Rocking with the Roots can be the BEST thing SOMETIMES. Saw Meth, Rae & Ghost rock with them at the Roots Fest last year and honestly--- the sound could have been better and rawer.
But the Roots have made some songs STRONGER especially with Black Thought on the mike.
The fact they wanted to play the original version is legit, but come on, you don't think NBC has some world class sound mixers to get the vocals nice and centered? It's not like he'd be up there with some weak monitors getting lost in the mix.
the decision was foolish to not rock with the Roots. The Roots are the best and they would've made their song an instant classic instead of just another single. talk about a lost opprotunity. the "greatest rapper alive" (to some..lol) Jay-Z had the Roots do his entire Unplugged show...are they saying they're better than Jay?
I have to agree I like how meth sounded on tical dirty muffled... can't stand how he sounded on his later ish where he is so crispy and clean. .... those words would not be affiliated with the wu sound. "he's looking for a shooting star rap thats cleaner than a bar of soap, and I'm the dirtiest thing in sight!"
as for not ricking with the roots. look if you go on that show, it's expected you rock with the roots... anything less is weak, I don't care how new your record is.
If Meth feels that he gets drowned out by a band, that's neither his fault nor the bands fault? It's the sound man's fault. Anybody should be able to rock with a live band provided the sound man knows what he's doing and the monitors are set up properly. Meth should've known that doing a gig for Fallon using his band, the shit would've sounded proper.
what song are they talking about, a-yo? haha man mef said he he gets drowned out with a band, but then he says hes tone deaf? either way, i'm sure ?uest could play it to where he doesn't. i mean, all of them are the shit at what they do so i'm sure they could make something work.
@damieandark that's true but you also gotta understand that Meth & Red are also hip hop legends and probably didnt see it that way. in 1,000,000 years people will still remember wu tang clan & redman so they don't get starstruck like we do
rock with the roots and shit will be tighter, no doubt about it. live band always sounds better than a DJ. Especially the roots, they got shit their tighter than a 20 year old virgin
feel u on that my man.u just like me on that, can't go wrong wit the roots doing your shit live.but i can respect meth's response,& there's no beef between the 2 hip hop icons.
I think Red makes a good point - they just put the track out - so they want people to get familiar with it. Then once people get familiar you start doing live remixes
What Quest had to say made sense and it wasn't a really bitchy complaint..he was being reasonable..but Red and Meth kept it real...I hope they all get along cause I love them brothers.
and honestly, who gives a shit if Mef didn't work with the Roots? Is there a rule that says "to be a real rapper, you have to get the approval of the Roots?"
What happened to just rocking the crowd with two turntables, a dj and a mic?
It's called AYO, it's off their new CD blackout 2, also download City Lights ft. UGK, Pimp C does the course while Bun B, Red n Meth handle the versus.
at first they act like they dont know wtf they talkin bout, then he say he tone def but he knows he gets drowned out by a group he never rocked with....
actually if u think about it .. they rather just play the record and perform soooo its like 94 ?? cause the album is a throw back to the 90s?? doesnt that make u and porkesberg look stupid now ??
Imma rock with Mef on this one and say hey..if u know the band gonna overtake the track then do u pa..plus like he said, they wanted to really get the track out first b4 they tried anything new with it. ?uestlove took it hard tho..he need to breathe easy and understand where they were coming from as an artist.
I feel what red 'n' method is sayin but i still think they should've rocked with the roots, I mean shit, souljaboy rocked turn my swag on wit a band on the jimmy kimmel show. legends + legends= legendary shit.

it is what it is, the guys are used to doing shit with a dj, not a band. i like the roots, i like red and meth, but they do their shit different
