  • You need to practise on your canter but apart from that your position is amazing xx :)

  • @Misshorseygurl It doen't matter if you can't canter as long as you can walk and trot well than you are a good rider dosen't matter what anyone else says and i've been cantering for 5 months now and i still can't sit its really hard to canter ( I guess it dosen't help cuz i ride thoroughbreds all the time) =]

  • i have jumped for several months now, and my instructor still has me not sitting the canter completely

  • PLEASE CHECK OUT MY VIDEOS OF ME AND MY PONIES, WITH MY FRIEENDD;)

  • i think i know you!!!!!!!!!!!!!

have you ever gone to a camp called 'kemur'??

  • that is an annoying canter seat....js.

  • Y are u rising 2 a canter???? random much

  • I love the huge smile! :) no one starts out with a perfect seat, you look like you had a ton of fun

  • wow that is pretty good for your first jump. Its good that you learned the basics (walk/trot/canter) before you jumped. Some barns dont teach you how to canter before you jump. It kinda looks like that horse has a very hard canter to sit. I had a pony like that once you should just go into half seat but obv. this was like 3 years ago so your probably waay better! hahah ;)

  • That's unusual that an instructor would teach you to jump before teaching you how to sit to the canter :/ Bad doing on their part.

  • Once you jump your hooked! No way out! You fall in love and Riding is your life after that day!! You fall in love with jumping with horse

Well it is for me x]!

  • @toontown1111 Yep, you are hooked once you start jumping, i just started jumping a couple months ago and it's so fun, I love western riding and that was one of the reasons i left my old stables was to do western and while i still ride western now, i find myself riding and jumping english more, I love both but jumping is just so much fun

  • I understnad your instructer wants you to post but i cant stand it! Can u sit your canter at the time in this video at all? But other wise good job jumping:)

  • She's not posting. I had that same trouble. I started doing two point position and let me tell you that made a world of difference. I slowly started to sit down farther and farther in my seat now I can ride the horse's canter. Good job! Keep up the hard work!

  • You seem to trotting in canter, you need to relax more legs, and go in the movement of the horse.

  • I know You said This was an old video but You shouldent be jumping if you cant canter or you we're posting but it will stop your horse from cantering x

  • It's not that you were posting when you were cantering, it's that your muscles were tense. The key to staying in one place while your cantering in two-point is to relax your ankles and let them move, but nothing else. I'm sure you've gotten better, though :)

  • i take it u can't sit when u canter ur not the only 1 i cant either

  • @077Cuddles Yup I can now....this was 3 years ago. Check out my new videos

  • @xlove2ridex ok will do

  • @077Cuddles do u go into ur 2 point when u canter its makes it easier

  • @americangirllovers10 wots 2 point?????

  • @americangirllovers10 whats 2 point?

  • @077Cuddles jumping position

  • @americangirllovers10 o well i dont

  • you did good for your first time jumping but you should really go with the canter and sit it not post it. it looks really awkward. didnt your teacher say anything about that?

  • She's tall and standing slightly instead of lifting give her a break she's a good jumper for her first time.

  • WHen u were cantering it seemed like u were donig english troting (nooffens) but it was really weird! u have to sit back on the horse and let him take the rythm so u are both comfortable!!

  • why do you post when cantering? just sit in the saddle...

  • D:

  • OMG PEOPLE SHUTUP!!!!!! people some people post at the canter so its easier to go with the flow its an exersise some people do at the canter even though u dont usually do besides trainers are different horses are different so stop saying that

  • is tht u in the pink top..? i dnt think u cn ride the canter properly cuz u look like ur trying to do rising trot while cantering :S sorry bout tht but it bigged me

  • your horse?????

  • u did gr8 and i love everytime we touch by cascade my favorite song my first jump was at the trot though and the same hight but maybe that horse doesnt jump at the trot and jumping at the canter is even better the reason y i didnt jump at the canter was because i was just learning how to canter well any way u did awesome

  • you dont really look right on him but that was ages ago u posted that so u could be great now .............just my opinion lol

  • Cute horse :) I will say you do come out of the saddle a lot and you should be sitting in the saddle, but the thing i don't get is that your instructor wants you to stay out of the saddle, sorta weird. But great job for your first jumping lesson :D

  • Wow your really good, but I would try riding a horse with smoother paces, I am NOT saying this horse is bumpy but you look like your finding him a little bouncy I may be wrong but you have probably improoved a heap and you probably have a new horse. If this was your first time jumping I am well jealous of you you were AMAZIN stunning horse x

  • @BuzzyBuzzyBumblebee3 no aha the horse is really bouncy ! aha not afraid to admit that one and neither is xlove2ridex we ride tg and this was my lesson horse he can be a real pain! and on top of that the whole cantering issue about 'posting' is that he has a REALLY slow canter and for whatever reason, this instructor likes us to ride a canter half seat so its really hard because he is slow and bouncy i am only sayin this cuz alot of ppl commented on her canter position and he is really hard to

  • looks very good for your first time, at least hes not short like my horse who has to throw himself over the jump

  • did you ussually ride him?? cause you looked kind of like you were used to riding a different horse, but since it was a year ago im not critisising. EVERYBODY has their bad days and i just had one yesterday!!

