  • Dr. Dunkenstein

  • Fuckin' Billy "Fudge" Packer, biggest buzz-kill ever, same jack ass that said Larry Bird was overrated, dumbass.

  • Word has it he took 4qtrs of the top of the backboard n put a $1 back to replace the qtrs

  • Let the record be known my poppz was 6'4 jordan was 6'6 the dunk jordan called rock the craddle was 1 handed this was 2handed,plus poppz and david thompson was the 1st to fo the 360 this was b4 jordan...look at his shorts...and my poppz has the record of 1 full second in hang time jordans was 0.8....when ur shorter the dunks are that more exciting...now ask urself can u make a lay up let alone #shitonem

  • that normal for someone with a 48'' vertical

  • @wazzzzaap nah this was 1980 dunks like this were like someone doing a 720 today

  • Vince Carter got higher on his dunks than Jordan.

  • Him and Jordan had vertical leaps of 48 iches, but Jordan had the longer wingspan and was 2 inches taller. So the nod goes to Jordan for the best leaper ever... What crown does he not hold lol

  • hold spacebar for slow-mo (:

  • it was four or five years before another dunk that funky came along. doctor's dunks were smooth. they were nasty. but dg's was funky. when i see it now i still think he's gonna just keep going up.

  • I cannot stand Billy Packer's call of this play, he's actually critiquing DG's dunk on the basis of fundamentals, what?! This is why everyone, literally everyone hates this guy.

  • Who cares? it was a great dunk, especially in 1980...

  • I actually think Griff called that dunk "Windjammer". fyi

  • That's still awesome for it's time

  • 48'' vertical jump, same as Michael Jordan.

  • @yb3000 Jordan didn't have a 48inch vertical. Jordan even said so himself. His was 42. He had hangtime and that can offset someone who is a leaper.

  • @rjam1974

I disagree. Back in 1992 i have talked to Scottie Pippen about Michael's jumping ability while renovering his girlfriends house in Chicago. He have admitted that Jordan has 48 vertical jump. Check one of many articles on subject, google 'Michael Jordan Owns The NBA Vertical Jump: Where's Carter and Kobe?'

  • @yb3000

Griff did it first, and did it the best, period.

  • @satcheese Good for him. The only one thing worth comparing him to Jordan is his vertical.

  • @yb3000

and the fact that he was the MVP of the NCAA tourny for the National Champions, and U of L's all time leading scorer!

Plus he is "Dr. Dunkenstein"! Jordan is the greatest player of all time in the NBA! However, you s**k for not appreciate a true college basketball legend, when you see one!!!

  • @satcheese

And it all started with you stated the wrong information that Jordan high jump is only 42.

It has nothing to do with me not recognizing Darrell as one of the greatest college player.

Stop giving him a rim job and focus on subject !

  • @rjam1974 Hangtime is a myth. Once you're in the air, everyone is subject to the exact same gravitational force. Nobody has the power to change the natural trajectory of their motion once airborne.

  • @airforcefoo Hangtime is not a myth. I didn't say they would hang for 10 seconds. Its about using your legs and stealing a few tens of a second while in midair. Checkout the jordan game winner against Craig Ehlo in 1989 playoffs. Both jumped at the same time but Jordan stole a few tenths of second by kicking his legs out a bit. Alot of guys in basketball though out the time have been able to "steal" a few tenths of second to get a shot off (Kobe is the other that comes to mind).

  • @rjam1974 Trust me. It is. It's physics. Jordan stays in the air longer than Elo because he jumped higher, and gives the optical illusion that he's hanging at the top of his jump by kicking his legs. Jordan's center of gravity, along with every other projectile, is being affected by a constant downward acceleration from the force of gravity. You can look up more credible physicists than myself completely and unequivocally dispel the hangtime myth.

  • Greatest dunk of all time.

  • Has this game on DVD

  • fake 'n gay

  • He could grab a quarter off the top of the back board

  • good lord that was ferocious.

  • he cant even palm the ball. best ever

  • Never forget the famous DR. DUNKENSTEIN...

