  • I like Thomas Hampson... but this is great!

  • The best was Hermann Prey :)

  • John Rawnsley is better.

  • I have heard Gobbi sing with real finesse and style.. this is not one of those performances.

  • Great voice and traditional arrangement however Lawrence Tibbett has a better version in my opinion

    Danny Long Island

    Range and Resonance for Barritones

  • "BEST" Me thinks you need to get out more often!!! Straight tone singing and a pushed top.... YUK!!!

Tibbett better - - Warren Awesome but not right for his sound... Merrill!!!

"recognizable" - I agree - as in poor...

  • WOW THIS IS A SUPER PERFORMANCE, HE IS ON PAR WITH ThomaS Hampson, Pablo Elvira, wow, it's wonderful to hear a great voice sing this!!!!!

  • Thomas Hampson owned this. Gobbi is perfect but for me Thomas did it much better! But still, both are very good.

  • Sorry, but Lawrence Tibbett's version is much better.

  • es la mejor versión que he oído de esta cavatina!!!

  • No doubt, only Tito Gobbi could sing Figaro this way. And the voice is very recorgnizable!

  • Hahaha, It´s unbelievable to see some people still cannot identify Gobbi´s voice... I think if you could hear him singing as don Giovanni in which he really performs with a lightest voice, you would say he is an unknown tenor....

  • This is not Gobbi, it's not even an italian singer

  • Sounds like Thomas Hampson!

  • If you really want to hear this done well, listen to Liao Changyong He blows this guy (and everybody)away.

  • It's Gobbi alright. Have a look at 'Tito Gobbi interpreta Figaro e canta 'Largo al Factotum' ' here on You tube as it shows him acting it in 1956. I saw him a number of times. He was to my mind similar to Callas. He had a passable voice, richer when he was younger. It was what he did with it - he used it to really express the character's feelings. Listen to CDs of his like Nabucco and Simone Biccenagra. He was a fantastic actor as well. In my mind he is one of the greats.

  • I'm inclined to agree with SweetfFiness, I don't think this is Gobbi. Listen to all the other recordings of him doing this aria, in this recording almost none of the same interpretive decisions are made.

  • Sounds more like Merrill.

  • Of course it's Gobbi.

I still have the old recording, with Callas as Rosina.

  • @juanmlleras taddei è il migliore...per me :-)

  • Some of these comments are very funny. Tito Gobi was one of the centuries great singing actors. He is one of the few baritones with a technique sure enough to do all of the coloratura in this part - listen to how he negotiates the duet with Callas in the famous recording - amazing. For me he was the greatest Iago and Scarpia ecause he NEVER wobbled! Solid as a rock. Thanks for posting.

  • This is NOT Gobbi

  • Are you sure this is Gobbi? He has more power.

  • i was hoping this recording would redeem gobbi. but sadly he is horrible. he can barely hit the F# much less nail it. probably the worst famous baritone to ever have a career. his technique is horrible. even as a baritone you need good high notes, his are just poor attempts to cover up to the note. D- for effort.

  • -10 !!!!!!!

  • figarooooo!

  • Wow! I love this song. It;s hard to find one wihtout some silly parody. I love it, thank you.
