the line. Storm
watches until he disappears from sight, then kissing his
wounded hand and laughing with delight, he does a little jig.
A long column of troops winds through the grassy field ahead
of Witt. Trucks, jeeps, a tank. He catches a ride on a truck.

EXT. JUNGLE (MOWBRAY/GUADALCANAL)- DAY
Witt is walking down a road through the jungle, humming to
himself, when he hears the SNAP of a spent bullet in leaves
overhead. He stops and looks up. There is the faint, angry
WHIRR of a second bullet. He looks up and down. He is quite
alone here, exposed and vulnerable.

EXT. JUNGLE (OTHER ANGLES) - DAY
He sees a group of flying foxes, stirring uneasily in their
roost. He sees a stranger fig, choking the life out of a tall
hardwood. The grass about him throbs with CRICKETS. He feels
the cold presence of fear, like someone standing behind him.
He could still turn back. His eyes glisten. Now MUSIC comes
in, like a call of summoning love.
Further up the road he encounters a Marine SNIPER (MICKEY ROURKE)
Only it