  • HE CAME TO MY CLASSS!!@@ I LIVE IN LOUISVILLE KENTUCKY AND MY FRIENDS UNCLE IS D.G. :D:D:D:D

  • Dr. Dunkenstein....the coolest name to ever play in the NBA.

  • Dr. Dunkenstein forever!!!

  • Did he say, "Give a disco move"?

  • Comment removed

  • I wish they would actually have the players jump for the ball after a jump ball is called like back in the '80s. Otherwise, why call it a jump ball? At about 0:49 you'll see a classic Denny Crum defensive play: half court trap, and it was executed with such precision and effectiveness.

  • jbocardfan, now and then I make myself to reminence what it was like before I was able to dunk in bball. Ever since I followed the training program at 50inch vertical[dot]com - my skills has been improving alot and I'm even a starter now! #key1#

Darrell Griffith's 'Around The World' dunk vs LSU in 1980.

  • Maybe if Phi Slama Jama could hit free throws the would have a ring just like Dr. Dunkenstien

  • one of the greatest dunks in college history

  • 3 yrs later the "Sons of Dunkenstein" got embarrassed by Phi Slama Jama who had 22 dunks on them...

  • @MoeHailstone If Griffith was there that definitely would not have happened.

  • @MoeHailstone

And they were unable to seal the final deal unlike the Original Doctors of Dunk.

  • That dunk was wild!

  • hey guys add a fellow cards fan as a friend and we can exchange subscriptions

  • the dr operated that rim and it was a success

  • I give that dunk a 10 out of 10!

  • go cards!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i love how the announcers get so excited when they see him%2Proxy-Connection: keep-alive

    Cache-Control: max-age=0

    unning alone downcourt.

"Here we go! Here we gooo!"

  • HE WAS THE BEAST I WANT HIM BACK

  • he is my godfather isnt that sweet

  • UofL was the standard for players who thought they could hoop and throw it down. I just love how excited Griff's teammate was to see such a vicious dunk (1:17).

Thanks for posting this...it takes me back!

  • dr. dunkinstien

  • HERE WE GO, HERE WE GOO

  • And you wonder why the NCAA reinstated the dunk!

  • when I first seen this dunk on tv when it happen I thought he was Flying . He was all that and a bag a chips and some dip .Ha ha old school.

  • He was my childhood hero. I just wish he had been on tv more in his prime.

  • Nice video! The Dr. is IN!!!!!!

  • That is a sweet dunk.. reminds me of David Thompson or the Doctor.

  • disco move!!!

  • Simply amazing! He was quite possibly the greatest leaper ever.

  • @clarkscottkent he was the first man i ever saw jump over someone and dunk. Is that on you tube? I'm pretty sure it was in international play

  • @clarkscottkent he was good but not the best

  • @clarkscottkent michael jordan had the same vertical leap

  • @clarkscottkent his leap is tied with jordan at 48 inches.

  • what a dunk

  • u got msn

  • rate me 1-10

    im sad Es

  • heart heart t

  • Looking at this video, I realize that Billy Packer has been an a****** for a long time.

  • best dunks ever

  • Darrell Griffith is my hero.

  • when was this? like 30 yrs ago or what?

  • Here it comes, around the world dunk! Up, around, bend, look backwards, give a disco move.....!!!!!!!

  • I was thinking like souloucard. Is Billy Packer really saying he didn't like the St. John's dunk? I wasn't born yet but that dunk is the standard at UofL.

  • What amazes me is that BILLY PACKER is the main announcer for college basketball for almost 35 years.

  • Time for him to retire!

  • Dreams can come true, thank god he called it quits.

R.I.P. AL MCGUIRE (a genuine lover of college basketball and humanity!)

  • How hilarious is it that LSU was actually the #1 seed in that region? U of L beat them with ease.

  • Only Louieville is the center of the basketball universe.

  • I think LOUISVILLE to win a NCAA TOURNAMENT, they have to play in HOUSTON before they get to the final four!

    what a FILTHY DUNK

    tite

  • Dr. Dunkenstein! Damn that was pretty

  • dear lord that was nasty

  • Another great video, jerb. The Cards thumped the Tigers on their way to the title. It's funny that Packer and McGuire comment on the dunk at St. John's. That dunk video would be the Holy Grail find for any UofL fan.
