  • why buy a hybrid when you can just have this or the newer one and its probably cheaper too.

  • jermany is the one that sarted the diesel concept, [ it was a german fellow anyhow]] now the the britts on the other hand?? yrs ago um ....... i did have a mercdese 300 turbo about a yr ago it had 237 and some odd thousand mls, that was a neat car i wish i kept that car, before i owned it it was neglected that was the downer on thar one.

  • jermany is the one that sarted the diesel concept, [ it was a german fellow anyhow]] now the the britts on the other hand?? yrs ago um .......

  • VW owns Bugatti too :P

  • I just traded in my 1998 VW Jetta TDI for a 2010 VW Jetta TDI. What a difference in 12 years. I really like the idea that the exhaust is much cleaner now.

  • japanese car would never be better than the germans.the germans ar light years ahead

  • I just purchased a 2010 VW Jetta TDI. This is my third VW and my second TDI. I love the car but VW service is terrible. Even though they offer 3 years free maintainance, I plan on taking my car somewhere else and pay for the service.

  • ey guys i have the 2009 Jetta TDI with the DSG trans. its 16months old i have 48k miles on it and not a bit of a problem i drive from MIA to Manhattan with 2 fillups and the car is a real car with a huge trunk and power .. for all those prius fans ..please ! toyo.... WHat? lol german cars rule i moved to the us 2 yrs ago from stuttgart germany and lets be real they make the best cars in the world: Porsche,Mercedes Benz, VW ,Audi, BMW !RR ,Bentley,Lambo all with german technology! i rest my case

  • last time I checked VW isn't recalling most of their vehicles on the road right now... Toyota is? What? VW also has 3 years of free maintenance... Does Toyota have that? No?

What does that do to ownership costs? You do the math.

  • Yeah but VW dealer service is pure garbage. Most of the time, they use the wrong oil in the new TDI. They do this on purpose because either they don't know about it or they are trying to saving money on the expensive oil. Toyota blows VW away in dealership service.

  • @sinistermarshall Completely agreed!

  • #1 car manufacturer in the world. Suck on that Toyota

  • German engineering is unparalleled. No one can come close.

  • @Loveitincali

Japanese could give the Germans a run for their money.

  • Good God! Liked the German dude, couldn't stand the smug Californian interviewer. You might want to consider cutting out the 90% of superfluous chit chat...

  • IMO, German car technology is a blessing, compared to american. I tried many of both kinds and its what i have experienced.

  • Would any fellow Americans mind to bring in zillions of natives (as displaced refugee) from Indonesia, Maldives, Philippines, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka,(and some) , as their homes and growth are being affected by pollution (such as global warming, greenhouse, climate change etc), created by industrialized countries like U.S.A., India & China. If you say "NO", then you better do something to make our climate more eco-friendly . Go GREEN. Thanks.

  • ..Sorry, to make unrelated (but serious) comment. Yes, about this VW Jetta SW TDI...think I'm gonna get it. Normally I stick with Nissan.

  • This video (among other things and other videos) with Norbert at the wheel helped me make a decisions to purchase a Jetta TDI today. Norbert's belief in the product shows, VW is fortunate to have him.

  • The music sounds like the soundtrack from a porno movie. Weird, no?

  • more like a spaghetti western from the 70's or Top GUN? Hahahaha.

  • Get a sound guy who can learn how to turn the music down! And get that man a haircut!

  • actually i think the music is just fine

  • fuck i thought that was a hat your man was wearing! its his hair!!

  • To all you envious Europeans, if your government's didn't tax the shit out of your fuel you too could have all the nice trucks and SUV's we have here. Diesel here is about $2.50 per U.S. gallon. I am interested in the Jetta TDI simply because its a good all around value for the amount of car you are getting. I can live with only making one fuel stop a month.

  • quit being an ass.

  • I have to laugh.............America is now catching up with Europe. The Jetta 2.0 TDI has been available in Europe since 2006. I had one. Great car.

  • Ours has to conform to higher emissions regulations.. thank you california

  • yea.. and it's mk5 a golf with a boot, i think we could date it back to 2004/2005, and actually it should be replaced with a new model based on mk6 any day now... so this looks a bit strange

  • Informative vid to spite the poor selection of music laid in by the vid's producer.

In 2,ooo I purchased new a TDI Jet, only 167,ooo miles on it so far, AoK.

Also, I tug a 5oo pound trailer with my Jet, once by mistake I put 2,2oo pounds of mason sand on it (+ the trailer). The Jet pulled it OK n the breaks were also adequate. BUT hope to never make this mistake again.

I converted my Jet into a dual fuel hybird, so far the max on fuel economy was 1oo MPG figured on only purchased fuel

  • Its Funny To Hear An American say Diesel,

they say it as if it; De - Cell,

    JUST LISTEN!!!!!

