  • I read that Fumie left the Olympics in tears that year...not because she was angry or throwing a fit...but because she was all but forgotten and ignored....this is the first time I have ever seen this video and she's fabulous....it doesn't show the scores but from the rest of the comments on the forum it really does seem way under scored...that one jump alone covered so much ice and still came off as artistic and flowing...

  • ok how did this get 7th and not something higher?

  • is the layback spin the spin done at around 0:55 to 1:02?

  • @charizianne yes it is a layback spin.

  • She should have been in 3th place i think

  • Sarah is a fat cow that underrotates all her jumps and has no artistic sense whatsoever, she should have been last place, along with that flutzing whore Kwan, Fumie should have gotten the OGM!

  • @SquirrelTrapper I think we know what you eat with that mouth.

  • When I rewatch this event, I just have to say thank god for the new scoring system. It is far from perfect, but it's so much better than 6.0 for those competitions where everyone is ON!

  • Technically Fumie's jumps were better than Sasha's though Sasha has better artistry. Though try putting Sasha and Fumie together and see what you'll get.

  • @USAGymnast She was not better than Sarah Hughes in this SP. Sarah was superior in her spins, choreograhy and line. Maybe Sarah conceded the Lutz to her but thats it. Sarah deserved fourth place in the SP.

  • @metsdudenj The only spin Sarah did better was the layback. Her flying camel was slow and weak and Fumie did the death drop which is harder and did it much better. Her combination spin was also better. All her jumps were better than Sarahs, not just the lutz which was much better. The layback and spiral sequence are the only elements Sarah did better. And artistically Sarah wasnt better either, her Ave Maria interpretation was weaker, she was slow, and her posture is just as suspect.

  • Well, Lets see, that short program wasn't really judged correctly. Michelle Kwan and Irina Slutskaya were the correct two but they should have been in opposite positions. Then Sasha Cohen had a big splash impressing most of the judges. 3rd Place was well deserved. 4th place was really wrong though Sarah Hughes was placed too high. And there seemed to be a few performances that were underscored like Fumie Suguri, Jennifer Robinson, Silvia Fontana Three great performers w/style.

  • that is just SO good. i wish she'd have had better luck at those games.

  • What a nice response from the crowd, too. Very smart to end with that terrific back scratch spin. She definitely should have been 5th after this segment, but where does anyone think would have placed if she had skated in the final group? Her only real mistake in the long was doubling a planned triple loop, so I can see her getting 4th because Sasha fell. But I don't think she would have moved into the medals. 5th was still a great result for her.

  • Very enjoyable! Loved it!

  • I am late in this reply. I should have said something before about that layback. iheartskating is right, it's gorgeous. I haven't changed my mind about where she stood in the rankings, but she's a beautiful skater.

  • @dylanvalente I disagree. That layback was not arched or turned out. She should have taken a lesson from Sarah or Sasha on that move.

  • @metsdudenj You're right. But it was still better than what most of the women were doing at the time: better, for instance, than Butyrskaya's. Unfortunately, Suguri switched it to an even weaker position in the following season, with the free leg bent at the knee and the foot hanging low.

  • What a great SP for her. All of the elements as well as the choreography and the music all worked well. Even the snap on that death drop was fantastic.

In retrospect, she appeared to have peaked around this season and the subsequent season. It is a pity her coaching/training situations seem to have distracted her since then and she hasn't really gotten back where she was.

  • Good performance, but I think it's going too far to say on par with the top three or so. Notice the slight awkwardness on the double toe, and the same on the landing of the flip; the just-adequate spiral sequence. These little things matter in such a strong field. Still, I think 5th would have been a more appropriate finish for her after this portion.

  • robbed of a medal. HATED MUCH??!

those judges prob. had it all planned out in their heads.

  • solid. very beautiful performance.

  • 章枝さん!あなたはきれいです!すごい!

  • for me it is one of the best short program fom a woman, i have ever seeen!

  • yes :)

  • Wow! she should have made it to the top 6 and she came in 7th place after this performance. How unfortunate.

  • Yeah, it really sucks. She should have been in 4th place with this performance.

  • seventh!? what on earth were those judges smoking?

  • @cutelilpooky Weed or cigarettes? LOL....I'd like to think so.

  • Brilliant. It's been a while since I've seen this. Thank you for posting it!