  • @mickeymouseluvaz no she doesn't usually ride him

  • Okay, yeah ur instructor is crazy for not wanting you to sit the canter., well ur seat is actually (ur right) prety bumpy. so what u wanna do is squeeze with ur FEET not thighs because that will make the horse go faster. so try that =) but it was pretty good anyway =)

  • Just one thing........ U might want to stop posting when u canter. Sometimes that is why a horse might not keep cantering.

  • you look like your bumping down the back up again, try standing in your stirrups as if you going to gallop but lower yourself a little bit and sit up a bit more rather than a forward gallop position and put all your weight in your legs that might help to be more comfortable for you and the horse, if your instructor doesnt want you sitting canter, good luck! x

  • God, at my riding school they make us jump on our first lesson, only a lil one but still :/ it's ages till they let us canter, lol but my instructor didn't teach me, some of ma mates did ;) Haha the instructor was shocked to see me cantering ;)

  • from the back wen u were cantering it looked a little lyk u were posting, no offence but that horse wasnt made for u but u still looked gr8, u dont look rite 4 him cuz u were poping out and up a little and u just looked kinda awkward on him, im not judging or critisising, im telling my opinion, im sure ur much better and after all that was over a year ago. other readers; she was younger and it was her first time, she has gotten better im sure... cut her sum slack

  • thanks...yah I don't think he was the right horse for me

  • welcum...ull find ur perfect horse tho!:)

  • @xlove2ridex nope that boys mine!

  • @hannalovesrio1 i dont think it has to do with if the horse is right for her... it was just because she hadn't developed a seat for a canter yet no biggie... no one can sit a canter at first

  • bahaha lauren your posistion is absolutely TERRIBLE in this :P even your canter is terrible bahaha really? what would lorie say :P

    -Elyse

  • haha im pretty sure you're just jelous that i'm riding your baby. :P

  • nah aha not jealous since u can't ride him anyhow without losing ur stirup over a jump!

  • i would like to take that challenge again! lol that was a weird lesson anyway because he was missing a shoe

  • excuses excuses and no u can't try again cuz then i would not be riding him

  • @xlove2ridex ......... ur position did not look terible! i dont know y that girls so mean to u?

  • @horselover99100 I ride with her it was alll in jokes and she knows that :P I usually ride this horse so i know how difficult it is just makin a joke with my friend

  • @mysecretscankill oh hehee sorry....... i kind of looked at it in the wrong kind of way =)

  • @horselover99100 thats okay aha i kow it can look harsh :P

  • When your cantering in this vid your bouncing out of the saddle to much if you want to fix this you should sit with your shoulders back more.... Also shorten the stirrups a hole or two and put your heels ferther down ( it mite hurt a bit but it helps..)

  • Hello , just wondering becuase of what the coments say is he your horse ........ He absolutly beutiful

  • not sure if this is directed at me or not but no, lester (the horse lol) is not mine but he is my lesson horse, i wish he was mine :P one week my coach put lauren on him and she went over a jump, he jumps REALLY different from the pony she rides and he is strong so she lost a stirrup, i consider him mine lol cuz i have been riding him for like 2 years now lol but i don't own him

  • What you need to do is weight your heals and rest your hands and try to slide your toe in and your heals down and out and you will have better balance and when you canter sit back and weight your heals but this looks great

  • oh dear...looks like you need to learn to sit down in the saddle :O

  • wow you did awesome for your first time!!!

  • Hey guys thanks for all the advice! check out the video response to see my progress (it's been about one year now!)

  • try to keep your legs inline with your hips and your shoulders. and with his canter to me it just looks like you have to learn his rhythm more.

  • tey to balance in the saddle more, and make your hands less tense. also atleast sit up strait even if you arent sitting the canter and push all you wait into the stirrups good job tho!!!!!

  • (Sorry hat was so long, the character count didn't allow me to post it all together.)

  • My last bit of advice is to push your feet back behind the girth a little ways, so you can balance and keep your heels in a straight line, an invisible one. Ask our trainer about that one, if you want. :P Best wishes, ~Ash :D

  • Keeping your stirrup iron close to your toe helps immensively. Your trainer may be different; but mine has taught me to keep my shoulders open, and my hip angle closed. A straight back and a slight arch in your lower back, not a crouch arch, the opposite arch. :]

  • little*

  • Everytime you feel your horse push you up out of the saddle, stretch down into your heels like you're trying to reach the ground with your heels.

