Someone telling me to speak native American is completely stupid. When I go to other countries I try to speak as much of their language as I can just out of respect. You can't speak native tongue in the military, you speak English. If you want to be a citizen you should speak unbroken English, period!

I just get irritated when I go to a predominantly hispanic neighborhood and ask a store employee for help and receive "No ingles." What makes it worse is when said employee does not proceed to find someone who speaks English to come and assist me. As if, telling me "No ingles." means that I no longer wish to be assisted. It has happened to me plenty of times.

I live in Canada and we are required to learn French at school. I am not very good at it but I know that when I've gone to Quebec or to France - people really appreciate the effort I make to use their language. It's interesting to learn about other cultures and to have friends from other backgrounds than ourselves!
