@psylense0 You said what I wanted to say :-) Bill Laswell brought the drums and bass out in this, with no disrespect to Teo because I also love the original.
@OhNoItsGojira - see the video image, it's from Bill Laswell's remix album of electric-era Miles, kinda re-doing what Ted Macero did when he assembled these albums in the studio in the first place. Agreed, though, this version isn't as good.
@OhNoItsGojira teo macero did those original versions and apparently the bill laswell versions are more true to what actually happened in the studio. macero would basically take the tapes of various recordings and blend together different versions until Miles was satisfied.
wow listening to it I get my own imagery that your in this exotic metallic strip joint, the the women entertaining on stage appear to be made of silver as they stand in front of a glowing red wall thats shrouded by fence like walls. As they move along you do to. Real Groovy
@Frisbieinstein It's not Laswell. He himself said that he didn't add a note to any of this music - he just added some FX to what's on the master. It's Henderson on bass. I still prefer the version that's on "Get Up With It" tho..that's personal preference. What Laswell did with this piece is fantastic. He made more "sense" of it. The chaos is what I like about the original though!!
I love this remix, I think the drums are brought out more. Al Foster is the star of this for me, the rhythm he plays in the midst of the organ, guitars, tablas just gives it so much EDGE. But much credit to Michael Henderson for the bass. It's still a new music! :-)
i dont really care but right now youre "paying" in time and hassle, and you dont even know if its gonna work out in the end. you can have the song instantly in good quality for an amout of chump change you would hardly even bother picking up if you found it lying in the street.
Great mix, but it hardly sounds that different from the original. Miles actually used a fair amount of electronics in this period.
Also, Miles played organ on this track - never trumpet. Supposedly, he looked pretty demonic when they played it, too. He would look over from the organ at the other musicians with this sinister look, but he was only trying to cue they when to stop/start and shit like that.
Great music!!!

Strange mix. Not the "Rated X" from "Get Up With It." I like that versions inclusion of the organ more.
