Visit the UK and you'll see what happens when you do not consider race in university admissions. There are about 30 black students in all of Oxford. Even qualified students feel they don't have a chance and don't even bother to apply. Without affirmative action institutions of education, commerce, and governance become bastions of lingering prejudice.
Current Affirmative Action policies harm poor Asian Americans and poor Whites because they look at race not income level. If all races are to be truly equal, minorities need to accept the fact that no one will be discriminating FOR or against them. When we are all equal, diversity will come naturally.
I am believe that the current state of many blacks in the United States is due directly to their ancestor’s participation in slavery. There are times when the desired outcome of a policy is worthy enough to impose a cost on specific society members for the benefit of others. Because affirmative action is instituted at an irrevocable cost to some, it must be conceived and implemented so that it is most likely to have the desired effect and yet minimize the expense paid. I am still unconvinced.
GRADES, AND YOUR SCHOOL PERFORMANCE SHOULD DETERMINE YOUR ENTRANCE INTO UNIVERSITIES NOT RACE!!!, THE CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT IS OVER, YOU ARE ALREADY HAVE THE SAME BENEFITS AS US, STOP TRYING TO ROB US OF OUR FREEDOM, THE GOVERNMENT LITERALLY HAS TO HOLD WHITES BACK TO BLACKS CAN SUCCEED IT IS SO GOD DAMN PATHETIC!!!
@vangadi78 It is hard for them to score high when they are in low income schools that try to prepare them for the work force, while white suburban schools prepare the kids for college. It is also hard for black to score higher when they are put into lower classes than their white counterparts WITH higher grades and test scores through public school. Blacks pay more for housing which means less for tutors. Also 2 legacy students get in per black. Rich white okay but black then it is a problem?
@GozzyWozzy Wait i'm white & i didnt go to suburban schools, i went to schools in the inner city. My parents arent on drugs, both went to college but together their combined income was only 48k growing up... i'm not for legacy programs thats a different issue but how is it fair for me to be X out because i'm but poor? The only whites who suffer from this are poor whites. Rich people of ANY color have it easy in this country. Your racist comments are sicking.
I think affirmative action is counter productive. The real problem is not race, it's poverty. Don't reinforce the incorrect psychology that the problem is racial.
Fix our school system starting at grade school by changing how we fund schools - all children should leave school educated, regardless of local affluence. All children absolutely need proper nutrition. Give them these two things and kids can make their own life. Don't make them slaves to later favors, make them powerful.
Race should be considered in the admissions process because institutional racism still prevents people of color from having equal access to college and other educational activities.
@leftofcollegestation Affirmative action in admissions will cause colleges to admit unqualified people into the college. Those people will not make through college and end up droping out. When affirmative action is used the main victims are Asians not whites. Affirmative action discrimates against lower class whites.
Despite the good intentions of affirmative action, it still treats minorities different than whites. Minorities just want to be treated equally to whites.

affirmative action counter balances white privilege. Once white privilege is no longer an issue, we can get rid of affirmative action.

Affirmative action is a racist concept! It basically suggests that African Americans and Hispanics can't score high enough to get into college.
