The opening chords shouldn't be slammed - lift your mallets up. The tempo is a little too slow. I liked the musicality. The rolled chords were held too long. Nice dynamics.
It's much more wise to play it much faster: it is easier then to do the rain part. Your dinamics are quite okay, but you should play louder in the end and some other places. Try to make it exiting, now you're playing it to kind.
It was quite nice by the way, but try to make it better
The first guy where were the dynamics and seriously if you are going to perform this you should have more consistency with your notes. Second guy not bad watch your technique but other than that very nice. like your dynamics but you could have played a little louder
As a marching percussionist first, I can say that you are correct to a certain degree. A consistent technique is required for the members of a drumline, however, there is still no "right" or "wrong" way of playing... For instance, SCV's style of a loose approach and use of the arm would not be accepted at the Crossmen. (They play strictly wrist).
Plus, this is concert percussion. There is no right or wrong technique in concert percussion.
music city mystique uses somewhat of a front fulcrum grip. and legend independent uses the two middle fingers as a grip for mallets. and its more lagatto and we use piston. so many different ways. Not downing MCM's technique at all i love MCM. woo lol
good dynamic ideas, but stick with them. Just because you are going from soft to loud doesn't mean it's a straight line to loud. Shape it nice and round, and make good connections between the rolls. Stuff like that makes your sheet music into a musical idea.
boss a couple of things.... i dont mind that you played it slower.... but if youre going play it slower you need to pay alot more attention to your technique and your notes because ur tech. will be the only leg you'll be able to stand on in front of the judges ..... good luck
yeah im gonna have to really nit pick on both of your techniques. um the purple guy dont just stab the 4 mallet down, its a wrist movement you 3 mallet is dangling in the air.
They both sounded pretty good overall. Loved the dynamics. All i can say is pick harder solos next time. Rain dance, frogs, parody, monograph IV, all good choices. Tapspace is a good site to buy percussion music.
I have to defend the kid though, although it sounds better a tad faster the piece is written for a rediculously slow speed. I played this for my freshman year of hs and yea all they could say was I played it too fast basically
I have to agree with below. I only watched about 30 seconds, and only want you to take this as constructive criticism. Technique, technique, technique. If you are going to go with the Steven's Grip, then make it work bro. Your mallets are flying ALL over the place. When used correctly, Steven's Grip is VERY controlled
I am sure you play marimba for less than half a year.....and if it`s more...... I don`t want to be rude and I won`t say anything bad.....and the tempo is kind of slow too....it should be 120

quit using your arms, and you need to learn piston stroke if you're going to play marimba, downstroking is really poor marimba technique

not necessarily true. There's no right way to play percussion.
