I got a vaio a few days ago, it's the 15.5" model. It looks the same but has slight differences. Mine has a textured sort of feel to the cover and the bit below the keyboard. Doesnt have bluray or the 6gb of Ram, but has a 500gb hdd drive. :) really good product, would recommend it to people :)
I want to do 3D Animation and Stop Motion, should I get 6GB or 8GB (60 Dollars difference)? I don't want to spend a ton of my extra money on it because I need to prepare for University.
@SonicGenerations455 to add a desktop background it is quite simple, open the picture that you want in paint, go to the selection where u save your picture and on there shall be a highltight saying set as desktop background. Hope that helps
Do you really think PC World fleeces you? :) I do like your opinion because it does make me laugh. But when i always go to PC World they've always been really good with the deals. Also have you ever used there KnowHow/TheTechGuys Breakdown and Accidental Damage cover. Its amazing. I've broken my laptop atleast 4 times and they've got it back to me within 4 days,If they dont get it back to you within 7 days you can ask to get a store voucher for however much you paid for the laptop n get another!
I bought the same machine back in December of last year. It's just smaller actually. It's 15.5 inches with 500 Gigs of memory and 4 Gigs of ram. Pretty decent machine. It runs pretty fast and is easy to use. Definitely worth the $800 I paid lol.

watching this on the exact laptop you're reviewing - awesome laptop. If you dont mind not being able to pick it up and carry it around, and having it always plugged in (it is powerful, remember), it is one of the better laptops out there (£200 less the 13" MBP), with 2 GB more RAM and an i5, you cant go wrong with this machine. If you're in the UK, this may sound mad, but get it from Marks and Spencers, £750! Amazing Laptop.
hey , i didn t go through all the pages to see if anybody else mention it , but since they don give a recovery disk they put a recovery partition in there , so as soon as u turn on the system , just before it starts windows you can press f10 and the recovery manager will pop up , and u can recover the whole system like the day u bought it or simply recover only the operating system drive in case u made other partitions as well ;) very simple , very useful .. hope it helps .. ;)
Hi, mind telling me if your Vaio overheats when you load a game or run any processor-intensive program?
'Cause I used to own a Vaio FZ, and I had to service it a number of times because it got so hot that the motherboard fried. And when I placed a cup of iced lemon tea next to it, it turned warm in like 5 mins.
I'm thinking of getting a new laptop soon. And was wondering if Vaio is still a good brand to consider, since I've had such a lousy experience with my previous Vaio FZ.

Yeah computers are costing more these days, but you do get more for your money. I think I will wait for Lion to come out on the new Macs b4 I buy one. I can't wait to see what is talked about in the BACK TO MAC expo on the 20th. I wish they would come out with OSX for any computer not just Macs! That would take away from half of windows market! I know what you mean Dave about PC World, I have no idea how PC World are still in business, given the online purchase system and other companies offering better deals. I am actually surprised that you got the case free in the end, PC World have a strict ethos of screw the public at all costs. I owned one Vaio 15 inch (sold out this year) and my fiance has 17 inch AR series (1996) and it's still looking very good and is working flawlessly. Vaio are not only stylish but also very sturdy and well made laptops. I only wish that Sony could make and upgrade to battery life, web cam resolution and speakers. After all these are media laptops. I would like to mention that Sony Vaio has the best looking screen from all other brands. My current lappy, Toshiba has much worst screen quality

for JUST €1000? i've an acer aspire 5750g 2.27ghz core i5, ati 5470, 4gb ram and a 500gb harddrive and it cost me €600, 15.6" 1366 x 768. Sure it doesn't have the large screen or the bluray drive but i don't need them. I'm sure it doesn't have the same build quality but I got WAAAAY better bang for my buck!