  • For Huntseat riding, I would say that that was good that you let the horse push you up out of the saddle, but try to keep your bum a ittle closer to it.

  • I would sit the canter anyway, it will feel alot smoother and more secure. If you want to work on your leg muscles to help stop the swinging on your outside leg, ask your instructor if you can warm up with posting trot no stirrups. It's hard but if you're determined to stay on, you can do it.

  • Your a natural rider, but at the canter I did notice your lower leg swinging, (but those muscles come after years of riding), and as you said you were like posting in the canter... =)

  • that was really good for your first time... i iva sit, stand or rise to my canter it depends on what horse im on and whats most comfortable for me and the horse.

  • hmm that's weird she doesn't want you to sit it. i was taught to sit it and it's wayy nicer for me and wayy easier to jump.

  • posting canter is going to be different for you when your instructer lets you sit it. Cuz when you sit canter its more of you and your horse. yes, its bouncy but its something you have to get use to. It is difficult switching over.

  • Why doesn't she want you to sit the canter yet? Usually riders are taught to sit it first, and then use the posting canter as an exercise. Ask her about it. Ask her when you will be sitting the canter. Sometimes, learning to post the canter before learning to sit the canter will make sitting the canter more difficult when you actually start. Don't be afraid to ask if you can try a sitting canter. By the way, nice job for first time jumping! I'm just a green jumper too!

  • i would ask your instructor about sitting it because i am cantering in 2-point now but i accidentally sat it one time he burst into a canter from a slow trot and i wasn't expecting it. his trot feels like it has a 3rd beat so the canter is similar i looked alot like this and it was really uncomfortable for me espically when he came up to a jump like that

  • yes, it does look like your posting. ask your trainer to work with you more. tell her you feel like your out of the saddle too much. i had to ride a horse who had a very powerful canter and just to get him to calm down i had to get off his back, but i wanst as high as you. but just ask.

  • Your instructor should be teaching you to sit the canter when you start to learn canter otherwise there is no point in learning! please tell your instructor that she is a very bad instructor and that she should teach you to sit your canter straight away please tell her that this is from fay slater a.k.a mcr4eva 645

  • I think you need to choose between staying in 2-point when cantering or sit the canter. You're kinda posting the canter which isn't comfortable for the horse, I'd ask your trainer what she/he thinks. A lot of hunter trainers teach cantering in 2-point first, but once you start jumping bigger, you'll need to sit the canter. Good luck and hope all goes well for you!

  • you do what i do but you look fine dont worry im stilling having problems with my sitting canter and ive been ridding for 10 years or so. your jumping is really good for a first time. you did better then me

  • love dis song

  • i started at a sitting the canter, you look fine to me though.

  • you did great!!! I remember the first time jumping, I was SOOO excited :)) The canter pace was wounderful and very strong, BEAUTIFUL horse! :D

  • thanks! hah yeah i was really excited when my instructor said i could try jumping the next lesson. Yeah lester's a great horse. unfortunately he's not mine...he's a lesson horse but i just love him! :)

  • kinda looks like your posting the canter actually, no it doesnt look bad, but usually you start trotting jumps before cantering, i also learned how to canter on the lunge, but i dont even always sit the canter. you look fine.

  • cascada-everytime we touch

  • you look fine to me, but then again i am on the horse more than i am watching.

  • I'm not to sure because Iv'e only had like 6 lessons in my life and now I'm 13.

But I kind of taught myself to ride. Now I compete BSJA 1.5m but my cousin is an instructor and they have to sit in there canter seat firmly before jumping.

But God you look great jumping ithout sitting in canter!

  • thanks for the comment.that's really helpful!

  • thanks alot for the advice!..ill definately ask my instructor about that!

  • Hey, great riding, especially for your first jumping lesson!

I think your instructors intentions are good, but you really need to sit to the canter before you start jumping.

It will help with your overall position and balance if you can sit to the canter, and if you ask me it's definately not an advanced skill.

Maybe, if you haven't already, speak to your instructor and ask her to give you some lessons on the lunge just sitting to the canter.

    Hope this helps!

    Gorgeous horse btw!

    xx

  • well she said that sitting the canter was more advanced..... and guess she wants me to build up my leg muscles..and he is a very bouncy horse. i know it looks like im coming down hard on the saddle but im actually not "sitting" back down in it im just letting it come to me with his stride so i don't think that its too "painful" for him but i do think i need stronger legs so i can stay up!!

  • wtf

sitting your canter is more advanced?

at our barn if you can't sit your canter you don't eve get out of beginners!

  • why doesn't your instructor want you to sit your canter?

it looks painful for your horse because every time you land you crash hard on his back!