  • well english people say diesel like....de-zull

  • de-cell?

    i hear de-sul

  • The 2009 is not yet rated by JD Power. The older models kind of suck in terms of reliability but according to consumer reports the newer vw's are a lot better than vw's of old.

  • this car is slow, ive been searching it for the longest time, it says the acceleration from 0-100kph is over 11 seconds, thats the worst thing in the world, but unfortunatly my dads buying me this cuz its good on gas LOL

  • where did you hear that it's 11 secs?

volkswagen claims 8.2 secs... and most tests I've seen are about that.

I've driven one, and it's pretty quick, like most diesels it's slow from 500-1300 rpm, but it's fast after that.

  • hey sunny how is it now??? do you like it?? any problems?? i'm wanting one so bad hopefully the fuel economy is what it really is and the car wont be expensive to fix

  • when you buy a new tdi, this video audio track will play each time you drive the car

  • it sounds so gay so 80s and white like rich people can buy and not middle age or even poor BLAH gay 80s

  • Drove a 2009 Jetta SportWagen TDI with 6speed DSG the other day at the dealership. Only thing I did not like was that traffic was to heavy to 'PUT THE HAMMER DOWN!' I currently own a 2002 Jetta TDI,so I can TALK! The 2009 TDI is a TOTALLY different car! My 2002 is 90HP and 155ft/lbs. The 2009 TDI is 140HP and 236ft/lbs! Some of the comments on this thread show GROSS IGNORANCE of Americans! The Europeans must think you guys are a BUNCH of RETARDS.

    Regards, From CANADA

  • Trust me, Jack, we do think they are retards. What I do not get is the sense of awe surrounding this car. It is nothing special here in Europe, just a normal diesel vehicle. Been around a long time now, certainly not new. Definately not a 2009.

  • Diesel in Europe is completely different than diesel in North America. "Clean" Diesel in North America has only recently reached fueling stations. If you brought a German tdi to the U.S in 2000 it would die quickly from indigestion.

  • yes!!! thats tru, They bring the same diesel to my country, I hate that, I would like to have a Focus Diesel, but I cant.

  • why do some Europeans think they're better than everyone else? Congrats! you make better cars. but it doesn't add inches to your dick.

  • No, but it helps to save the planet!!!

Something America, in her quest of GREED and DOMINATION, has yet to understand!

  • 1) Dude, stop the h8ing.

    2) The Americas comprise at least three continents.

    3) US car makers have to change thier management and vision. The workers in US car plants will build the cars to the best of their abilities, but the car maker's management need to learn to build the cars the WORLD wants to buy. And I think they have tried to do a better job since the 1970s, it's now time to change people's perceptions of US carmakers.

  • Dude, when we talk of America, we refer to the big monster called the USA. But thanks for the Geography lesson. I'll remember the next time I go America bashing!

You can only change perceptions by presenting a worthy alternative. I am afraid the USA has a long way to go to show us they are changing! And does Europe really need the American products?

    Short answer...NO!

  • Why wouldn't Europe want US or American products and why would the US need to change?

You do realize that VW is soon to be building many VW products in the US and that Toyota has been doing so for many years. In addition, you do know that Ford has building cars in Europe for many years as well?

  • To 2) North America, South America. What's the third?

  • Hopefully the 09 is better than my 06 TDI; I'm not a fan won't buy another one. The car is uncomfortable and rides horrible. My diesel engine is really loud.

  • who cares if its loud.....that the point, im not saying put a fart can on it, but why the hell would you not want to hear the engine.

    GET A GRIP

  • I would not say the car sucks, why would you say that! Is yours a manual transmission?

  • That's a major issue for me; I should have got the standard. The DSG transmission does not work well in the cold, it keeps bucking until it warms up. I happened to get a diesel (after brake in) that is loud. It's the loudest VW I've heard.

  • wow thats odd i had one in the shop the other day with 60k on it already and it sounds just as quiet as a new one. the dsg does take some getting used to even when its not cold out though I dont care for the 6 speed though it seems easy to stall.

  • Today, i drove the new Jetta 2009 TDI and man, it was awesome. In comparison to the Toyota Camry Hybrid & the Prius. This is awesome, as fare is space goes the toyota, but as far as being fun, acceleration and control, the VW takes the cake. It's a true drivers car which also gives you awesome millage and makes you feel in control of the automobile vs the hybrids.

  • HA ... awesome mileage yeah right. I have a 2003 Jetta TDI and easily get 45, city. The new POS tdi only gets 35 highway! come on. i could care less about emissions.

  • they seriously need to turn down the dang music!

  • Glass eye daddy really can talk ! Hey

  • ...what i hate is this wonderful car looks like and its compare w/the Toyota Corolla. Same size. Couldnt they make it a bit wider?

  • the breakthrough was 15-20 years ago you imbecile... when the Europeans made the first diesel... we had in 1993 the wv passat TDI, we had it in 1996, we had it in 2000.. we had it in 2004, 06 , 08.. you didn't.. you had all those yeas the stupid trucks and SUV that do 10 MPG... we had powerful diesels that do 45 MPG.... think about the conclusion for yourself...

