Our society accepts that men are going to sleep with other women, they have child support laws to let men know to financially take care of their children or even visitation rights. But it is much more healthy for a child to have a two parent home, so if polygamy were in to play children can have their mother and father together.

This is not polygamy (many marriages), it is more precise to call it polygyny (many women). Or monoandry (only one man), as I call it. Polygyny is about denying women the privilege to have several spouses. Almost like monogamy, with other words, just unfair. Polygyny might be a nice substitute when you are in lack of a good welfare state, but I think that when you are so conservative that women can't work, it could have been nice to have several husbands, so more money! :D

I think you misunderstood, my statement was not against polygamy per se, but I am against a system that does not allow women the same civil rights as men.

If polygamy is to be allowed, then women should also be offered the same rights to take on multiple spouses. It does not matter whether any individual in particular exercises the full extent of their rights, (they can choose 0 spouses if they want!) but it is the fact that that option exists equally for all that matters.

It's good that you specified in your 2nd to last comment, that when the SYSTEM (religion, etc) reinforces unequal rights rather than an individual. I say this because there may be a situation where a wife agreed with her husband to bring in other women to be wives, but then she later wants to bring in another man and the husband disagrees. This is not a practice of unequal rights by the husband becuz equal rights should be dependent on rights that are good or at least most fair.

You don't want to create a condition where someone UNiLATERALLY decides to bring in other partners without the consent of ALL adults involved. Otherwise, not everyone is getting the spouse or polygamy they want and that would inevitably lead to friction and deteriorate the relationship. In this case, equal rights should be dependent on ALL spouses having a say and being able to act on the choice when ALL spouses agree. Of course, there's always the option to divorce and remarry.

But some women want other wives and don't want other husbands, so in this case there is no double standard since the wives would be getting what they want. I've been extensively researching polygamy recently, and the more I learn about the practice, the harder it is to remain purely objective about it. Even if the relationship between husband and wives is modern, with no fundamentalist abuse involved, the bottom line is that daughters in the relationships are being taught that they need to share a man's love with other women.

Polygamy is not compulsory in Judaism, and is not medically advisable.

You don't need a co - wife to provide the services you are receiving, other family members could provide it.

However, and unfortunately not every family is as supportive as yours. Other families do not help at all nor get along. One quick example is the absent father i.e. she was good enough for sex but not good enough to mary the girl kind of guy. So, yes, ideally what you say is correct and desirable. @reuscmar Since nearly 50% of American marriages end in divorce I'd say the current legal structure is a complete failure. It's time to take back the power to define marriage from the government! And I definitely don't want our government involved in deciding what religions are too "extreme".