i have the previous model of 17 inch vaio the vgn ar 320e and for me it was i pain i had to replace the keyboard 3 times and after that the screen got a white stripe and let me tell you something at least for me i couldn't upgrade from windows home premium i wanted to upgrade to windows ultimate and the webcam driver wouldn't work and a lot of other drivers nether i looked in sony support pages and found out that you cant upgrade from windows home premium to ultimate or any other version
I had a vaio vgn-cr220E (red model) for about 3 years and I never had any problems with it, although sony batteries never last as they are advertised, and the speakers in ever single model I've had my hands on really sucks the performance and display quality is actually really good.
If I ever plan to go back to windows it definitely will be because of a Vaio.
@travacef A 17 inch Macbook Pro does not have a Blu Ray Drive, HDMI Port, eSata port, numeric keypad, ATi Mobility graphics, or removable battery. Also I think this is cheaper than a MacBook.
It had so many hardware failures, GPU, CPU, HDD and then finally the entire motherboard failed so I went to the sony centre where I bought it and demanded my money back, I bought a macbook pro from the same shopping center that that sony center was in, that was september 2009 and its now october 2010 and I have had no problems.
From what I hear, the Vaios are very high quality computers. When I buy a new laptop (which won't be for quite a while), I'm considering either the Sony Vaio Z series or the 13-inch Macbook Pro.
Dave, why didn't you recommend Apple as a best solution to your sister? Maybe entry model iMac (£999.00) if it's a replacement for a desktop machine or 13 - 15inch MacBook Pro? (£999.00 - £1,499.00) Ps "Apple keynote 20th Oct Back to the Mac"
As always.. A LOT of BLOATWARE on a new pc laptop that makes your computer so slow.. I ALWAYS reinstall windows when buying laptops (ex except mac), else you get a ton of shareware applications and many background-services. I hate that.

I know what you mean Dave about PC World, I have no idea how PC World are still in business, given the online purchase system and other companies offering better deals. I am actually surprised that you got the case free in the end, PC World have a strict ethos of screw the public at all costs. All the best mate and I bet your sister is happy that you where on hand to guide her through buying a laptop, she could have ended up with a much lower grade system had she gone to PC World on her own.

I owned one Vaio 15 inch (sold out this year) and my fiance has 17 inch AR series (1996) and it's still looking very good and is working flawlessly. Vaio are not only stylish but also very sturdy and well made laptops. I only wish that Sony could make and upgrade to battery life, web cam resolution and speakers. After all these are media laptops. I would like to mention that Sony Vaio has the best looking screen from all other brands. My current lappy, Toshiba has much worst screen quality

for JUST €1000? i've an acer aspire 5750g 2.27ghz core i5, ati 5470, 4gb ram and a 500gb harddrive and it cost me €600, 15.6" 1366 x 768. Sure it doesn't have the large screen or the bluray drive but i don't need them. I'm sure it doesn't have the same build quality but I got WAAAAY better bang for my buck!

@irishgandalf757 no you didn't. You got an Acer. Thats an epic fail. See you again in 3 months when its broken and you need to buy a new one. Acer is the cheapest crap. Get a Sony or Apple notebook and work with it for years!

i have the previous model of 17 inch vaio the vgn ar 320e and for me it was i pain i had to replace the keyboard 3 times and after that the screen got a white stripe and let me tell you something at least for me i couldn't upgrade from windows home premium i wanted to upgrade to windows ultimate and the webcam driver wouldn't work and a lot of other drivers nether i looked in sony support pages and found out that you cant upgrade from windows home premium to ultimate or any other version

I had a vaio vgn-cr220E (red model) for about 3 years and I never had any problems with it, although sony batteries never last as they are advertised, and the speakers in ever single model I've had my hands on really sucks the performance and display quality is actually really good.
If I ever plan to go back to windows it definitely will be because of a Vaio.

@travacef A 17 inch Macbook Pro does not have a Blu Ray Drive, HDMI Port, eSata port, numeric keypad, ATi Mobility graphics, or removable battery. Also I think this is cheaper than a MacBook.

I had a avio AR back in august 2008 - 2009
It had so many hardware failures, GPU, CPU, HDD and then finally the entire motherboard failed so I went to the sony centre where I bought it and demanded my money back, I bought a macbook pro from the same shopping center that that sony center was in, that was september 2009 and its now october 2010 and I have had no problems.

Absolutely tiny battery.
That offset trackpad ruins it completely for me. I don't care if it's just offset to be center with the QWERTY keyboard. It's just ugly.

From what I hear, the Vaios are very high quality computers. When I buy a new laptop (which won't be for quite a while), I'm considering either the Sony Vaio Z series or the 13-inch Macbook Pro.

As always.. A LOT of BLOATWARE on a new pc laptop that makes your computer so slow.. I ALWAYS reinstall windows when buying laptops (ex except mac), else you get a ton of shareware applications and many background-services. I hate that.