  • diesel engines are only 20 years old, thats news to me.

  • good turbodiesel engines that is....

  • for lots of years stupid americans have ignored diesel and made rubbish MPG petrol burining cars. Diesel have been present in europe for 20 years and they have proved to be well. in 2008 america turns it's head to diesel... HAHAHAHAH... no fuel for you to burn after in 2008 in your fords, chevrollets and mustangs... is it because hte oil crisis???? HAHA

  • ...ok?

  • I want to buy now a TDI from VW and also this video soundtrack... then I will pass over this CD sountrack with the new car.

  • thanks this made me lol

  • europeans don't think that .all the word¡¡¡¡

  • I've driven the 09 Jetta TDI and was impressed. Definately a car I'd buy. I'm really down on the porn background music and the reporter's stupid questions. No wonder the Europeans think we're idiots. Not to mention, he looks like Captain Kangaroo.

  • I lol'd

  • Thought this was the Auto Channel not the MISUC Channel......SHUT OFF THE MUSIC so we can hear about the car. I kist bought my 2009 TDI 300 miles ago I love it.

  • Come on guys what is with the annoying background music. I can't pay attention to the damn review.

  • Damn!!! Good information but halfway I have to get Tylenol. Music is way too loud. Please redo your review w/o music.

  • I think I am going to buy a 2009 TDI

  • ...u go girl. Get it in red.

  • you would love to have my 2002 hyundai santa fe CRDI diesel engine. it makes 6.2L/km ;)

  • The music is WAY TOO LOUD

  • I have a 1999 Jetta TDI over 40 mpg. It is like driving a regular car. Actually this has been the best car I ever owned, fun wise. I have a 148,000 on the car. And it will go a hundred more. I think I am going to buy a 2009.

  • You can go 400,000 more.

My friend has a 1996 Jetta diesel with 520,000 miles.. still running.

  • @Fictlifi That is so freakin' amazing:)

  • He made an incorrect remark at 55 seconds about Jetta's being powered in the early 80's by regular gasoline. I remember Jetta diesels from that period of time.

  • Mark Fulmer is such a tool.

  • I hate this music.

  • omg good review and all.. but holy shit! turn the fucking 80's never-ending guitar solo off its DRIVING ME NUTS =|

  • famed reliability? Yeah right....lol

  • Mercedes Benz is road testing a 2010 C300 Bluetech Hybrid. This model will include EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation), seven speed tip-tronic transmission, and the benefits of a small diesel engine within a hybrid system which is far more efficient then petrol hybrids. The chemical factory the rep mentioned is actually the miniaturized scrubber developed by Mercedes called the Bluetech, first marketed in the 2007 E320 Bluetech.

  • Diesel is COOL

  • yeah diesel power!!!! more fuel efficient than those damn gasoline hybrids!!!

  • Yeah Damn Right, and can you imagine how much more fuel efficient a Diesel Hybrid would be!!

For a good number of us the Ideal Car would be a Jetta like Diesel in a Boxer type setup inside the Subaru Imreza. Man my Jaw is starting to drop just thing how nice this Car would be.

  • yeah diesel electric hybrids would be nice!! check out audi`s diesel, thay HAD made diesel sports cars!! just dont know if there are boxer configurations though. i wish i had money to buy one of those jetta tdi.... but my tdi toyota will do for now. cheers mate!

  • yup old diesels spewed a lot of nox. newer diesels have cleaner exhausts than some gasoline engines do. did they say about maintenance costs? after 5 years you need to change the battery which is pretty expensive. and old diesel engines could burn a wide range of fuel! yooohoooooo!!!!! diesel power!!! i have faith in my old 1kz-te engine

  • shigotoninja:

"old diesels spewed a lot of nox. newer diesels have cleaner exhausts than some gasoline engines"

2009 Euro emission standards are less strict for diesels. Ever wondered why?

"did they say about maintenance costs? after 5 years you need to change the battery"

Bollocks. Hybrid Synergy Drive battery has 10-year/150k miles warranty in California. Toyota expects 15-year lifetime. Battery works as an energy buffer, is never discharged but kept at 45% charge hence long life

  • whow! you hath proved my opinion wrong, i humble before thee!!! but inspite of that.... DIESEL power!!!!! wooooohooooooo!!!!

  • nice channel comments.....

    theannoyingdogpoo

  • They need to bring the Phaeton back.

  • Too true, unfortunately people are prejudice to brand name image and not actual quality Hyndai is experiencing that right now as Both car makers are making their best cars to date

  • They need to just come up with another brand name, Toyota has Lexus, Nissan has Infiniti, ect. Hyundai just will not be looked at like a luxury brand.

  • I agree.

  • i can agree but VW is owned by Audi
