i'm from chadderton, but have lived in surrey for the last 8 years, and i'm moving back up north next year. oldham may not be the prettiest place in the world, but i'd give anything for the warmth and kindness of notherners. people in the south are rude and only look out for themselves, working all hours of the day so their lazy wives don't have to. they say it's colder in the north, but personally i find it much much warmer.
An unfortunate place. Oldham went wrong in the 60's by segregating communities. Years later they tried to rectify this with community cohesion, but unfortunately it was too late. The citizens don't care for the town because the big cats in charge don't care for it - they try to create an image of the quintessential northern working class town, but it's far from it. An awful place which I will never again live.

i'm from germany and i lived in oldham for about a year as i was teaching in blue coat school there. well, it is not the most beautiful place in the world but i liked it. especially the people there were friendly and i never was treated like "the nazi german" or something. sometimes i even miss this city, then i browse the net and end up in a oldham dia show :-)
I live in a set of Council flats in Oldham. people callCouncil flats but we've only ever had one robbery since they were built and that was over 30 years ago. Where can boast that? Kids around here are kids. There's no hanging around the off licence drinking. They play football and kerby etc. I was very pleasantly surprised as I moved from somewhere considered nice (kids were awful and the adults weren't any better) to here. A place is only what you make it.
