I love your videos Uistman, thank you so much for this one - I have driven this road many times and it brings back great memories :) Looking forward to being back on North Uist in July for Berneray and Sollas weeks!
Uistman, your choice of music and song is touching, to say the least, and brings back fondest memories of my childhood in Stornoway. God bless you, Uistman. - Peter in New Zealand.
@themikeymac55 Berneray. is a small island in the Sound of Harris between the Isle of Harris to the north and North Uist to the south ( to which it is now connected by a causeway) Latitude: 57º 42'N Longitude: 07º 10'W . It is famous as the birthplace of Angus MacAskill, the Cape Breton Giant (1825-1863), of Englishtown, Cape Breton Island.
Karen Matheson has such a clear and beautiful voice some of the songs she sings bring me close to tears. Yes even big hairy Scotsmen can cry when they hear one of their women sing so wonderfully, and I'll fight any man that says different! :-)
I had a teacher at primary school in Inverness who used to learn - or at least, tried to learn - her pupils some Gaelic songs, and this is one of them. Unfortunately, I never did learn much of any of them.
