hehee, i was there :p (and also there for the real thing :D ). btw i think the jumps were also small cuz it was just a small event for all the teams to get a little familiar with the facilities and the WEATHER in hk (it was awfully warm and humid!). It was really a big friendly event i think. some (or most) riders didn't even bring the horses they would compete with the next year.. aanyways that's enough bragging for now, i'll shut up ;)

lol um thier positions are fine i dont think they would make it that far if they didnt know how to position themselves on a horse, also you must remember this is eventing not show jumping! they ride slightly diff in the show ring because of thier cross country backround but all in all they are amazing riders :D

At the Olympics verticals can go up to 5' 7" (170cm) in the Final - i.e. 1992 Barcelona - 1st Classic Touch, 2nd Ratina, 3rd Irish in the jump-off

The jumps are smaller because it's 3-day eventing. show jumping is the 3rd day so the jumps aren't as big as with regular "1-day" show jumping.

Jumps are about 4'1" here whereas show jumping has jumps 6' and higher.

i heard that they agreed to make the xc course shorter.

but i did see a some pics of the cross country and some of the jumps did seem unusually small for olympic level...

no I think most of the huge jumps are like fiberglass or something.. that's at least what I saw.. but I know in 2009 all XC jumps are required to have brake away pins on the top bars to prevent rollover falls..and all the huge jumps that have shapes are suppose to be hallow..or something like that so if a horse crashes it makes the jump collapse.. I saw that in my eventing magazine since XC is getting so much bad stuff because of the beginning event accidents and stuff.

The pins are only for intermediate or training leval or over I think........ I like the frangible pins idea. I am an eventer and XC falls scare me to death!

I heard on tv the other day that beijing is making the XC course jumps smaller so not to have any accidents but the course is like longer then normal.. so more of an endurance run..

don't know how true it is though just what i heard.

Or maybe their horses are just freakishly large.... But yeah I agree those jumps are tiny compared to olympic ones

it was just for riders and horses to get used to the conditions over there as they cant be expected to jump the proper height straight away if they aren't used to the heat
