  • I like this collaboration better than Lou Reed/Metallica

  • Alas no. First, the songs don't share chordal progressions. BO is straight I, V, IV. As mentioned, for SJ they are I-V-VIm-IV. That may be hard to explain to someone who doesn't know much about music theory.

The point of the BO cyclical crash chords is theory allows any order (w/ or w/out the VI) because after a cycle rhythm can be heard starting on any chords. Given that 'Wild Thing' and 'Louie, Louie' both are simple I, V, IV to claim PT 'stole' that progression from LR is delusional.

  • The idea Pete based Baba o"Riley on Sweet Jane is silly. The chords for Swt Jane are D, A, G and B minor. The crash chords for Baba are F, C, Bb, Eb, and Csus4.

P.S. Don't rely on places like Chordie et al. for definitive chords. They're often wrong.

  • @AmaterasuHeika this might be hard to explain to someone who doesn't know much about music theory but its not the name of the chords its the function thats the same. for both songs the main chord progression both have in the same order I, V, IV. Basically the same chords in a different key.

  • Guess their "good friends" now after 42 years.

  • I wonder why people waste their time slagging off the videos? If you don't like it, don't listen to it!

  • I can never understand what people see in Lou Reed. I don`t like his style or anything he has ever done. He`s boring as the day is long.

  • @whyyeseyec

The days are short and your ears are closed my friend. Sweet pixies don't come this mellow smile liquid anymore buddy. Stop tricking yourself

  • @Hitman100 : You are correct. My ears are definitely closed to Lou Reed...

  • @whyyeseyec

go buy a copy of white light/white heat and see if you still have the same opinion.

  • @shoekstra1419 : Sorry, but I`d rather have transmission trouble with my car than waste my time listens to Reed...

  • @whyyeseyec

    closed minds start wars.

  • @whyyeseyec Sucker

  • @weicher : That was a weak comeback. Is that the best you can do? Call names when you lose an argument? I still don`t like Lou Reed.......

  • @whyyeseyec Listen to the song "Venusin Furs " by Lou Reed and see whether still you don't like him atleast that song. just try it. your world will be changed.

  • @whyyeseyec Just don't listen to him,or anything else you don't like then! Simple solution,problem solved,'nuff said!!

  • @whyyeseyec then go back listening to nancy and you won't have to waste your precious time listening to a Legend who changed music's history

  • @nimatek667 : . Yes, you are correct. Pete Townsend is a musical legend. Lou Reed? No. As for Nancy Wilson, she is much prettier than Reed and plays a much better guitar...

  • Lous cool but really, composing, songwriting, and rythym guitar playing,Townshend is the fucking King!!!!

  • WOW!!!

  • Comment removed

  • two legends ont he same stage : great

    and a fantastic song

  • I was there at Joe's Pub that night, great performance

  • they're boff working it!- NICE!

  • I love Lou Reed man, this video made me laugh so hard. He's old and he can still rock.

  • he aint old he"s experienced lol

  • Is it just me? It sounds like Pete is playing the riff like "We're not going to take it".

    Right?!

  • yeah, you got it dead on

  • i think they should start a band together. Not sure how long they would last though.

  • Powerful song.

    Love this!!

    Great video -

    thank you!!!

    5 stars

  • Wow you even get to see Pete for a moment too! Guess the camera guy's in love with Lou

  • hey cool. this is one of my favorite VU songs.

I'm also a huge Townshend fan.

very cool thanks for the post!!!

  • I was an Argie inmigrant, in Denmark, I was 16, it was 196something or other, HIPPIE life opening in front of my dreamy eyes, shit , for a moment the world belonged to us, it looked almost as if peace love and understanding, were taking over

And Velvet U. was there, long candlelit scandinavian lonely nights......

  • Super!!!!!!! Thanks

  • OMFG...THIS IS MAGIC!!!

  • Pete and Lou, its my dream come true:)

  • I love the call on response on the line "you always got to wait." Lou sings the line, repeats it... then Pete sings it again. One assumes they'd had some universally shared experience. As they say, "it's funny 'cause it's true."

  • common ground.

  • I can't believe these two men were on stage together. I don't know which one I love more.

  • The two grandfathers of punk.

  • Where was our Pete hiding? (behind the camera)

  • Pete's playin'. Makes you think where the sound came from..

  • Pete hardly ripped that riff, isn't even that similar.

  • Where is Joe's Pub? I think I should go there some time. They seem to have some great music there ;)

  • What's up with the fucking camera work? Get Pete in there now! Come on....

  • Yes, but you can still HEAR Pete...not so bad....adds a hell of a lot to this song...wouldn't mind seeing him as well, though! HE ROCKS@

  • wow...f'n tube...album?

  • great song great stars

  • very cool.

  • This song is 42 years old, and still sounds like it was done yesterday,

  • Holy crap - I had to check your math, I couldn't believe it! The first recorded demo dates from 1965 (43 years now, in fact).

  • @velvetunderground125 True Genius is NEVER old!

  • @velvetunderground125 Sorry to say, that's because just as many folks are on H as 42 years ago! Two of my favs together on such a great tune, wish the video showed Pete a lot more. Has there ever been a more accurate picture of scoring some junk than these lyrics? I don't tink so! I'm a lot older and smarter today, but in my reckless and foolish era, i would blare this(sometimes Bowie) coming home from "THE MAN's" house, happily singing along, until tomorrow, but that's just some other time!"

  • Everytime Lou plays this song it sounds different. This is like the 'Won't Get Fooled Again' version. Which is Ironic considering the fact that Pete lifted the riff from 'Sweet Jane' when he wrote 'Baba O'Reilly.'

  • lol kindof simmilar but i doubt townsend ripped him off the tunes to both songs r different.

  • Very nice! seems Pete taught Lou a suspended chord
