@JacqueRamon Yep. I took those out, took off the Wilkinson bridge, put the original Spector bridge back on, and put back in all the old black hardware/machine heads, and stained the body with a black wood stain.

Dude ...you rock man....great video...yea you messed some notes up.....no biggy man.....sounded and looks great. Totally awesome what you did to your Bass.
This is awesome, guy!! Nice playing, btw!! Perfect mix on the video to show off the bass. Just enough KingsX. Killer bass sound!! You rock!! (I'm a guitarist, btw)
@Charlie665bass Thanks man! Sorry, no Jeremy... this bass is back to a 4 string again. The truss rod just can't handle the added tension of the extra strings anymore!
I pulled the fretts from one of my basses, it sounds really good, I'm thinking of pulling a second on, No frett buzz with frettless, but you got to buy $50 flatwounds. Still worth it.
Let me know I can tell you how to pull them if you dont already know.
@BassDude50000 I used a Wilkenson bridge I already had, because those have two string anchors on each saddle, and filed a second groove in each one too, as well as a second set of grooves in a brass nut I'd made at work. Bought a set of 3/3 guitar tuners from a local store, drilled the holes in the head stock, routed a pocket for the bridge, and CRANKED the truss rod to deal with the tension. It's a total hack job, but it worked!
Is that thing a bitch to play? He played a 12 string for a while I think.
Makes you appreciate his skills even more.
I've never tried an 8 string bass, but on a guitar one string is smaller than the other so you have to press down different. Something I would have to get used to.
And for clarification, there are no "these" for this bass. This was the only Spector 8-string ever (as far as my research and contacting Spector was able to determine), and I converted it from a 4-string myself. It's back to a 4 now, and will stay that way.
@Anonmius00 I don't have any, but I know I'm not playing it correctly, I just stormed my way through it a couple times before recording this. I guess the guitar tab would probably be a decent start for the chunky parts, the rest I[m unsure of.
@Warsel Hey man, thanks! Actually I made a video showing my basic signal path.... it's called "The Spector Method". I tried to attach it to this reply, but it won't let me.
Be sure to read the description for lots of detail.
great sound. I looked all over for a spector NS-2A but I didn't see one like yours (strings aside). The pickups don't look like stock. Have you done custom work on it besides the strings?
@livium90 sure, I have two Rush covers up here that I play with my fingers. Playing real fast with fingers doesn't work too well on an 8 or 12 though, just gets messy.
@Spector2112 That's what I discovered when I owned my Dean 10-string. Being primarily a fingerstyle player I didn't have the pickstyle chops for it, and frankly didn't want to spend the time/effort in pickstyle when it'd be more effective putting the same effort into my overall playing. Now I'm using an E-H MicroPOG, which is 95% of the sound (effects have truly improved in this as I've used them for "Virtual 10-strings" for 15 years) and can use any bass I want for only parts of songs.
@Spector2112 You could play DANCE ON STILTS by BOC, it sounds so similar to this. Oh, and anyone who uses guitar can play over a backing track like this for fun! haha
Definitely takes more concentration, with both fretting and picking. There are times when I'm accidentally muting the octave strings, which defeats the purpose. I may do another quick partial vid of another song which would showcase the octave strings more.
dude, this video rocks! I can't believe that you disputed it and won! thats great. Once I tried to convince youtube and warner to un-block my video of time bomb, i never got a message back from warner and youtube just told me to look at the guidelines.
Still have to wait to see if I "won", or if it's just in line to be shot down later. Things have been weird lately. Some stuff is becoming safe, and then out of nowhere...BAM! What's really funny is that the backing track you hear is FROM YOUTUBE!! I played along with a video that was NOT on an official channel of any kind.
fingers and toes crossed. but again, it really was only a test video...Hell, i only learned the song right before posting it! I considered doing Jeremy, but that's too long and too obvious. (harmonics sounded GREAT though!)
Thanks man. It sounds SO much better now with the SeymourDuncans than it did when I only had one old ass EMG in it the last time it was in this configuration.
thanks man. On listening to it again, I notice a lot of times when I'm not fretting the octave strings as hard as I needed to,, so they aren't heard as much as I'd like, but that's just sloppy playing.
So if this is a 4-string again what did you do about the extra machine heads. Did you take them out?
JacqueRamon 6 days ago
@JacqueRamon Yep. I took those out, took off the Wilkinson bridge, put the original Spector bridge back on, and put back in all the old black hardware/machine heads, and stained the body with a black wood stain.
Spector2112 3 days ago
@Spector2112 It's a shame the neck couldn't handle the extra tension. It sounded great. Did you fill the headstock holes?

@MetallicBill I'd LOVE to have an 8-string Bich.
And for clarification, there are no "these" for this bass. This was the only Spector 8-string ever (as far as my research and contacting Spector was able to determine), and I converted it from a 4-string myself. It's back to a 4 now, and will stay that way.

@Spector2112 I know a chap who has two 8-string Bichs. He's got a fantastic collection, but they really stand out some.
Brilliant work on the conversion, even if it has gone back to a four. Seems a lot of people go back - mind if I ask why you did so?
