Might be stupid for asking but still, I need to know: Why is everyone so obsessed with Cliff? I know he was in Metallica as basist on Kill, Ride, Master but what did he do that made him so "Legendary"? Did he make any guitar riffs that they used? What is the deal here?
@MrRagge5 they were a bunch of kids who didnt know a lot about music theory, that overall metallica sound on ride, master, and justice are because cliff pushed them to be more intrucate and more artistic. he also did write a lot of riffs (or at aleast helped develope the riffs) if your really intrested read the book on his life "To Live is to Die", great book, a bass players bible if you will
I don't know why but Metallica just sounded a lot better without Rob. I'm sorry to all you Trujilo fans but Cliff was the best and Jason was okay but Rob just ruined it. Now Metallica is sounding worse and worse.
jason is a great bassist, but let's face it, he never could with orion, to live is to die, the call of Ktulu, anesthesia etc. and robert if you can, now that's one, the other never have wanted to play those songs laziness or something else but this video shows that at least for me, is better than jason robert
It's not the noob's that don't care for Rob. It's the oldb's like me, that practiced all of Cliff's lines over and over until our parent's and friends no longer would have anything to do with us and their ears are still bleeding to the bass writing of Mr. Cliff Burton.

There, now all you fools can shut the hell up and watch.
there aren't good or bad drum player, there are unique styles and diferent forms for playing a drum and Lars has his own style. I think the only thing that matters here is that he is a leyend because of his unique style and label and the challenge is trying to be as original as he in our lifes, and asume the challenge of being famous.
@BobBinnenstad he isn't even 50, i'm sure every 50-year-old drummer that has been playing for decades can play more professionally than lars. and i do appreciate his input in the 80s on the drum tracks and arranging the songs with james but it's a fact that he's really lost his edge on drumming
@CraSSiou I do not hate him. Actually I`ve loved Metallica since the 80`s. But Lars do not play drums well anymore. He stopped playing good drums right after they realesed "...and justice for all". Lars have loose his tempo, stamina and finess and it gets worse witin the years. Dave Lombardo and Charlie Benante still play fast and powerful.
And yeah Lars earn his money well. He deserved it, but he is no longer the great drummer as before.
@kusipussi I agree, Lars isn't the greatest drummer out there but you can tell that he's putting his all in it and you've gotta appreciate that no matter what.
@legojunk53 Lars brings way more to Metallica than the Drums. He constructs their songs. Without him, Master of Puppets, One, Creeping Death, Fade to Black... The list goes on and on wouldn't be the songs they are. James and Kirk write the riffs but Lars puts everything together.
@JJMM33 waaaayyyy wrong. Master of Puppets, Creeping Death, Fade To Black, etc were the result of Cliff's genius. song structure, etc. notice how the quality of the albums after Puppets steadily declined. especially the suck ass St. Anger! ugh. if Cliff were still around, NO WAY that Anger would suck as bad as it did and would have kicked ass. Long Live Cliff!!
@ztztzyzy Sorry but I have to disagree with you. AJFA proves that metallica still could do this without Cliff. Im not saying that Cliff wasnt a big influence for metallica. He certainly was. Metallica was still musically very strong but well alcohol and personal issues had the biggest influence on St. Anger.
@fatino1234 you still can't argue against the fact that the music steadily declined. metallica is still a great cover band, but for original music, nah. as for Anger, it totally bombed and load & reload weren't great albums either. i still say that if Cliff were around to contribute to Anger, it would have been good. AJFA was right after Cliff. i'm talking about anything (except Gargage Inc. etc) done after The Black Album. the horrible vids trying to be alternative, *shudder*
@ztztzyzy I agree with you for the most part, except that I feel like Death Magnetic was a nice start in the right direction for these guys. Was it the best? No, but at least it was more geared towards their original fans, not the fans of rock n roll Metallica. If it is any indication, along with the beyond magnetic tracks, then I feel like the next REAL album will be something to be proud of
@Monkey111092 true, they seem to be back on course, their "Metallica plays The Ramones" was a great side project. part of Death Magnetic's problem was that Bob Rock played bass. but it is a step in the right direction. and as you said, the next REAL album should be good now that Rob's on board....have you checked out "Violent and Funky" by Infectious Grooves? Rob totally kicks ass on that song....
@legojunk53 Lars is a great drummer, one of my favorites. It's all down to opinion on who they think is the best drummer I think he is one of, if not the the best personally. But yes, he's putting all of his effort into his performances you can see that, you do have to appreciate that no matter what.
Anybody who hates on Rob is a fucking idiot, and I'd like to see any of you do better than him. Cliff Burton (God bless him) was a legend, and he would be proud to see his legacy live on through Rob, so all of you stupid ass noob haters shut the fuck up and enjoy the music
@zelsharkawy92 i couldn't agree with you more brother , the biggest problem with rockers/metalheads is that they don't judge by the music , they judge by the people that is playing it. i personally love the cliff and jason eras , rob is an awsome bass player although i don't like their albums after 2003 , but i love the fact that they still play some of my old and favorite songs. like this one "ORION" . R.I.P Cliff , respect jason , awsome job robert
