  • good video

  • as someone else mentioned in their post, stay away from the first that comes out. about the first two shot glasses. you will know just keep smelling it until it dosen't smell like fingernail polish remover.

  • this is how i was able to drink in college for cheap but i used a stainless steel presure cooker , flower and water for all the steals, and a copper pipe. then when your done if u wanna have fun put 1 gram weed per 1 ounce alcohole let it sit a cuple days if u mix that with 7 up it will turn it white definitly a way to have a bit of fun

  • WHERE DID YOU GET YOUR POT ?

  • 2 things... I recommend that you not collect in a plastic collector. also when you are collecting you should collect in small vessels that are the same size. as each vessel is filled put it aside and cover with a cloth or paper towel. So when the run is over you should have 10-20 bottles. wait 24 hours and smell and taste and dilute and taste each one individually. i think you will see that ever drop that comes out of the still has a different taste.

  • @kingearwig I agree! This thing is such a pain in the ass to begin with to set up. Maybe I will do what you say next summer.

  • What's the song at 3:38 man? Thanks!

  • @sqhschief it's "A New Level" from Pantera

  • Thanks, the start of it is awesome, then it just goes all to hell lol.

  • @nickpiperata Of Confidence, And POWER!!

  • here' sa tip: add a box of baking soda to your wine before distilling. It neutralizes Acetic acid. When heated there is a reaction between ethanol and acetic acid to form ethyl acetate. The compound ethyl acetate smells like acetone or nail polish remover, and its probably bad for you too. you can separate it with a good still but its better not to make more of it while you're distilling.

  • Thank you so much. I know exactly what you are talking about. I have gotten that effect. I'm gonna try that.

  • its a reflux still if its built right and temp is at 172 then theres no reason to distill more then once its pot stills that u distill more then once because there not as effiant and shine from a reflux taste clean and pure where shine from a pot still still has flavors and if you get a good pot still shine it just taste great. rip popcorn a true moonshiner

  • Thank you also. This still works so well that if I were to reheat I think I would blow the house up.

  • dude that is awsome. I ahve always wanted to try making my own shine. I have made wine and beer before well more beer then anything. How much did all the parts end up costing you to make the still??

  • The milk can was a gift from my uncle who used to milk cows. the rest was maybe a hundred bucks all together.

  • stay away from any lead and i would, if i was to make any "white lightning" not even use a stainless stell pot, copper everything, and cant stress enough to clean everyhting with at least a water/white vinigar solution, be careful with your solder also, NO LEAD!! but you seem to be on the right track, if you see a red flame, dont drink it!!! temp is crucial!! you dont want methanol!!! throw out your first bit when runnin it, and then let then good stuff keep comin!! good luck!

  • Thank you. Haven't been making lately. soon though.........soooooon! ha ha ha.

  • stills cant create methanol, that is a myth. people have died from drinking moonshine that contained methanol because crooks bought alcohol from the hardware store and sold it in jars to unsuspecting suckers. you are quite safe distilling any grape wine, you will only get ethanol. flame tests are not reliable anyway.

  • and what are your credentials?

  • Howdy,

Have you tried running this more than once, or only single run? I have read that 3rd and 4th run booze is the best, and that between runs the still should be meticulously cleaned. It certainly seemed that you were producing quite well, and and that subsequent runs probably wouldn't take as long. Just remembering how you said it was toxic, and subsequent runs would improve the quality. Anyhow, nice still and video.

  • Thanks A Lot! No, it's only one run because I didn't want to blow myself up. If I get enough gut's later, maybe I will run it a few times. As for now, I was getting a great product only in one try.

  • Very informative, thank you :)

    congratulations on the homemade booze!

I have a 2 stroke motorized bicycle that runs almost 200 mpg and can run on alcohol and veggie oil, so i can use methanol to drive and ethanol to drink... So this is rather useful for me.

I was wondering if there are any key details to the distillery i should be aware of, such as max & min temperature range, amount of copper tubing that is necessary, how far apart the ethanol and methanol should be from one another?

  • I have a still making video for sale step by step for $12.00

  • You could have just used vinyl tubing to your liebig condenser instead of copper and saved you some money. Was that bottle you collected in a plastic one? Did you throw out the foreshots/ That is the first part that comes off the still, that is where all the methanol is along with some other nasties that will affect the taste as well as give a good headache if you drink to much of the stuff. Lets just say I know a thing or two about what your doing just not enough room to post it all.

  • Could use all the help I can get. Yes, I did throw away about 3 cups at first. I collected in a plastic bottle, but I'm not going to do that anymore. As for the copper, I got a lot for free and I collected some over the summer.

    Thanks for the comment!! Nick
