He saw other flashes that weren't about Charlie. For instance, he saw "Claire and her baby" get on the helicopter and leave the island...which never actually came true.

Ok, except Locke didn't become paralyzed AGAIN when turned the wheel and left the island. He broke his leg from falling down the well, but he still had use of his legs when he exited in Tunisia.
After season 3, Desmond is still on the island, but we don't hear anything about his premonitions ever again.
maybe the island or Jacob gave him that gift to help extend Charlie's life because Charlie is the only person who can decode the jamming signal in the Looking Glass. this way, Widmore's freighter team (Faraday, Miles) can all make it back to the island. we'll see the big picture when the season ends, we'll see Charlie's death won't be all in vain.
Henry Ian Cusick is just adorable. He seems such a sweet and nice guy. He's also hugely talented. And I also find him unbearably sexy, but that's just me... :-) Desmond is one of the best characters in "Lost": keep up the good works!

Desmond is one of my fav characters next to sawyer. He is so hot, and I love his story.
