I'm completely done with Obama. Not that I would ever vote Republican, but this is probably the biggest deception in recent history. It is disgusting + upsetting beyond my wildest expectations. And now he has appointed the head of GE as his job-creation point man. What a sycophant and tool he is... I'm beyond disgusted.
The fact that we act as we want, using whatever excuses are at hand, is rather obvious. If it is indeed a universal moral imperative that Obama is invoking, it would certainly apply to Yemen & Bahrain's govts shooting their peaceful protesters. The differences between the US responses in those situations tells you everything you need to know about how US policy is really conducted - what its real motivations are.
@FeelFreeToArgue No kidding. I gave the man the benefit of the doubt, but my doubts have been erased. All my misgivings were confirmed. Many times over. I realize that politics involves compromise, but never in my wildest dreams did I think, it would get this bad. Should have listened to my gut instinct and the information I had back then. In some ways, this is worse than Bush/Cheney, because he's legitimizing it all.
excellent JP, as always.. you talk way to much common sense and logic for most of the world to understand what a total disaster he has been. playing his role in the oval office as another war president. just think, there are many who think he is doing a wonderful job.
Excellent commentary except for the unfair line about denying of WI unions workers the right to collectively bargain. For one, its is not a right and two, it was only restricted for programs like pensions and healthcare (not pay) where the collection on the promises made are usually decades in the future.
@uche007us - Glad you like most of it. But just so we're clear, I wasn't just referring to Wisconsin with the mention of collective bargaining. The attack on union members' rights is happening all over the country. It's a TRULY unfair, ongoing, systematic assault on middle class working people, with the goal of driving ever more wealth to the richest of the rich while the rest of us are left with crumbs. The ability of union members to bargain collectively is NOT the source of our problems.
@jperryam thanks for clarifying the CB point but then on fairness, how is it fair to force non public sector union workers to pay the lavish pay and benefits of PSUworkers? many of whom don't even have a pension or healthcare and earn way less that PSUW. For example PSUW janitors in CT make $21 /hr with pension, anyway my point is that these people may not be the main cause of the problem but they are squeezing the poor class and it is unfair to them
@jperryam contd So in essence, you supporting the status quo for the unions especially after the huge financial crisis shows a disregard for the real poor and the suffering they have been going thru since the meltdown.
